A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Ds2 is in sixth form college. Every single week I get an email about his attendance and, every time he gets an email from college, I get a duplicate. Presumably in case he didn't read something properly and I am still meant to be playing back-up?

When I was at college, I was well aware that a trigger for a phonecall home was dropping to 80% attendance. Up to that point, I could spend as much time playing pool in the pub at the top of our road as I liked and my parents were out of the equation completely. 😁

Why is your DS late for 6th form college every week?

SionnachRuadh · 29/05/2026 08:09

I didn't know Starmer had a substack, and I'm not massively motivated to read it.

I see his media team are now trying to make him seem "cool" and "down with the kids" by putting Afrobeats in his TikToks.

At least he isn't giving speeches in roadman slang. Not yet anyway.

He isn't. I get an email every week to tell me that he has full attendance.

They can cool up Starmer as much as they want but Starmer ain’t cool and Starmer has made it clear he doesn’t do culture.

He only does working people and breakfast clubs, so he really needs to be putting baby shark on his TikToks.

But I will give him the benefit of the doubt, in the evening he could be grooving with his children in the kitchen to Burna Boy and Tyla. Go Keir!

Why? What a waste of time, effort and resources?

That is your point!

Yes. But beyond the waste in resources, it's infantilising too. At 17 there should be a shift to moving the relationship between the student and the college without a parent wedged unnecessarily and pro-actively in the middle.

Edit: I meant to add, there should be some opportunity to make sub-par decisions and manage the outcome yourself without the parental panopticon once you approach adulthood.

I didn’t know either and am happy to continue avoiding it.

The SM team must have been briefed with guidelines to appeal to younger age groups. It’s so bad but maybe they think all comments are good as interaction, even though most are negative or taking the p.

Maybe it's a ploy to get kids off tic tok?

It all seems too little too late given that the Green Party is now led by Ali G

Starmer has a substack? Well, that’s my summer reading sorted. I imagine it must be a collection of writings that rival Orwell for intellectual heft and piercing insights.

They have to get to that rising 16/ 17yo voting population who they assumed would keep the Conservatives out and who tho have just come to realise will punish them too.

The Blair stuff is bonkers, two days ago the same lot were banging the drum on his great he and the last Labour gov were.

Upstartled · 29/05/2026 09:30

I know. I need to come off that thread. It's dizzying.

Nuthatch26 · 29/05/2026 09:32

Good morning 😁

Yes the Blair stuff is bonkers. According to a survey published by Labour List, Blair is the most popular leader in the last 40 years among Labour members.

Its just the mumsnet massive who are obsessed with Starmer and Rayner. I think they want to Labour to lose the next election, much more comfy carping from opposition.

Just popping in to say I am extremely happy this morning.

Thanks to Labour losing its majority to the Conservatives in Enfield, their plan to destroy a truly lovely bit of countryside and woods to build new homes has been cancelled.

It's completely unhinged.

It's the standard MO of some of them. It's like trying to debate with a recalcitrant toddler! Waste of words / breath.

The hypocrisy is hilarious though.

Yes. I'm definitely out now. 😁

I wish we had a recent MRP poll, it feels like so much has changed since April when I saw the last one, it would be interesting to see the impact on potential seats.
