Nicola Sturgeon’s estranged husband has admitted embezzling £400,000 from the SNP.

Peter Murrell, the party’s former chief executive, was led away in handcuffs and remanded into custody after pleading guilty to embezzling £400,310.65. He will be sentenced on June 23.

He was accused of using the money to buy items, including a motorhome and luxury goods, and towards the purchase of two cars, between August 2010 and October 2022.

During the hearing at Edinburgh’s High Court on Monday, the judge told Murrell, 61, that his actions amounted to a “gross breach of trust”.

Nicola has to be in the dock next, surely. Utterly implausible that she didn’t know.

Starmer and his cabinet are the grown ups, remember? Strong, steady, committed, totally working as a team, no chaos, adults in the room blah, blah blah. 🙄

carnival of bullshit is exactly right! As for Nicola, she’s been exonerated nothing ever sticks to her. Full credit to police Scotland for making such a compelling case that Murrell pleaded guilty.

Teflon Sturgeon would have benefited from Murrell's crimes and was undoubtedly complicit. She's many things, but not stupid or unaware.

Seems to me Murrell's taken the bullet for Sturgeon.

23 June was the day of the Brexit vote. It seems like it'll end up being an important date again! (It's also DD's birthday, so she has some interesting things which have happened / will happen on the same date!)

I believe it was on her MIL’s drive. Which is completely, 100% different. It would never have occurred to anyone in the family to ask why Mrs Murrell had a £100k camper van parked outside her house for two years.

If she’s still alive, Mrs Murrell is 96. Easily young enough to go driving solo around the world in a massive camper vehicle.

Social housing is being awarded to wealthier people at record levels under Labour, The Telegraph can reveal.
The number of social housing properties handed to households with net incomes of at least £50,000 a year in England is now higher than at any time since records began in 2007.
It comes after plans to limit the incomes of households who could be granted social housing were scrapped by Angela Rayner after Labour won the last election.
There were more than 2,190 placements made to households earning £50,000 or more after taxes in 2024-2025, almost double the number in the year before Labour came to power. It compared to just 270 in 2021-2022.
