A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Starmer’s speech today was terrifying. He and Labour will destroy the country if they are not ousted soon.

Never let it be said that Starmer is a captivating and inspiring orator.

Hallowedturf · 11/05/2026 11:28

Top Guardian reader comment:

It’s Wes that I feel for.
Hampered by modesty, a selflessly loyal supporter of Keir Starmer, and motivated by nothing but a dedication to public service. It must be hurting him so much to be forced into a situation where he now has no choice but to run for the leadership to save the country. Cometh the hour cometh the weasel.

LOL.

EasternStandard · 11/05/2026 11:31

That speech was bad. It had nothing but worse he leant on his personal family schtick again. Why on earth is he thinking the electorate want to hear that?

That and the forced clapping was just surreal.

redange · 11/05/2026 11:33

I am beginning to think the task of saving the country will be to big when finally this government is ousted ! What is abundantly clear on Mumsnet is that you cannot educate 'Pork' I.E those on the Left on this site who continually go on about 14 years of Tory carnage. They are the most 'clueless' people ever to inhabit this planet . The intended and actual damage done in 22 months to the United Kingdom is on a magnitude of 5 compared to the previous 14 years of Conservative rule. In fact around the General Election, the country was starting to see a bit of improvement in it after three years of 'Covid' hell.

The people who frequent the left wing posts on here have Degree's, Masters and PHD's they know how to write essays where full stops and comma's should go, In fact they delight in telling people how academically intelligent they are. The truth is these posters are among the most 'culturally' incompetent and economically illiterate people in the United Kingdom.

Sarahconnor1 · 11/05/2026 11:36

There was nothing new in that speech, unless I zoned out and missed it. Lots of rhetoric (i use the term loosely) backed up with no solutions

And this is him fighting for his political survival

MNLurker1345 · 11/05/2026 11:36

Hi @ 32! I didn’t watch the speech. I just can’t, I have an aversion to his voice. My DH did, poor thing. I am catching up on The Telegraph,
The Spectator, The Critic and here obviously.

redange · 11/05/2026 11:46

The task of saving the United Kingdom will be beyond anyone. It is not just the will of any party to do so. It will be the barriers put up by the establishment, the general public who in large numbers have been brainwashed over 30 years to endorse the direction of the country. Indeed this indoctrination goes back to its beginnings in the 70's and 80's where it was able to be defeated. However, eventually the socialists and the adopting of 'Modern' Communist theory is currently being enacted on the population of the United Kingdom through Plaid, SNP and the Labour Party. People might argue and suggest this is not Communism, but they see it through a 1920's focus and cannot understand that Communism in 2026 would have advanced to where we currently are. I.E Complete control by Cameras ID Cards and no Jury Trials.

It’s telling, isn’t it, that even at this time Starmer can’t deliver anything moving or convincing. He’s so flat.

I remember at least two Blair speeches that were big moments when his leadership was being questioned. He could talk to people, of all backgrounds, and persuade them
or at least get them to listen. Starmer just can’t do it.

The cult of the dull plodder that MN’s Labour faithful are so keen on now will go out the window if Streeting or Burnham or Rayner take Starmer’s place.

punkhairbrush · 11/05/2026 11:51

I felt the delivery of his speech was more optimistic and uplifting! I’m not an economic expert, but I think a few little tangible wins for the public could have helped him (scrap stamp duty for first times buyers, and something for small businesses etc) everything he talks about I thought was positive, but they need to offer a couple of things that we, the public, will feel quite soon! Maybe I’m the only one feeling that way?

punkhairbrush · 11/05/2026 11:54

@redangeas someone who is more left leaning this made me laugh, as I do tend to agree with you! Nothing in that speech about kick starting the economy. If small to medium businesses were allowed to thrive this would create more jobs, more people would have more money and be spending, more people would aim to get a small property! Where are the first times buyer incentives? He keeps talking about building houses - trust me there is a lot of housing stock going very cheap at the moment but it’s not shifting as it’s too expensive to move (stamp
duty, mortgages rates, cgt etc etc)

I do wonder if he got results in Court by boring the Judge to tears. Listening to his submissions too often would tip you over the edge!

Optimistic and uplifting? What did you hear that I didn't. It's just the same content delivered in the same way to an audience of clapping seals.

punkhairbrush · 11/05/2026 12:03

@Upstartledhaha, true! I just felt his demeanour was a little less doom and gloom at the beginning.

No, the lack of tie!

WellErrr · 11/05/2026 12:08

That was dire.

What a load of nothing. And then his answer for youth unemployment - not look at the effect of NMW increases and sick pay from day one, not employers NIC….nope, a scheme where they can go work in the EU, and EU youngsters can come and work here.

He is completely tone deaf.
