When the leader of a rogue fundamentalist religious state makes more sense than POTUS, you have to ask just how dopey the average American is ?

I got sucked back in, a friend made me watch the news when I went for covfeve there this morning. So in amongst all the other horrible headlines, I found this latest from Heather Delaney Reese yesterday, and I honestly don’t know how she can still have hope for America.
https://heatherdelaneyreese.substack.com/p/nobody-wants-to-live-in-trumps-fake

Nobody wants to live in Trump's fake paradise anymore

At 10:26 this morning, while House Republican leaders stood at a press conference celebrating the most significant bipartisan achievement of this Congress, a housing bill that had passed the Senate 85 to 5 and the House 358 to 32, the President of the...

Just posted this by mistake on the Starmer thread so it won't be news to some of you... 😎

BREAKING: The Supreme Court rules 6-3 in favor of the Trump admin on Temporary Protected Status, blocking the lawsuit on jurisdictional grounds, allowing DHS to strip over 350,000 people of legal status even though they utterly failed to follow the required legal procedures.
^^
The Supreme Court ALSO gives Trump another pass on racism, declaring that his horrific and bigoted comments against Haitians are actually not evidence of racism and that the plaintiffs cannot show evidence of racial bias, essentially plugging their ears and letting Trump spew filth as policy.
^^
The upshot of this decision is that once it goes into effect, hundreds of thousands of people who have been living and working legally in the United States, some for many years, and many who entered completely legally, will lose their work permits and deportation protections.
^^
Justice Kagan, in dissent, emphasizes that Alito and the majority are too cowardly to even print Donald Trump's bigoted statements in their opinion, only giving them summaries which drastically downplay their severity.
^^
She is right. The majority is endorsing racism.
^^
Trump once again benefits from a Supreme Court that is too cowardly to call the president a racist. Alito won't even print a single one of his statements (because he knows how bad they are) and instead tries to frame them as not "overtly racial," which, to be blunt, is BS.

This Supreme Court supreme-ing as only they can.

The Supreme Court blocked thousands of lawsuits over the weedkiller Roundup, ruling the manufacturer can't be sued for failing to warn the popular product might cause cancer.

After that latest racist SCOTUS ruling, I am still trying to get my head round how evil this administration is and how, much worse, a majority of the US electorate are still happy to enable this behaviour and actually continue to support Trump. It’s bewildering, not to say flabbergasting, and horrific.

I really can't see why so many people seem to think that this is somehow a bug.

It was baked into "the Republic" way back when. The moment there had to be an accord between the slave states and non slave states to avoid taxes.

I hesitate to join with the religious overtones of the concept of original sin. However if anyone wanted to try to persuade me to that point of view, then they could not find a better paradigm.

I wonder "what if ?" had Lincoln lived.

Scrotus' approval rating in is the toilet at 34-37%, so most of us aren't 'happy to enable this behaviour'.

There is no 'direct mechanism' for US citizens to remove a POTUS. That can only happen in Congress and right now the GOP controls both Houses. We can scream and yell, we can write letters/emails or make phone calls until we're blue in the face (and many of us are) but until the majority changes in the Senate and/or the House, all we can do is wait (and pray) for the midterms. Voters who live in blue states have no power to remove a legislator in a red state and there are not enough 'blue'/liberal people in red states to mount a successful recall campaign on their elected representatives in Congress, not to mention that recalls are a lengthy process.

Is there a direct mechanism for voters in the UK to remove a PM? How would they go about removing an MP if they lived in a majority 'other party' district, ie how would the constituents go about getting rid of a Reform MP if they lived in a majority Reform area? In reality, what could the UK voters do to remove Farage or his ilk as PM if his party got the popular vote?

Personally, until recent events, I have been living in the perpetual (but clearly misguided) hope that people will not revert to the behaviour of their ancestors of 250 and 160 years ago (let alone in living memory (Roe v Wade, for example)) and that they will learn to be better people, move on, and treat all people with respect, and equally, whether it be in relation to the colour of their skin or how much money they’re worth. That is why I am so horrified. I wouldn’t call it a “bug”, I am disgusted with human nature and history not giving lasting lessons to those who should be educated enough to know better.

