We are a kind and welcoming group supporting each other in our daily tasks to organize and declutter and stay on top of all that needs doing. We share our accomplishments and brain dump our to-do lists in a friendly chat over coffee manner. 😊☕️

Yeay for Australia pics 😍 thank you @FourSeasonsLobelia

We went into town with D today to get her stocked up on holiday reading (combination of library and birthday money in waterstones). We have a 2hr train journey to Gatwick plus the flight on Monday so that alone requires a lot of time to fill!

I need to pack....

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/07/2026 01:11

Love that pic, Lobelia.
Have a good trio, Single.
🙂

Got into the garden and thinned out the predatory tomato plants; cleaned up the lettuce; then started on the squash, but didn't have gloves, so will leave that til next time. They're quite prickly.
Had my mum to hosp today for an appt and also visited elderly former neighbour there.
Load of laundry done last night. That's about it.

Lovely photo @FourSeasonsLobelia - so peaceful looking.
dc1 and I had very productive shopping trip earlier which I thought would take hours but didn't.
Music festival locally this weekend, we went yesterday and it was great till the heavens opened and the wind picked up.
Also £6 for a chocolate brownie, ouch.
This week is holiday prep and the need to clean the house before the holiday. All cushion covers are in the machine, I'm not sure where the crazy pre-holiday house clean compulsion comes from.
Happy Sunday afternoon all

Peridot1 · 27/07/2026 09:48

Morning all. Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

I ended up with a bout of cystitis on Saturday so not much done here over the weekend.

So today the house is a bit of a mess. DH has already unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and it’s on. I hadn’t put it on yesterday afternoon so once dinner prep was done it was already full and on.

I need to do laundry, clean the kitchen, vacuum the ground floor, go for a walk, dust sitting and dining areas, do a menu plan for the week and tidy the utility room. That will be a good start to the week. Might do some garden stuff this afternoon too.

Hope @WinterFrogs is ok. She’s not been around for a few days now and hasn’t been on the puzzle threads either.

Have a good day all.

watchPhone · 27/07/2026 11:15

morning - I randomly had a picture sent to me in the middle of the night from a friend in Australia of us ten years ago at some rooftop bar in Sydney! I got huge pangs for my friend and Australia 😄I haven't seen her, or heard from her much in the last ten years, so it's been nice to catch up. I actually thought I had dreamt the email 😄
Today

  • borrowed the big ladders from (other) sibling over the weekend - so need to do the last bits before they go home
  • one sleep before the loft is done and need to do last bits of emptying of loft today (that actually won't be me I will be standing supportively at the bottom of the ladder, making supportive noises)
  • I just feel like sitting and reading a book today, but, well, work. My laptop is conspiring for me to have a day off as it keeps locking me out. It's a sign.
  • in the spirit of leaving a room better, take upstairs all my clean laundry and then leave that room better by hanging them up.
  • update finance spreadsheet as big bills have gone out today
  • tried another pink paint sample - last one too raspberry, this one may be too medical - it is more sticking plaster than plaster plaster
  • I need to order some more wood filler.
  • once the loft is done and we are confident there is no more dirt to be spread around the house, we will do a big clean and paint refresh.
  • Super curious about noises coming from next door - the estate agents are in, and we are pondering if they are trying to get the house into some state for painting and photos or someone has actually bought it. Just scratched the itch and it is still up from sale, although the price has dropped. OMG the photos. peeling wallpaper and moldy walls!

I need a lie down after reading Havoc's list, but maybe a trip to the shop to buy wine gums is in order, have a good one, SoE

FourSeasonsLobelia · 27/07/2026 11:20

Hi all- hope everyone is well. Our @WinterFrogs is okay- I've heard from her a few days back IRL and she is just taking a bit of a social media break for a little bit.

All okay here. It's great being in Oz but I am feeling homesick for my life in the UK!

Hugs to all. Thanks

Peridot1 · 27/07/2026 12:06

Thanks @FourSeasonsLobelia. I was a bit worried.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 27/07/2026 14:57

Thanks @FourSeasonsLobelia glad to hear that! Greetings to everyone else, we are at the airport ready to fly home (I mean my home, not our home, if that makes sense....? I feel there's a lot of immigrants on our thread so you know what I mean ☺️)

Hoovered quickly this morning before leaving, yesterday disposed of last bits of fridge food by either donating to olio, neighbours, or making a delicious pear and cardamom loaf (well, the H made the loaf to be fair). H also changed the sheets before we left so we can come home to a fresh bed.

