Belfast attack

I can see that the previous thread on the topic is full so I am starting a new one to continue the discussion.

The points I wanted to say as someone who immigrated to the UK over 30 years ago:

• This is a horrific attack and everyone's thoughts should be with the victim and his loved one.

• However, I do think that we have an issue with some people getting into the country whether legally or illegally who simply don't have the same values as the majority of the population and are not able to follow its laws and customs.

• The asylum and immigration system needs a serious overall and to do more to stop men who are a potential danger to society because of their beliefs/culture/failure to integrate getting through the system and ending up committing violent acts. Some people destroy their documents and checks can only go so far when it is hard to verify claims and the chaotic countries they come from does not have reliable records that can be accessed . There are many peaceful and genuine asylum seekers who just want a safe place to live in peace but we seem to be getting in too many angry, violent men who abuse the system and that has to stop.

• I don't want to share the streets with people who have no respect for women and girls, are religious fanatics to the point of extremism or show hate towards gay people and bring violence in general.

• Having people from different cultures coming in is fine as long as they integrate well and take on the values of the country they live in. It does not work if they just live parallel lives and fail to follow the law of the land.

Just like Iraq where the age of consent is now 9yo so little girls are raped because… umm… it’s a bit hot.

But when they enter the UK these men forget all that because there’s some drizzle. Make it make sense..

Most people are aware this kind of divide and rule racism is used to distract from the real problems in our world and society. It is stupid to believe that this won’t stretch to anyone different of any kind.

As it has in Belfast tonight..masked men running amok threatening anyone they perceive as foreign … breaking into houses and threatening residents..the out of control racism is already happening.

I don’t disagree with you, but come to think of it actually White British men don’t tend to attempt to behead strangers at random in the street. When they murder, it tends to be people they know, ie domestic abuse situations or personal vendettas.

That is still horrific of course…but I, as an individual, can at least take steps protect myself and my loved ones from that in some way (by not being involved with abusive men etc). I can’t possibly safeguard against some rando walking past me or my child in the street and attacking us because we’re evil White westerners.

If we don't like desperate people coming to the UK, perhaps we could take steps to make their lives less desperate in the places they're from originally, so they might not leave?

If we could all live without the comfortable benefits of resource extraction and unfair trade policies that might help.

The uk murder rate is around 1 per 100,000.

@Chocolatefreak it's on each country to protect it's citizens. If Thailand feels that British men are going to exploit and hurt it's people it's on them to stop that.
