Urghhhh extreme heat like this makes me so depressed, I have no energy to do chores or anything productive and then get more down. Parenting in this heat is so tiring as well. Urghhhhh sorry for moaning I just HATE HEATWAVES

TallSturdyGirl · 25/05/2026 14:58

I love it sorry!
Just been for a three hour hill walk and then to a BBQ. Even played football twice this weekend. DH is not a fan and is hiding with the dogs who are most put out with not being allowed on the long walks Ive been on.

AgnesMcDoo · 25/05/2026 15:07

It’s made it up to 23C so Im sun bathing in the garden with an ice lolly ☀️🕶️🌞

Love it

Tuxedomaddness · 25/05/2026 15:29

Just went into town for s mooch. Car temp was reading 36c. Now back in garden.

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 25/05/2026 15:41

@babymamalove do stuff first thing I've been up since 5.30 and did some house work and gardening ,Chores out and about .
Aired house then close all window and curtains as the sun comes around.
Don't do much throughout the day but yes parenting small DC in this heat is a nightmare .

During the summer of 2022, the UK experienced five distinct heatwave periods ranging from 3 to 16 days in length, which culminated in a historic national temperature record of (40.3^{\circ }\text{C}). 1, 2]
According to the UK Health Security Agency, the five heatwave episodes included:
Episode 1: 4 days (June 16 to June 19)
Episode 2: 16 days (July 10 to July 25), which included the most intense 2-day period of Level 4 extreme heat (July 18 and July 19)
Episode 3: 7 days (July 30 to August 5)
Episode 4: 10 days (August 8 to August 17)
Episode 5: 3 days (August 23 to August 25)
The UK experienced four distinct, relatively short-lived heatwaves during the summer of 2025, each lasting between 5 to 6 days. While these events were brief, they occurred throughout the season and resulted in the warmest overall UK summer on record. 1, 2, 3]
Breakdown of the 2025 heatwave events:
Heatwave 1 (Third week of June): Officially declared in mid-June, lasting about five days in central and eastern England before breaking with thunderstorms.
Heatwave 2 (Late June - Early July): This event lasted about six days for parts of Yorkshire and the Humber and five days in the East. A longer, more intense spell of this heatwave affected London and southern areas, peaking at 34.7°C between June 23 and July 2.
Heatwave 3 & 4 (July and August): Additional, intermittent heatwaves occurred during these months, pushing the overall summer average for the UK to a record-breaking 16.1°C. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

So is the North West (Grtr Manchester)I can't remember it hitting 36c here before.
I really think this is here to stay.

sunnydisaster · 25/05/2026 16:21

London is boiling! Currently in shade in garden which is just about doable. Walking on patio is like walking over hot coals! One more day and then it drops to a more manageable temp.

Yes, Liverpool was boiling when we left this morning. Don't think I've ever known Liverpool be quite that hot (it's normally got a chilly edge to it, even in summer).

Lottapianos · 25/05/2026 16:41

Living for Wednesday when it gets down to 23 degrees - that's my idea of bliss. Next weekend looking more like 26 degrees which is fine

I honestly don't understand how people can enjoy this 30+ degree weather. All you can do is sit in the shade, and drink and eat cold stuff, and that's ok for a day or two, but come on. Do you people not sweat?!

yep cooking meals including cooking healthy meals is out.

Summerunlover · 25/05/2026 16:50

London is like an oven today! I want a pub garden and a cold cider.

TreesandGreen · 25/05/2026 16:57

It's uncommonly hot for May. We're technically not even in summer yet. It's still spring.
I'm in Sussex - been over 30°C today I think. Far too hot for me. Fortunately cool indoors where I am (old Victorian building) which I'm grateful for. As is the dog. I feel very sorry for dogs in hot environments.

I saw a couple of fuckwits walking their dog as we got off the tube at Earls Court, at about 3.30. Utter idiots.

Our dog flops round in the shade on his cooling mat or raised bed. He's not a sunshine lover!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 25/05/2026 17:19

That is awful. Poor dog.

DontGoChasinWaterfalls · 25/05/2026 17:25

Not in UK atm, but in Paris.. went to Disneyland today... it was 33 degrees...utterly horrendous walking around. I was melting. I brought a fan and DD managed to lose it during the frozen world viewing, so I paid 20 euros for a bloody plastic water fan.
Braving day two tomorrow!
There was a woman with beige leather trousers on today...I don't know what she was thinking! I had shorts on and was melting.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/05/2026 17:35

Beige leather trousers?? Christ on a bike. I'd be dead. I'm in a vest top and a skort with sandals and was melting!

I wore black leggings and a t-shirt and felt like a madwoman!

What on earth was she thinking?!

DD1 is in Paris & Disneyland with a school trip - really worried about her; they’re doing 20-30,000 steps a day and hardly any shade 🥵

I think kids cope a lot better than us adults. Suncreen and water and she will be having a ball.

Tuxedomaddness · 25/05/2026 18:07

@mumofoneAloneandwell is was the Man city parade today! Sorry i did not say goodbye Pep but no chance i was going to join thousands of others in the city centre in this heat!!

Oh gosh, that's madness. We went for our walk at about 6am this morning, before it got crazy hot. Since then he's been indoors most of the day, in relative cool. Just out for a wee in the garden and it's still too hot for him. He's short-haired, so it must be horrendous for fluffy dogs.