Keep surviving the summer break 💪 💪

Peridot1 · 27/07/2026 16:40

Have a lovely time @SingleThreadJoiner2. The pear and cardamom loaf sounds yum. And I have pears that need using…. Will hunt out a recipe. And I know just what you mean about “home”. I left Dublin in 1987 and it’s still very much Home.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/07/2026 17:20

Had a bit of a catch-up read. Glad to know Winter is still here, just on a break. 😉

Rushing now to get dressed etc and kids ready as need to get my mum to hosp appt for a procedure. I was getting shouty, so sitting here for a moment to finish my coffee.
Have got kids watching a cartoon French vocab vid on YT.

Found you all

Just a quick hello from me. After deleting my account, ive rejoined (couldnt keep away during Love Island and the World Cup) so have been on and off

Will be back on for September

Summer holidays here - well have been since April. Have exhausted all play options and dd is BORED

When we go swimming, she barely jumps in the pool anymore. When we go to the sand pit or the beach, she makes her sandcastles with a straight face and a sigh 😩😩

So weve been exploring the city. Today was Coal Drops Yard, in Kings Cross. She had fun although was an expensive day! Doesn't need to be, just my shite planning!

Yesterday we took the DLR - its a driverless train which goes across East London (the docklands). So the kids can sit at the front of thr train and pretend to be the driver. Was fun for her until she had a meltdown (those are quite rare bless her)

Now its lots of sweeties, in front of the fan 😬

Hope youre all well and having lovely summers. @FourSeasonsLobelia so glad that your mum is home xx

Love to you all ❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/07/2026 22:10

Nice to see you @mumofoneisonozempic
Had been wondering if you and dc were okay. 💕

Just did a phone med appt with and for my mum with oncologist. Was pretty standard, no concerns.

Prior to the call I utilized the "what can I do in 15 mins?" strategy and folded and put away the clean and now dry clothes hanging on the shower curtain rod in the bathroom then washed the vacuum filters (one is line a foam sponge), balanced them on the drying rack and tidied up and put away the cleaning supplies. That had been a niggling task, so I'm glad it's now done.
I keep staring at a wall in my living room that needs re-painting. It's only been since September '23 or so that I painted the other walls. 🙄

Morning everyone,
Feeling worn out here, ready for a good break. I'm reading the Y10 threads about dc working through the summer, I haven't dared suggest that to dc1. I can imagine it would bomb as an idea.
Today I need to return a top after I find the receipt, put a wash on and work. First breakfast and then coffee.
Hello @mumofoneisonozempic - hope the fan and sweets helped.
You are amazing @Mumtobabyhavoc - your lists always leave me in awe.

watchPhone · 30/07/2026 16:53

Morning. Nice to see you back @mumofoneisonozempic I was also wondering about autumnangel the other day as she has not been around for a while.
Today

  • loft finally done and we've already chucked a load of stuff up there. Sibling will go up later and tidy it up.. I did pop my head up to see the space so only realised then that the whole roof space is divided into 2 with a dividing wall and only a 3 foot square hole at the top of the wall to get from one very small space to the other bigger area - very strange, but thankfully has put paid to the idea of a full loft conversion. I knew there was a wall up there I thought it was one you could walk around 😄like a partition.
  • need to have a recycling of coffee pods session - DONE
  • gym session down - hard going today and then a class later
  • see if indoor ladders could be stored outside - DONE
  • hope the new plant supports I ordered from Amazon do indeed support my plants. I hope they arrive soon - I am very excited to sort out my big droopy plants. 7 stops away; it's like christmas.
  • Need to make this room better by taking my swimming kit out and put it in the washing machine
  • SpiritDoggo needs a walk when work is done - DONE
that is all for now, have a good one, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/07/2026 22:46

Thinking about that pear and cardamon loaf posted about earlier this week. Who was that again??? I will need to scroll back. I'm wondering if it can be made like an old-fashioned upside-down cake? I'm in a bit of a retro recipe phase: pineapple upside-down cake, for example, is on my list and I came across a bread recipe I think I'll try (and report back to you all). 😌

