How is Ariana Grande allowed to keep going?

She looks like she’s at death’s door with anorexia and yet she’s just kicked off a world tour.

I thought we were living in more enlightened times now and that celebrities’ ill health wouldn’t be enabled like this. If she went to any hospital she’d get admitted for malnutrition.

Kelly’s had a gastric sleeve apparently.

I really feel for her, people were vile about her and her body when the Osbournes was first airing.

her body isn’t due to a gastric sleeve though.

I agree, she didn’t clap back. She tried to guilt trip people who expressed shock at her emaciated appearance by saying it was related to grief, having lost her father more than 6 months previously.

grieving and having anorexia can co exist without being the cause. And even if her anorexia was caused by grief, that doesn’t impact her ability to get support

I know opinions are mixed on Taylor Swift on this forum, but she is a good example of what a healthy weight and body size and shape is IMO. I'm always under the impression that Taylor is not swayed or coerced or bullied by anyone though, and she isn't told how to look as she is very independent. So she doesn't feel the need to lose weight/be skinny/alter her appearance beyond recognition.

I fully expect Taylor Swift bashing comments, as there always are on here, and if there is I won't be responding to them. I just wanted to post that this is a good example of a healthy body. Ariana is not sadly... And I agree that she is setting a bad example to young women and girls.

You can’t compare Taylor and Ariana. If Ariana had Taylor’s look she would be obese. Ariana has always been very petite. It’s an unhelpful comparison.

That said she is gravely ill. She has gone through unthinkable things. She is strong and I hope she gets through this.

This. ^ If you want to discuss overweight celebrities or the ins and outs of being overweight @JollyGreenWatermelon start your own thread. This is not about anyone who is overweight.

I don't want to discuss people who are overweight, I am pointing out the double standards and not being ok with online trolling bullying someone because they don't agree on the way she looks.

She’s a really bad role model for young girls.
so we can say that, but we can't say someone overweight is a really bad role model?

@Namechangefordaughterevasion I never understand the argument that everyone was skinny in the past. Looking at documentary’s, photos etc they clearly weren’t.

I could show you photos of my granny and her sisters which would totally disprove this. I'm in my sixties and so most of my older relations were born 1930/1940/early1950s. The only thin relations were the heavy smokers. Growing up with rationing meant diets were very carb heavy and after the war, very sugar heavy.

I agree. Many women were slim/not fat 50 to 90-ish years ago (not like now where half of the population seems to be chubby!) but they weren't thin. They were just reasonably healthy weights. Look at THESE gorgeous women from the 1950s. Slim to curvy but not 'thin.' No-one looked like Ariana or Kelly back then. (Well, very few!)

How is Ariana Grande allowed to keep going?

Being overweight isn’t a very bad role model though.

Perhaps you are a doctor specialising in anorexia. I'm not.

Neither am I, but she looks very unwell.

I don't think pointing out that a public figure is clearly suffering from an eating disorder is " online trolling bullying someone."

Would you prefer people ignore the evidence before their eyes?

Your other point is whataboutery.

Taylor is very likely at the bottom end of a healthy BMI or even underweight. How could that make Ariana look obese?!

She does doesn't she? Poor lass.

She’s an adult woman. None of these people can stop her going on tour.

It all depends on if she is deemed to have capacity.
If not decisions can be made on her behalf.
She does look really unwell, poor woman.

She has anorexia. She’s nowhere near lacking capacity

it's about Ariana Grande being , I quote looks like she’s at death’s door with anorexia

It's discussing somebody's body. No difference with someone being overweight, or "at death door with obesity"

It's ok to point out the double standards, she's not fair game because she's (too) slim.

Are there any celebs 'at deaths door with obesity' you think we need to discuss?

Taylor is nearly 6 foot. Ariana is 5ft! She’s absolutely tiny.

It’s just an insane comparison.

Isn’t it obvious the poster meant relative to their height?

not that Ariana should simply adopt Taylor’s weight.

I don’t know if you’re being wilfully dense. Artists have cancelled shows for ill health before. You can get someone treatment without their consent if it’s bad enough.

Additionally, arguably the music industry in general has a duty of care to the general public, and young people in particular, not to market stars who are extremely visibly unwell from eating disorders.

I think she means why, not how.
