“Open your eyes”

The unfiltered video (for all its faults on being shared so much and the horror of seeing it), shows that this isn’t a simple knife stabbing and in fact a man shouting in a foreign language was gouging out the eyes of a young male and trying to behead him.

Those are the facts whether you like Musk or not.

The facts? Perhaps you are watching a very mentally ill person. Watching a video does not give you facts.

The BBC are a joke. Completely minimising a brutal attack.

I agree. I no longer trust anything they say. I get my news from a variety of sources which don't include the BBC.

Holy shit, that is horrific. That poor child. I am guessing we will see headlines of mental illness.

The victim was a man in his 40’s. Not that it matters though. It is being investigated by detectives but not currently believed to be terror related.

Circular logic. Only a mentally ill person would do such a thing (such things happening in developing countries all the time … )

Monty36 · Yesterday 09:26

We should not want civil unrest. We should be able to be appalled without resorting to that. We should aim to be higher than a mob going out onto the streets throwing chunks of someone’s garden wall into the police.
At least I don’t really believe most people want to respond to a terrible situation by doing that.
We are able to communicate without rioting.

The bbc aren’t reporting the gory details. That’s all. And tbh I don’t particularly want to know the details or watch the video.

😂😂😂😂

They're not reporting it because, yet again, the attacker was likely an immigrant and it was clearly a racially and religious motivated attack on a white Irish citizen.

When are people going to wake the hell up?!!

Oh sod off. Of course he’s mentally ill if he’s hacking someone to death in such a manner whilst shouting. He’s not exactly going to be stable is he?

The fact is there’s a video of the event in all its horror.

MrsKateColumbo · Yesterday 09:27

Oh my god that's awful.

I know the bbc called it "horrific" but imo any stabbing is horrific/barbaric etc even if it's in the leg.

This is something else, that poor poor man

Absolutely shocking details of the injuries inflicted - the BBC minimise it.

If it wasn’t for Elon Musk people would be a lot less aggressive.

MyThreeWords · Yesterday 09:28

This happened just hours ago and it is perfectly normal for it to take more than that time for a settled account of what happened to be reported in the press.

Also, there are all sorts of perfectly normal reasons for withholding some details. Factchecking, for example, sensitivity towards relatives of the victim who might not yet have all the details, sensitivity about an ongoing criminal investigation and the need not to prejudice it.

Diving in with your conspiratorial anti-migrant agenda is stupid and hateful.

Stop outsourcing your brain to Twitter.

But it was okay when there was massive civil unrest in the UK and everyone went wild in support when a ln American career criminal in America died whilst being arrested. In America?

DontBuyAnotherBook · Yesterday 09:28

Apparently some said it was also obvious that it wasn't the first time this man had done it so I am guessing an ex militant or terrorist background. I don't know if the victim is still alive? There is going to be violence anyway even if you try and minimise the reporting.

Ihatetomatoes · Yesterday 09:29

Waitingfordoggo · Yesterday 08:58

Could you maybe say what happened then because the news report describes it as a stabbing and I’m certainly not going to be seeking out a video as I don’t want to watch a video of a violent event.

I believe the attacker tried to cut the victims head off. Horrific.

Dwrcegin · Yesterday 09:29

I've just seen the bystanders video if it. Poor bloke, what a horrific way to die.

Mob justice isn't going to help, either way. Elon Musk is not doing this for our good.

The victim is still alive thankfully but in critical condition.

MrsKateColumbo · Yesterday 09:31

I dont think civil unrest will help but the problem is those in charge just allow these things to happen, if things dont change, people get angry.

What will Keir Starmer do? I bet my house absolutely nothing

Runsaway · Yesterday 09:31

The BBC isn’t minimising, ffs. They need to fact check and verify, not make stuff up that might not actually be true. “Stabbing” is the right word at this point in time for assault using a bladed article.

"🚨HORRIFIC ATTEMPTED BEHEADING ON THE STREETS OF BELFAST 😱

Graphic Warning ⚠️

Just after 10:30pm last night on Kinnaird Avenue, North Belfast, a man was slashed and stabbed in a frenzied attack, with the suspect on top of him on the ground repeatedly hacking at his head and neck in what looked like an attempt to cut his head off. Blood everywhere.

Hero bystanders dragged the attacker off.

The suspect appears to be a foreign national as he is shouting in a foreign language during the assault.

PSNI have one suspect in custody. Victim rushed to hospital with serious head and neck injuries"

aberamagold · Yesterday 09:31

TheSmallAssassin · Yesterday 08:54

I guess because they want to just report the facts as they are known so far, whilst Elon Musk wants to whip up unrest? Open your eyes, OP.

There are facts that are evident in the video, which all the mainstream news sites will have access to, that they are choosing not to report.
You need to open your eyes.

ForeverPombear · Yesterday 09:31

In fairness to the media (which I don't normally do because I can't stand any of them) they do have to be very careful what they say because media coverage can affect court cases, primarily by jeopardizing the right to a fair trial.

I think that's why it wasn't reported as more than a stabbing due to potential unrest.

MyThreeWords · Yesterday 09:33

... and even if one of the reasons (for withholding details in the first few hours) is the need to avoid giving red meat to deadhead riot-ready social media zombies, then that's fine by me. The BBC wouldn't need to do that if there weren't so many deadhead riot-ready social media zombies ready to engage in a bit of street violence (as a refreshing change from the domestic violence that around 20% are apparently keen on).
