A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Very good PMQs from Kemi.
Starner trying to deny loosening sanctions on Russian oil.

Karl Turner knifed Starmer for the briefings against him and smears about his mental health.

Ooh, will watch later!

SapphireCasino · 20/05/2026 13:11

I realise it's not the issue of the day

But I'm going to say fair play to Hannah Spencer for asking a question about alcohol in the House of Commons

However, before asking the question, she should've known the answer and Keir Starmer should have provided it

The subsidised alcohol is not subsidised by the taxpayer. Wouldn't that be the right way to handle that question?

of course, the irony of someone asking when her party wants to legalise drug drugs is not lost on me. But I think it was a legit question to ask.

I have worked in a place with a bar on site, but it didn't open until 5 o'clock. I think this is part of parliamentarians need to work in a similar way to the rest of us? Nothing stopping you going out and buying a drink.

actually, that's a really long discussion when I stop and think about it 😂

i'm off sick today, so I've probably got far too much time on my hands!

Mental health, who knows. I'd assumed he was in the thrall of WEF.

God I'm so bored of hearing Andy Burnham's name. Ive had to switch the radio off.
Most of those blowing smoke up Burnham's arse can't even pronounce Makerfield, they shove a random 's' in the middle.

It seems the 🦜s have abandoned Starmer now and are backing Burnham (as predicted).

@redange I don't suit video as a format

My brain needs text so I can speed read and assimilate a lot of info in one go

I do recognise that man because I think he's been interviewed on Triggernometry. However, again it's quite rare for me to do podcast, it's usually when I'm cleaning the flat or something. Another master of the scripted gotcha?

Funnily enough, you posting that made me think...

I nearly posted this earlier, but I don't want to go too off-topic

I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole last night because of the number of local politicians who seem to have joined Restore. i'm not sure to what extent they are busy Astroturfing, or whether we really are going back to the scary days of the BNP etc etc

It's complicated by the fact that there are now so many people making money out of posting stuff online.

In theory being off sick, it would be a good day to sit down and investigate exactly how these people are making money.... but in reality, I'm going to have another nap!

this kind of brings us back to "is Britain ungovernable" but there are all kinds of theories about the Astroturfing thing -including that it's always sponsored by government.

I really am on information overload if I looked at the thumbnail you posted @redange and then this fell out of my brain! 😂

I must at least step away from the Internet for the afternoon....

Haha at that emoji. It’s enough already from all of them. I hope they sink further due to annoying the electorate even more.

Nuthatch26 · 20/05/2026 16:22

🦜 🦜 🦜 😂

I'm glad to see the real Andy Burnham getting a good airing on MN. I'm sure he'll come out with a shiny new set of principles on VAWG any day now. Thats what he does.

On the Arsenal thread I have really wound them Up. Suggesting that the PM (the most famous Arsenal Supporter ) is looking forward to his next Freebie . This when there has been about 200,000 applications for 16,826 tickets in Budapest ! yet Arse'hole would not give up his ticket

Any way why have we got a thread because Arsenal have won the League . It is no big deal for Liverpool, Man City or even Man Utd' we go on with our daily lives when we win the League. I suspect Arsenal has a lot of North London Labourites as fans which highlights how pathetic they are.

Starmer says the UK made a trade deal with North Korea before apologising for mistake #ukpolitics

Apparently the deal involves David Lamy getting advice in how to set up re-education camps for those found guilty in his no Jury Trials !

So much has happened today it's hard to assimilate it all.
So Andy Burnham said people not wanting trans women in women's loos was a *minority position ".
We know it's not but is being. "Minority " position in anyway an acceptable excuse ?

Russian jet fuel ! Is high farce ,I can imagine this added as a new scene in dr strange glove!!
Dimitri !

Talk of red ed getting near the doors to no 11??

I sincerely hope van man wins in Makerfied.

Sadly not. Labour want kids badly educated in Wales, they've been dumbing down for decades. Future labour voters maybe.

And people bought Labour’s pre GE nonsense on VAT ever helping state education.

Unrivalled · 20/05/2026 19:50

oh Bridget, how I do loathe thee, let me count the ways...as for Paul Johnson 'do we really want to live in a country where the state sets food prices' (to which I would add, the state also sets a huge amount of wages either through the minimum wage, public sector wage bill, or high taxes...no Paul, I don't. I'd like people's choices and effort to, um, matter.

@Unrivalled, my DH and I have just finished supper. We had a bottle of Champagne from a top grower and lamented our woes of this government.

We spoke about working hard, we spoke about aspiration and achievement. We spoke about education. C’est normal!

We spoke about family members that do the 9 to
5 and when we try to encourage them to save, re-train, aspire, say, quote “oh no, I do enough already”.

Gosh, it is demoralising for us, this culture of grievance that this government has instilled,
and we have a level of success.

And then @justasking111, Bridgette sits down with Gemma, I have not ever watched an episode of TOWIE, but know of Gemma because she is a celeb, and promotes her as an inspirational educational figure.

Surely it was done to wind people like me up. I’m…I’m…I’m…I’m….lost for words.

Sir Keir Starmer’s team was kept in the loop about Labour Together’s “indefensible” investigation into the background of journalists who had written critical pieces about the loyalist think-tank, according to newly released documents.

The files showed that Morgan McSweeney, former chief of staff to the prime minister, was among the aides to Starmer who received updates on the progress of the probe in the run-up to the general election of 2024.

The revelation raises uncomfortable questions for Starmer and whether he knew anything about Josh Simons, one of his closest allies at the time, commissioning an investigation into the activities of journalists.

Simons was in February forced to step down as Cabinet Office minister after it emerged that in 2023, the think-tank paid US company APCO Worldwide more than £30,000 to “investigate the sourcing, funding and origins” of a Sunday Times story about undeclared donations to Labour Together.
