Forrest Gump is pure mid-century Americana. One of my favourite movies. But if you aren't American or an 'America-phile', or of 'a certain age' a lot of the things that occur will sort of pass by you. But even if you don't 'get it' all it's still worth a watch. But have tissues.

I've had that happen with UK movies and shows. I'll know a certain person mentioned or a comment, event, or location has more significance than just its place in the show.

One of my very few claims to fame is that I knew the guy who choreographed the fencing in The Princess Bride (he also did many many others) because he was associated with a club where I used to go to compete and was friends with my best friend's DH.

(My other claim to fame is also fencing related - Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden once refereed a pool I was in. He was excellent.)

We might have friends in common, because I knew someone who knew the person who choreographed that fencing. Small world!

My Mother used to refer to that sort of behaviour as "I'm going home and I'M TAKING THE FOOTBALL"