SerendipityJane · 25/06/2026 18:21

You do realise how pathetic that sounds when you literally fought a war to remove a King ?

A war whose 250th anniversary you are inflicting on the rest of the world without a shred of self awareness ?

E2A: And that second amendment ? The one SCOTUS have just reaffirmed ?

SerendipityJane · 25/06/2026 18:23

You said anything about "reverting" ? I submit this has been there all along. Since before 1776, in fact.

It really never was a joke that a lot of people fucked off to the colonies from Britain because they couldn't stomach the (relatively) liberal nature the nation had to develop after the civil war.

walllaw · 25/06/2026 19:42

Apparently the terrible TPS decision is going to cripple care homes and medical care, particularly home care, in large areas of Florida, New York State and Ohio.

In addition to being cruel and inhumane, these people are stupid.

Trump is a socialist ain't he ?

A few days ago he is on about commanding private oil companies to reduce prices, and yesterday another EO, with this order:

Therefore, it is the policy of the United States to promote continued advances in precision agriculture technologies; significantly increase Federal investment in regenerative agriculture practices, research, and education; and spur private-sector innovation in farm modernization by reducing red tape and strengthening public-private partnerships. These actions empower American farmers and ranchers with the additional mechanisms to ensure a healthy, abundant, and affordable food supply for the American people.

And this :

..... EPA Office of Pesticide Programs, shall issue a grand prize challenge from the National Institutes of Health for researchers to identify creative solutions for evaluating the exposure, diagnosis, and treatments of cumulative chemical exposures on individual health.

This :

"The Secretary of Agriculture shall maximize the funding of ...."

Basically, Trump is ordering the feds to fund big agriculture, and using Government to fund "alternate" ways to evaluate danger to humans.

The EO is linked below, but where is "the party of small government"

Advancing Regenerative Agriculture and Strengthening American Farm Resilience – The White House

Remember, he has already done EOs that help Bayer, maker of roundup.

Advancing Regenerative Agriculture and Strengthening American Farm Resilience

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered: Section 1.  Purpose and

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2026/06/advancing-regenerative-agriculture-and-strengthening-american-farm-resilience/

RedTagAlan · 26/06/2026 06:07

He is back on the grass again.

Talking to farmers in the Rose Garden re the above EO.

"We just, uh, developed it really. Uh, this used to be grass and it was unusable."

"It's an incredible place and this used to be grass. Beautiful grass, but it was useless. You couldn't stand. It was always wet. You know, this used to be a wetland and the grass was wet. If it rained seven days before, the grass was soaking wet."

"And we'd have reporters there. Female reporters would be holding their shoes like this, destroyed, ruined, men too. So, we finally, after about 150 years, we decided to do something about it, and we put a beautiful stone that matches the White House and people are loving this whole experience. We never had experience like this."

He also rambles about eggs, and moves onto the Reflecting pool :

We caught some people, uh, vandalizing our beautiful reflecting pool. We have the reflecting pool. They took a, uh, cutter, a, uh, box cutter or something very sharp. Uh, can you imagine? What, where did these people come up with this? And, uh, they threw a little fertilizer in the water, which is not good.

Ahh, he connects fertilizer pollution to water quality.

Fertilizer doesn't go well with water. Clear, beautiful water, it doesn't work well.

And he gives a lesson on spelling ?

Dumocrats, I change and then it's dumb. I use it, I will o- -- probably always until they become reasonable. I'll use a U instead of an E. It's very simple. Most people don't know there's a B in dumb, so it's a very simple change. I take out the E and I put in the U and they're Dumocrats because their policies are so dumb.

And with "Most people don't know there's a B in dumb,", I will leave it there.

Read it and weep.

I watched it. Good game. Turkey got the winner in the last seconds. Stonker.

The vid stream on the Ipad was pretty good. It only froze a couple of times. Other games I have watched have been near unwatchable.

However, a friend in the same instant chat group as I am in is in ozz. And his stream just froze in the first half so he gave up. His stream has been great, but now it's not.

We reckon FIFA. Punishing ozzieland for their chants.
