How is Ariana Grande allowed to keep going?

She looks like she’s at death’s door with anorexia and yet she’s just kicked off a world tour.

I thought we were living in more enlightened times now and that celebrities’ ill health wouldn’t be enabled like this. If she went to any hospital she’d get admitted for malnutrition.

Taylor Swift acknowledges and realises this now and is cognisant of her influence on young girls. She is modelling a good healthy shape now which is no accident.

Jesus Christ. Yes we get it, Taylor is perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Well she’s not an anorexic role model is she? Other normal sized singers are available.

I agree with others that people sometimes can learn to manage it and can manage that way for quite a long time. Of the two relatives I’ve had with It.

relative 1: it was almost like a chronic condition over many years. Managed to stay just above intervention levels of thin until she didn’t and died. Paid the price for her last 10 years re osteoporosis and her face looked bloody awful quite frankly. Basically ate around 600 calories a day plus drunk champagne. Many issues there!

Relative 2: much more of a sudden, a-typical type. Just decided they weren’t going to eat for weeks because they were fat (they weren’t). Became an acute medical crisis very quickly. Very obvious muscle wastage and massive pressure on her heart. Had re-feeding syndrome even with very carefully monitored tube feeding.

She's other things but no I wouldn't say she's anorexic. You've already mentioned her 'lovely' weight upthread, once is enough.

JuliettaCaeser · 12/06/2026 13:47

“Once is enough” pmsl. So you are in charge of what people are allowed to post on threads?! I hadn’t realised Mumsnet had an empress!

Ariana must be about the same height as Sabrina Carpenter. (5foot)

Carpenters persona is a lot more tough and I'm really hoping she doesn't succumb to the cult of skinny. The thing with the Kardashians was they were what's known as "thicc" (I probably have that wrong) so you could look lovely with a big bum and the world didn't collapse

I used to have anorexia, its not fully about what you look like. When I was at my lowest I could recognise i didnt look good, (I had lanugo hair like fur on my shoulders and arms, as well as being painfully thin) but it was about fear and control. Id tell myself that maybe I could allow myself x y or z food or get to a certain weight....but when it came to it, I just couldnt do that, it was too frightening

Me too. Its such a horrible illness. Are you better now Fizboss? 🙏

This is so true. The skeletal look appears to be in at the moment.

I swear the world is going backwards. It's like 90s Heroin Chic all over again. I thought we'd moved on!

I dont get it, that's like saying that an aged fat comedian shouldn't perform in case they have a heart attack. Its the same classification of poor health - just at the other end of the scale.
Do you feel the same about obesity ? Should obese people also be stopped from public performance? Fat people are often great singers/dancers, really enjoy live entertaining and can be equally good at it.
I agree she looks poorly - but on any given day, a bit of people watching in Tesco, will reveal a number of people at both ends of the unhealthy weight scale - should they also be prevented from making public appearances...

The calories she expends during a performance will be immense. Performing will be directly harming her health.

BillieWiper · 12/06/2026 14:28

Corvidsarethebest · 12/06/2026 12:44

I think somehow Cynthia kept her muscle though, it's the lack of muscle that is so concerning- and of course why heart attacks can occur, the heart is a muscle that also shrinks with ED.

Those talking about obesity-it's not quite comparable, as to cause that levele of damage to your heart in your teens, twenties and thirties is very difficult, and those whose hearts are genuinely affected are likely to be so extremely morbidly obese they are not on stages performing- Lizzo and her backing dancers were all sizeable ladies but were way more athletic and would have good heart health compared with those at real risk of imminent heart attack through being very underweight (which IS the risk with ED).

Yeah I agree. Arianna has no muscle and Cynthia looked strong. I was surprised to see she was similar size to Ari as I expected her to be taller. I guess cos Ari is so tiny.

But yeah anorexia can lead to you dropping down dead. That's why they section people to force them to gain weight but would never section someone for being too fat and enforce a diet upon them.

Thank you yes I am v lucky, i have been recovered for probably 20 years. I always wish I was thinner but I am healthy (and 100% happier than when I had AN)
I try to avoid the "what you eat in a day" threads on MN because I know they would be unhelpful for me.

How about you?

That and ozempic. And that bloody quote from Kate Moss (whose daughter sister. [Edited. Soz]. ended up in hospital after doing ozempic)

did she? Kate’s daughter is a type 1 diabetic so I’d be suprised if she’s taken ozempic

Lalgarh · 12/06/2026 15:02

sorry it was her sister Lottie. Also a model.

Backedoffhackedoff · 12/06/2026 15:42

i wont have the queen Kate maligned unfairly 😂 that’s a weight watchers quote

JuliettaCaeser · 12/06/2026 16:02

Yes the heroin chic look all over again can remember it first time round 🙄.

”Insufferable” for mentioning Taylor Swift?! Weird. Lots of young female singers look great and not worryingly thin Dua Lipa /Lana Del Ray / Chappell Roan. Or are we not allowed to mention them either ?!

Exactly, the people in Tesco aren't doing a gruelling world tour.

She must be taking something to give her energy. There's absolutely no way anyone could do that type of grueling physical performance with no fuel in the engine. No way.

Thecows · 12/06/2026 18:00

I'm not a particularly avid Taylor Swift fan but she looks great and a good role model re health and fitness. AG situation is just really tragic

fartotheleftside · 11/06/2026 18:43

Family. Management. Record company. Her doctors. Friends. Even the bloody insurance company for this tour should have a vested interest in making sure she’s healthy.

basically anyone with a personal connection to her or who is currently making money off her.

she looks like she’s at the level of needing an involuntary hold for anorexia to me.

Reminds me of how Britney Spears was still forced to work when mentally unwell. Too ill to make her own decisions but not too ill to be forced to make money for others. Just goes to show how celebrities are thought of by those around them.
