A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Morning.

UK unemployment rate has risen to 5%. Earnings growth has slowed from 3.6% to 3.4%.
Number of job vacancies falls to 5 year low (ONS).

A measure of monthly payrolls contracted by 100,000 in April, worse than estimates of around 28,000. Payrolls also contracted by 28,000 in March. The number of job vacancies fell to the lowest level in five years, the ONS said.

I definitely saw one of the Labour fans on here the other day saying that unemployment had dropped to the lowest level since 2016. Clearly not right!

The youth unemployment rate is shocking. Labour won't get it though. If they did, they wouldn't have introduced the stupid employment-stifling policies to start with.

Rayner called for even higher NMW for young people recently. They definitely don't get it.
My dd is one of those statistics. Lost her job in a pub when they had to reduce opening hours.

I've seen some blaming AI, even though a high % of the job losses have been in hospitality and retail. Now they'll blame the Iran war. Anything except Reeves and Labour policies basically.

Hope you didn't get papped on your run this morning 😂

No run today as I'm in the office! But I'll keep an eye out for the pappers tomorrow. 🤣🤣

They're economically illiterate. Nothing will persuade me otherwise.

It seems now that building new council housing is the new boost for the economy.

So once - and if that’s built - who is going to pay the rent? UCs housing element?

We haven't got the labour for building. Companies have laid off the men. Not taken on apprentices because there's no work. The price of materials has gone up, sometimes doubling overnight.

Estimates are guesswork. It's a complete shit show.

They really want Burnham. If he loses the by-election they can lament that earlier NEC blocking at leisure.

We’ll import builder, as usual.

Release of Mandelson files delayed until after recess.
Colour me surprised.

Govt also accused of redactions and documents being withheld outside the terms of the humble address.

Darren Jones now refusing to say that the documents will be released before the by election.
They haven't learned a thing.

Maybe in the cities there might be some of that happening but not outside. And who's going to tell them what to do. Who's going to pay for the materials. Who's going to sort out their accommodation. The building industry has been mothballed for now, it's that or go bust.

Well that'll dodge any charges being brought.

Well that may add another challenge for Burnham with the by-election. I think perhaps I’m being too cynical about how far Starmer might go to stop Burnham without using the obvious NEC block. It does make we wonder though…..

Starmer would use anything to stay where he is regardless of potential to win for Labour.

Looking as corrupt as bloody Mandelson! They're an appalling bunch.

EasternStandard · 19/05/2026 13:42

Burnham goes from being blocked by the NEC to the only candidate they put on the list for selection.

He still might not win of course. I can’t imagine the MPs who want him and the members will be too happy with that initial decision to block.

Edited

Reform have confirmed they're sticking with local candidate Robert Kenyon.

I googled 😂 it’s a just over a week I think.

All must send that they go into recess (yet again) on Friday. Ridiculous!!! Presumably a hangover of the days when it worked be two days ride for some MPs to get back to the constituency?

Just like my kids, always on holiday.

Yep.

I was listening to something about contempt of parliament and Mandelson files. Hopefully they won’t get away with it.

Nuthatch26 · 19/05/2026 14:19

Yes David Davis threatened this in the House this afternoon.

Sorry, I didn't mean to quote you in my last post about Robert Kenyon's candidacy. Not sure why that happened and can't edit.

All with public sector pensions attached.

I wonder how many teachers, soldiers/sailors/airpeople and HCPs that 114K includes.
