A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Here you all are - hello!

I'm pleased to say, I don't really know what's going on in politics today.

I know some of you are also watching the Diplomat. I just watched season three episode two. Kate seems to have referred to the "blow hole" instead of "blower" for the telephone?! I actually re-wound it to make sure I've heard right. That is a huge error! Or have I missed some modern variation? I did a full on double take when I heard that. Makes no sense.

All those stately homes are giving me the envy! I bet they're freezing, but then again we pay the heating bills... so maybe they're not...

EasternStandard · 18/05/2026 20:07

Exactly. Bloody Labour always using ‘the media’ even as they do press conferences to the media. What do they expect?

All about the comms, remember?! (Nothing to do with what they're doing, just the comms...something the Labour fans cling to!)

Another corker from Tim Stanley.
He's keeping me sane atm. 😂

Tim Stanley is so funny!

I listened to a couple of episodes of Daily T on my way home tonight. Belly laughing when he was talking about claiming benefits and cheap entry tickets for his deaf dog. 🤣🤣

Good on you, politics is a binfire anyway. The Diplomat is much better, even if they don't understand what a 'blower' is. 😁
I'm just about to watch the final episode of Legends. Its brilliant.

Manchester evening news had another Burnham story.

He went out jogging and came back in his car.

DH mused he might have been to the pub and left the car there.

This is a great example of "if you're not paying attention, you will know about it anyway"

I do actually know about this one! But I just assumed that Andy Burnham organised a photo opwith that run

Round here, it's perfectly normal to drive to the nicer spots for running. Also, on the occasions that I go to that pub group that I've mentioned, There's at least two people who leave their car there, have a drink, go to the gym or go running first thing in the morning and then pick up the car before all the permit rules start.

I'm hugely impressed with anybody who can do any kind of running or working out, but particularly if they can do it first thing in the morning, and even more so if they can do it after having quite a bit to drink at the pub.

I wish I had their resilience.

I run with FluffyDog in the morning. Sometimes it's pretty damn challenging at 6, as we shoot off like Usain Bolt from the blocks! Thankfully he slows down once he's done a poo been out for a bit.

I don't wear shorts as short as Burnham's though. 👀 🙈🤣

SapphireCasino · 18/05/2026 21:19

@NoWordForFluffy I can't walk and chew gum at the same time so I admire anyone who runs. Sadly, my general ineptitude and clumsiness is well known.

I would've actually said I had dyspraxia but it's not something I've ever checked. I posted about it here before, but I have rather given up on doing anything about it at my age.

If they take a pic every time he runs he’s going to need a full sport repertoire.

I said to dh tg no one takes pics when I get back from a run and he said all the shots are as he leaves his house, not on the way back. Pre sweatiness.

On another personal level I’ve been wondering how Josh Simons can just give up a relatively well paid job. Maybe he’s hoping for a better position if AB wins but it’s a risk.

I'm OK as long as there isn't an inanimate object to get into a fight with. I'm more of a danger to myself in the home. Though I do have a habit of getting tangled up with branches and sticks. Even if I've seen them!

I have no coordination. I can't do anything which requires your left arm forward and right leg back, for instance. I was useless at aqua aerobics (but very splashy!).

I get the impression of a lot of politicians go running

But they are super energetic people

I wonder how much sleep they get every night.

CaveMum · 18/05/2026 21:31

I thought they only ran when something was going on (Gove is another example), and they wanted to be papped?

Thatcher was famous for very little sleep. I doubt most politicians have that little!

It's very America brained. I blame it on Bill Clinton having his photo taken jogging, when you just had to look at Clinton to know he wasn't a fitness fanatic.

There are whole generations of Labour spads with boy-crushes on Bill Clinton, to go along with their West Wing box sets and their silly little smash burgers with buffalo sauce.

Yeah, it’s the Clinton ‘man of action, fit for the fight, but sooo relatable with my cost free exercise’ crap. Total performative bullshit.

SapphireCasino · 18/05/2026 22:43

Interesting

A lot of the successful people I've worked with have been runners

So, I don't have a reason to be suspicious of it

In terms of being overweight, I think it's pretty common to run but to also eat a lot. I'm also fat can you tell? 😂 so if we ever had a meet up, you will spot me easily 😱 i'll be the short fat clumsy one!

Morning.

UK unemployment rate has risen to 5%. Earnings growth has slowed from 3.6% to 3.4%.
Number of job vacancies falls to 5 year low (ONS).

A measure of monthly payrolls contracted by 100,000 in April, worse than estimates of around 28,000. Payrolls also contracted by 28,000 in March. The number of job vacancies fell to the lowest level in five years, the ONS said.

I’d assumed the photo snappers are new rather than the running too @SapphireCasino

This isn’t good though

Youth unemployment hits 16.2pc
Number of young people out of work hits 11-year high as tax raids hit businesses

Do you reckon pro Labour are realising the impact of their policies yet?
