Today's tantrum. (Well, one of them)

However..,
This will become law without his signature, because Congress is not adjourning. More here:

^^
2. Merits aside, this is a very rare bipartisan action. Voters like bipartisanship. By refusing to tout it, Trump once again punches himself in the nuts.

THE SAVE AMERICA ACT.

Wot's that then ?

Oh. It's about elections. That thing about needing an NRA membership card to prove you are American.

Belle mentioned this. Even the SAVE bills sponsor has given up in it. The maths don't stack up.

We can't be far from Trump declaring that just because more people don't like something ()or like something) doesn't mean the majority don't. Deliberately appealing to people who struggle to realise that 100% is literally the whole is a well tried tactic of his ilk. Remember the tariffs ?

He's still whining and posting shit about the pool of doom.

July 4th is just 10 days away and DC looks like an half-finished out of town development where the builders went bust... oh wait!...

DD recommended it to DH and I ages ago but we managed to miss it at the flicks.
Just seen that we can stream it on tv now, so planning on watching it at the weekend!

I have not only seen The Princess Bride several times, I have also seen parts of it in jerky slow motion, and on one very fine occasion backwards for some of the scenes (the clifftop duel in particular).

How about the original, short, Wizard of Speed and Time? not long, and I still find it entertaining forty years on. (The YouTube quality isn't the best, unfortunately.)

I once met Jittlov in a lift in Glasgow and couldn't think of a damn thing to say. I hadn't yet had breakfast, and I had the dumbs.

My excuse for this post is that Trump is very, very depressing, and the Wizard is not.

Edited

I have also seen that one several times. A digression, but my firstborn looked disconcertingly like Wallace Shawn for a day or two from birth. Thankfully, it was a short lived phase.

he's such a dumb shit.

If it's not signed nor vetoed in 10 days (excluding Sunday) it becomes law.

AcrossthePond55 · 24/06/2026 17:26

Forrest Gump is pure mid-century Americana. One of my favourite movies. But if you aren't American or an 'America-phile', or of 'a certain age' a lot of the things that occur will sort of pass by you. But even if you don't 'get it' all it's still worth a watch. But have tissues.

I've had that happen with UK movies and shows. I'll know a certain person mentioned or a comment, event, or location has more significance than just its place in the show.

pointythings · 24/06/2026 18:12

One of my very few claims to fame is that I knew the guy who choreographed the fencing in The Princess Bride (he also did many many others) because he was associated with a club where I used to go to compete and was friends with my best friend's DH.

(My other claim to fame is also fencing related - Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden once refereed a pool I was in. He was excellent.)

We might have friends in common, because I knew someone who knew the person who choreographed that fencing. Small world!

Thank you for the new thread, @Spandauer. After Keir Starmer’s shocking (to me) resignation, I am not taking any politics seriously any more, as it hurts too much, so here is my Trump-news-related contribution for today.

Well, goody good for her. Wonder who she'll support now? It's not going to be the Democrats, that's for sure.

I guess Fucker, erm, Tucker Carlson is saying the same thing. So goody good for him.

They can start a new party together

The Bulwark folks have been predicting that for a loooong time. They think Tucker is playing out how to rehab JD Vance with the America Firsters

Errolwasahero · 24/06/2026 22:53

I never watched Forest Gump either; but I did think at the time that it was a rehash of ‘Being There’ with Peter Sellers (I didn’t see it at the time it came out, but many years after, on the telly!). Anyone know if I was right? That was a Most Excellent film. And I have watched the Bill and Ted movies. 😎

Everyone seems to know/have met Bruce Dickinson! DH “handled” an aircraft that BD flew into RAF Brize Norton years ago. Once they’d unloaded the plane he got his obligatory photo with him in the cockpit!

Terrible quakes in VZ. When I saw the news, I wondered how The Don would react. Here is his truth.

"Thursday, June 25, 20263:45 AM Truth Social

The two major earthquakes that just hit the great people of Venezuela are both massive in scale and have left a devastating number of deaths. The U.S.A. stands ready, willing, and able to help! I have instructed all agencies of our government to get ready to move quickly. We will be there for our new and great friends. Early reports are not good!!! President DJT"

I assume that means FEMA, or the military will be sent.

Hey, it's good that nations help each other with this stuff. But I wonder how this will down with MAGA.

walllaw · 25/06/2026 10:53

He has the communication skills of a toddler. You can almost see the thickening of his brain through his words.

He's been known to hang around backstage at Jethro Tull gigs - which is where I (briefly) saw him in 1983 at the Hammersmith Odeon.
