He has being going on about that 'B' for weeks now.

Dumb is a understatement for Vance

JD Vance: "I think Nixon's historical legacy is enjoying a bit of a renaissance, and deservedly so. I joked that if Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12 hours news story. The idea that it took down a presidency is crazy."

The idea that a cheating immoral act took down a president is crazy? I can see where he's coming from - cheating immoral acts have become the presidential norm.

In hindsight, yes it is crazy that Watergate ended a presidency when you consider what Trump has got away with. Yes, I'm looking at you Mitch McConnell you coward

"most people don't know" is Trump code for "this is something I learned last week"

Well, he's still POTUS, so the joke is on the Americans.

No country should have allies. Or enemies.

Just interests.

To be fair, it's the one bit of Realpolitik Trump seems to get. It's a shame his teachers forgot.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/06/2026 12:21

And a shame he has no idea where his country's interests lie.

And a shame he has no idea where his country's interests lie.

I think the reverse is true.

Donald Trump believes the US' only interest should be one Donald J Trump.

The American People: Tell me, POTUS: Do you have someone special in your life?
POTUS: Well, yes, as a matter of fact, I do.
The American People: Who?
POTUS: Me.
The American People: No, I mean someone you love, cherish and want to keep safe from all the horror and the hurt.
POTUS: Erm… Still me, really.

There used to be an American children's tv show called Shari Lewis & Lamb Chop. She was an extremely talented puppeteer and ventriloquist. For some reason, we had an old video of one episode and (as very serious parents of young children) it was the only thing we let them watch for years. Near the end one of the puppets is lamenting something and says, I'm d-u-m, dumb, and Lamb Chop says, no, you're d-u-m-B. I will never not think of that when Rump does his dum o crat riff.

It was also where our children learned, this is the song that never ends, it goes on and on my friends (to be repeated until your parents are begging you to watch something violent and unsuitable) 😂

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/06/2026 13:10

SJ, As I said, he has no idea where HIS COUNTRY'S interests lie, as opposed to his own.

The Senate has advanced a War Powers Resolution aimed at preventing President Trump from escalating military action in Iran, reflecting growing bipartisan opposition to the conflict. This resolution seeks to limit the president's authority and requires congressional approval for any further military engagement

Well, well, little fires everywhere.

Yeah, that got reversed

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/06/2026 15:18

Did you expect it not to be?

RedTagAlan · 26/06/2026 15:37

SerendipityJane · 26/06/2026 15:15

Yeah, that got reversed

John Fetterman is a strange one. He was a progressive. He had a stroke and the repubs wanted him removed. But he recovered from his stroke and has solidly voted with the repubs ever since.

And he is not due to face election till 2028.

I really can't see why so many people seem to think that this is somehow a bug.

It was baked into "the Republic" way back when. The moment there had to be an accord between the slave states and non slave states to avoid taxes.

I hesitate to join with the religious overtones of the concept of original sin. However if anyone wanted to try to persuade me to that point of view, then they could not find a better paradigm.

I wonder "what if ?" had Lincoln lived.

Would you mind expanding a bit on that?

Or point me to some reading?

Thank you @SerendipityJane

It's a well worn theory, been around since (checks notes) 1776.

If you start asking your AI agent of choice to

supply some pointers to research the idea that the US republic was "born in sin" because it not only accepted, but enshrined slavery (with slaves being 3/5ths of a human being to ensure the South could not be outvoted)

Love Lambchop.

But why oh why did you mention The Song that Never Ends?!?!?!?!?!? I caught that ear worm 40 years ago when DS1 loved Shari Lewis and finally got rid of it about 30 years ago when DS2 'outgrew' her.

And now it's baaaaacccckkkk!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I'm going to need to go to the mall and stand close to a stranger and sing it just loud enough for them to catch it from me. That's how you get rid of an ear worm you know. 😈🎶

I'm not and have never been a Fetterman fan, and he's made some awful votes, but to be fair, he votes the Dem party line about 90% of the time.

Ahh. TBH, I only notice his name when he votes with the repubs.

Happy to be corrected.

Bolton has plead guilty to mishandling classified security information as part of notes he compiled for a book.
