I haven't.

There's always one, isn't there.

:-)

"Because I always get it done!" Ahem.....and the pool??

Trump hits out at US Senate after war vote. Bombastic as usual.

Yeah. He is accusing them of providing aid and comfort to the enemy, less than a week after he himself stood at the G7, telling the world that Iran needs ballistic missiles, and that they need money to rebuild their air defences.

placemats · 24/06/2026 12:54

40 plus family and friends haven't either.

We're not alone.

But your 40 plus family and friends are not posting here are they :-)

But ok, my hands are up. There is more than one. That will teach me.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 24/06/2026 13:48

I've never seen Forrest Gump. Or Star Wars (any of them). Or Harry Potter (any of them). Or Lord of the Rings (any of them). Or Titanic. Or ET.
I have read LOTR, long before it was filmed. And the Hobbit. Um...
Ok. Bit of a derail. Not a philistine, I promise, I just like my culture off the beaten track. 😂

BruceAndNosh · 24/06/2026 14:00

Yep. Totally normal

Just for future reference, for the sake of thread flow, can you say if you have seen Life of Brian, Holy Grail, and Airplane ?

Cos if not. I might need to change some of my references. We are after all a sort of anacrho-syndicalist commune, and given that we need a 2 thirds majority when we vote on external affairs...

Have you seen all Mission Impossible films/movies.

If it is a film, it's likely I haven't seen it, because I just don't have all that much interest in them, but it doesn't bother me: if I really need to know what a reference is implying I can look it up. That generally gives me a rough idea.

I have seen some, not all.

The two Python movies I can't actually remember, having seen so many clips and chunks over the years. But I suspect not. Airplane no. Carry on with the references though it's all good!
I'm 71 and only really got into movies much in the last 20 years, firmly a bookworm until then. Childhood watched movies on TV so randomly very very very familiar with The Sound of Music and Oklahoma. 🐎

pointythings · 24/06/2026 15:08

I have seen all three of those, but not the Mission: Impossible films. Should we also poll on The Princess Bride?

placemats · 24/06/2026 15:28

No. Indiana Jones. Or Shrek.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 24/06/2026 15:30

Maybe we need a spinoff thread. Anti- Trumpers cultural discussion thread. 🤓

placemats · 24/06/2026 15:33

As Trump has zero interest in culture, perhaps this thread will be an enlightenment.

I have not only seen The Princess Bride several times, I have also seen parts of it in jerky slow motion, and on one very fine occasion backwards for some of the scenes (the clifftop duel in particular).

How about the original, short, Wizard of Speed and Time? not long, and I still find it entertaining forty years on. (The YouTube quality isn't the best, unfortunately.)

I once met Jittlov in a lift in Glasgow and couldn't think of a damn thing to say. I hadn't yet had breakfast, and I had the dumbs.

My excuse for this post is that Trump is very, very depressing, and the Wizard is not.

Spandauer · 24/06/2026 16:30

Today's tantrum. (Well, one of them)

However..,
This will become law without his signature, because Congress is not adjourning. More here:

^^
2. Merits aside, this is a very rare bipartisan action. Voters like bipartisanship. By refusing to tout it, Trump once again punches himself in the nuts.

Good idea. Needs reform voters though. Lots of reform voters. Well, we need at least 12 angry reform voters. To form a Jury on if films from a foreign nation can be considered culture in another different nations

Bugger, this is the problem with democracy. We start with a simple statement, and it expands like The Blob. Consuming all in it's path. We won't just need a bigger boat, we will need a planet sized computer to help us find the answer. See, even the most benign thing needs Deep Thought.

I might convert to authoritarianism. It's bloody easier. Let me practice-

"WAKE UP PEOPLE, STOP BEING WOKE".

Erm nah. Surely that makes no sense.
