This is the second day of hot weather for us. It was like this yesterday and according to the weather app, predicted tomorrow too

In fact it supposed to reach 33 on Tuesday!!

Edited

Third day here, and the forecast has changed from it cooling a little by midweek to carrying on in the high 20s into next weekend. It’s 28° here today.

I hate heat, I’ve never liked it. Even as a child I’d be found in the shade or indoors.

Notmyreality · 23/05/2026 20:28

I’m in the NW by the coast. It’s loverly and cool right now..15deg.

I'm in Edinburgh. Currently 18 degrees allegedly but it's too hot for me. I only put my "big coat" away on Thursday!!
I'm off to Crete on Monday. I can cope with heat on holiday but I've been cleaning today and it's just too much. I've people coming for supper thankfully I did the main batch of cooking last weekend!

I might join you because Crete is looking like it will be around 23 degrees come Tuesday. Whereas here on the north Kent coast it’s forecast as 32 degrees. I like the hot weather but that’s getting too hot to be able to do anything other than sit in front of a fan all day.

sweetkitty · 23/05/2026 20:57

I think we’ve just got to start getting more prepared for these hot summers in the UK now especially in the South, stop building houses that tray heat inside them. Move away from carpets, build shutters on the outside of windows. Start building like our southern Mediterranean cousins, they know when the heat is coming and they prepare for it. We don’t know if we’re going to get 3 days or 3 months.

It has been ONE day!!! The rest of us have to put up with shitty cold and damp weather for 10 months of the year

You do know that those of us made physically ill by hot weather also have to put up with the shitty cold and damp weather?

mumofoneAloneandwell · 23/05/2026 20:57

Next summer is the year I get aircon

Enough is enough

15C in my part of the UK

I'm jealous. I’d love a bit of sunshine and heat.

Where are you? In the UK? There’s no heatwave where I am.

Nor me.

mellongoose · 23/05/2026 21:14

Beautiful day in Cornwall. Sea breeze and a swim.

Thanks.
I tell a lie, it was £1800 + vat 😬. I guess prices have gone up a lot in the last 4 years.

If you get the a/c that also acts as a heater there shouldn't be any vat. However the man who is currently installing ours said not everyone is honest about that.

We're paying £1400 for the living room (which will also do conservatory if it isn't too hot) and I think it's about £1200 for each bedroom. They have a single unit outside...it's slightly more to have completely separate units.

I love it! But I’m still in my 30s, slim-ish, with no health problems, so I do appreciate I am lucky. We are in london and have been in the garden all day. Absolutely love london in the summer - the city really comes into its own. But I think if you live here you are used to far more brutal temperatures in summer so these ones don’t feel too bad. Unfortunately climate change means that we have had to adapt to higher temperatures and there are points in the summer when I question how liveable the city will continue to be.

However this is perfect for me!

pigmygoatsinjumpers · 23/05/2026 21:37

77F in the shade in my part of Dorset today. Tuesday is forecast to be 84-86F.

One family member with long-term condition does not cope well in these kind of temperatures.

Agree that the vibe in london does change during the summer

Hi, long time lurker but now finally joining Mumsnet as I saw this thread and have always suffered reverse SAD and heat related issues.

We got ducted air conditioning throughout upstairs (5 bedroom house). It was £12k and the best thing we ever did. It also heats. It’s zoned so each bedroom can be controlled separately (individual units on the walls and is also app based).

The app means we can control it when we’re not home as well. Or in the winter I can press ‘heat’ on my app to get our bedroom warm before bedtime
from the comfort of our sofa.

It’s our second summer with it now and wouldn’t be without it.

Bikenutz · 24/05/2026 10:58

To those commenting about not having a garden, head to your nearest green space. I had a lovely afternoon at the cricket ground, sat under a tree with a flask of ice water, reading!

JFDIYOLO · 24/05/2026 12:31

I am Out Without A Bra. And It. Feels. AMAZING. Nobody cares. I'm covered. I'm fairly comfortable. No restricting bands, straps, wires. That weird itching I get under it when it gets hot - gone.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 24/05/2026 12:35

My cocktail era is over, ive got a banging headache

So its day 3 of the heatwave - got lots of ice and ice lollies

What? That doesn’t make sense. There’s different weather in different parts of the country.

Do we not comment until Liverpool has cleared it first? Or should every opinion have a * ?

*it’s shitty in Liverpool

Sounds like a plan to be fair 🤷🏼‍♀️

sashh · 24/05/2026 12:49

I do not deal with heat well, here are my top tips.

  1. Invest in a portable air con or two

  2. first thing in the morning put any fan(s) you have on but blow the air out of the windows, you are getting rid of the overnight heat and bringing cooler air in.

  3. you want to keep that cool air so close the windows and draw curtains / blinds

  4. get a 'cooling towel' if you can't get one then soak a towel or tea towel in cold water and hang round your neck.

  5. Do no cooking. You can get food delivered or eat something cold.

I actually have 2 fridges, one in the kitchen for food and a second in my living room which is set at a colder setting and is filled with mainly cans.

coolastheproverbialcucumber · 24/05/2026 12:55

@mumofoneAloneandwellyou won’t regret it. It’s an investment too - you’ll recoup the costs in the value of the the property

TypicalBlue · 24/05/2026 13:01

We got an AC unit a few years ago when it hit 40 degrees. It has been a great purchase.

PinkOrchard · 24/05/2026 13:19

I'm not coping either! Currently 34 weeks pregnant with a clingy 17 month old who we co-sleep with... 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
