I’ve been away for a couple of days and got a message that both Kuwait and Bahrain came under attack again. I have no idea why as I haven’t read the news since last Sunday!

Is there ever a reason, except by the orange narcissist’s twisted, selfish, logic?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 08/07/2026 08:58

PickAChew · 08/07/2026 08:08

I think that, even in this two way contest, Count Binface's chances are slim against Farage.

I’ve seen some people mentioning that they hope Carol Vorderman would stand as an Independent against Farage, but it seems that the good folk of Clacton enjoy having a hands-off grifter as their MP, so I don’t think she should waste her deposit.

So the war is back on, then? Vance has to schlep somewhere again?

...When President Trump stepped off his plane in Ankara on Tuesday afternoon, he received an over-the-top welcome comparable only to the one the pope got when he visited Turkey late last year.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was there on the tarmac to greet him — the Turkish autocrat did this for none of the other more than 30 world leaders who arrived in Ankara for a NATO summit — accompanied by dozens of Turks on horseback. A band played “The Star-Spangled Banner” as cannons fired and fighter jets flew low overhead trailing streaks of red, white and blue smoke.
The second Mr. Trump landed on his Qatari-gifted jumbo jet, the center of gravity at the summit shifted right to where Mr. Trump likes it best: himself.
“He takes all the oxygen out of the room for everybody else,” Senator Mike Rounds, Republican of South Dakota, said Tuesday at a reception on the sidelines of the summit in the Turkish capital.
He added: “He’s bigger than life here.”
As usual, Mr. Trump’s idiosyncratic style of governing had ensured a spectacle on the world stage. Indeed, even before he arrived, he was creating big drama between himself and many of the people he would be coming face to face with here this week...

I wish someone would take all the oxygen out of him.

So the war is back on, then? Vance has to schlep somewhere again?

Iran’s armed forces on Wednesday said that they had attacked U.S. military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait, after the United States carried out airstrikes against several targets in Iran and reimposed sanctions on Iranian oil sales.
The Pentagon said its strikes were in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The renewed hostilities put extreme pressure on negotiations between Washington and Tehran for a broader end to the fighting, and again threatened to disrupt the resumption of energy supplies transiting the strategic waterway.
The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, part of the Iranian military, called the U.S. strikes in Iran’s south an “overt act of aggression” and warned that Iran would “deliver a crushing response.” In remarks carried on Iranian state media on Wednesday, it also warned the United States against interfering in Tehran’s management of the Strait of Hormuz.
Hours later, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said that it had targeted 85 U.S. military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait. The Iranian military also shot down an American MQ-9 drone in the attack, the Guards Corps said in a statement published on state media.
The Kuwait Army said its air defenses were intercepting hostile missiles and drones, without specifying the origin of the attack.
U.S. Central Command had earlier said on social media that it had hit more than 80 targets in Iran, including air defense systems, command and control networks and anti-ship missile capabilities.
The U.S. military said it had also targeted more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait “to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor.”

Iran attacked 3 tankers in the Strait (they haven't claimed responsibility for it)

US retaliated by striking targets in south Iran

Iran retaliated by attacking US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain

Corrections. I have been following.

The ships were not in the SOH. They had their AIS off, and Iran said ships MUST follow the established method of transiting the strait.

What the US are saying about where the ships were is very vague, But they were not in Iranian waters where the shipping lanes are. It looks as if they were sneaking out. Or were maybe under US direction.

I am finding my practice at reading PRC state media is coming in handy when it comes to reading what the US are saying these days. Because it is what they don't say that can be more important than what they do.

Yep. I can’t face it.

Failure to understand that we only have an MoU in place due to the fact that Israel and the US started a war is quite staggering and quite frankly, stupid.

RedTagAlan · 08/07/2026 10:25

CNN-

“Spain is a wasted cause. We don’t want to do any trade business with Spain anymore,” Trump said from the Ankara summit on Wednesday. “Spain is a terrible partner in NATO. They don’t participate, they don’t pay. I don’t want anything to do with Spain.”

I should really do a Bingo card of NATO countries so we can tick them off.

On Sunday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that its navy deployed patrol boats to block the “Omani route,” Iranian media and a Telegram channel affiliated with the IRGC said. In its report on the alleged attack, Iran’s Fars News Agency cited its sources as claiming the tanker had been attempting to transit the “Omani route.”

And in a surprising move said no one ever ...oil prices are up

logicisall · 08/07/2026 10:34

So were the ships sneaking through on the Omani side with AIS off?

Farage resignation, followed by running again for the very same position he has just resigned from is quite a thing. I do not think never seen before.
He has refered himself for a "vote of confidence".
Some newspapers are already saying that he will win, and all.
I do hope he does not.

It's a thing in British politics. Carswell, Davies spring to mind

RedTagAlan · 08/07/2026 10:37

This Mitch McConnell thing is odd. The Repubs are in Soviet news mode, silence and denials, and this I took from CNN.

"McConnell’s wife – former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao – had been traveling in China but “the Senator’s health did not warrant an immediate return to the US,” her spokesperson told CNN on Tuesday.
“The secretary was on a long-planned trip in China to support her family’s philanthropic endeavors,” the spokesperson said. “During the trip, she met with a number of people, including the US ambassador. The Senator’s health did not warrant an immediate return to the US.”

As I have said before, nothing happens in the PRC without The Party. And that includes philanthropy. And also, she is from the "wrong" China. She is from the Republic of China.

According to one report that was posted on the other thread, they have been off for a while. I can't open the site that had that report.

Edit - That's why I say " based on what evidence is available".

Just realised that we're creeping towards the end of this thread and I'm off out for the afternoon and evening so, although a little premature, here's a new thread for when we need it.

I expect there'll be a few more NATO countries in line for some insults later today.

I hope Vance has space in his diary. For when Trump dispatches him to help Farage fight his byelection V..... Count Binface.

I have an image in my head of Airforce 2 parked at (London) Southend Airport, and Vance and Farage in a Clacton pub supping electioneering ales, and in walks the Count, with his entourage of wastepaper baskets.

Yeah yeah. It will never happen, I know.

Vance will park has plane at Lakenheath.

That's just up the road from me, I don't need the chaos!

NATO summit

First, he turns up and says he still wants Greeland. Now he wants to end all trade between Spain and the US. Including "visits". Does the "visits" thing cut two ways? No Americans to visit Spain? You could not make this stuff up.

I guess the investigation into the fraudulent/corrupt nature of the 'philanthropic endeavors' during the first Trump administration has not gone anywhere? Quelle surprise.

*actually it wasn't the philanthropic endeavours, it was the awarding of contracts, as I recall.