Took my mum to hosp appt to see specialist who wants my mum on the IV antibiotics another 3 weeks, is adding another one by IV, then a follow-up scan, then a follow-up appt.
So. There's summer. 😵‍💫
Appt was at 9, we were almost 10mins late, doctor was another half-hour late, then hosp pharmacy took over an hour to deliver an IV for my mum to do while there as doctor wanted to monitor 1st dose of new medication. So, it was just over three hours.
God home, made lunch fir everyone; git my mum in the other IV, dealt with pharmacy re delivery of meds and supplies for tomorrow them hospital again to clarify instructions.
Have now got two sleeping dc with me, my mum napping in her room and hopefully I'll doze off for a bit, too. 🤞

Task for today was using the wand-vacuum in kitchen, breakfast area and a couch and dc helped with that. Managed a load of laundry last night after dinner. And unloaded dishwasher.

@Mumtobabyhavoc the pear and cardamom cake was mentioned by @SingleThreadJoiner2. I thought it sounded nice and I have pears to use up but only got as far as thinking that really.

Your mum seems to be going through a lot medically. And you by association obviously!

@watchPhone - how do you recycle your coffee pods? I know Nespresso take their own but we use other brands.

Been a quiet few days here. Been doing the bare minimum really. Which has been nice!

Just been for a walk, have towels from my bathroom washing, dishwasher is on and I’m having a quick coffee. I need to wash the kitchen floor and change the filter in the kettle. Want to tidy utility room surfaces too.

And then I need to start a big shoe clear out. I keep getting seed corns (how glamorous!) in one spot on my left foot despite going to a chiropodist a few times. Had a thought it might be from particular shoes so did some AI research last night and have a plan going forward as it is definitely my shoes. In particular some Birkenstock look alikes and a pair of Flip flops I wear around the house in summer. So two new pairs of Fitflop shoes ordered plus some expensive insoles for my trainers and some foot cream. I have lost a lot of weight over the last few years so older pairs of Birkenstocks are now not fitting in certain places apparently. And I’ve lost the fat pads on the soles of my feet. Who knew?

Happy Friday all.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 31/07/2026 13:10

Here it is @Mumtobabyhavoc and others!
https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/recipe/conference-pear-and-cardamom-loaf-cake

@Peridot1 podcycle (I think that's the name?) do all sorts of coffee pod recycling, you can drop them off at Tesco or in my council at the recycling centre too.

Greetings to all and solidarity to those having difficulties at home.
It's D's actual birthday today, I can't believe we have a 7yo already!! She's having a great time at the beach 🏖️

watchPhone · 31/07/2026 13:24

We have the Dulalit EcoPress™ Aluminium Capsule Recycler it’s a tenner and it’s very satisfying to separate the pod from the coffee and chuck the grounds on the garden 🤣 and then rinse and dump the pods into normal recycling. I used to be carrying carrier bags full of pods into the Nespresso shop in a very classy manner.

Peridot1 · 31/07/2026 14:39

Thanks @SingleThreadJoiner2 - both for the recipe and the recycling info. Am not near a Tesco unfortunately.

Thanks @watchPhone. Will investigate. Reusing the coffee grounds in the garden would be good too.

RunningKatie · 31/07/2026 15:49

Our work coffee pods can be dropped at Morrisons too so I've heard, sadly the magic pod recycling fairy seems AWOL along with the dishwasher emptying fairy.
I've just discovered the Boots recycling scheme and am stashing all dh's medicine blister packs to earn £'s for an overpriced advent calendar for me.
I've just tackled the ironing and taken ddog out. It's time for a late afternoon mug of tea now, maybe a micro nap too if I can get away with it.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 31/07/2026 23:20

Oooh pear and cardamom cake, that sounds good!

I might make banana cake today. We are still away and DS1 has stopped eating (3 days now) I think because out of his routine, a little bit of stress etc. But he loves banana cake and I’m sure the mother will like it also- especially if I put in chocolate chips, which all good cakes ought to have IMO.

So good to see you again @mumofoneisonozempic

You have so much on your plate right now @Mumtobabyhavoc Thanks

@SingleThreadJoiner2 congrats to DD and to you on the 7th birthday!! I know what you mean when Dcs have birthdays, you think how did it happen! I’m envious of you all at the beach. We woke up to frost here about 20 minutes ago. I hope the summer isn’t over before we get home… in 3 weeks.

Not much news here. The parents have a home that always looks like a show home (it was actually a show home they bought at a discount after the estate had been built). There is clutter- books and beautiful paintings mainly (my mother is a gifted artist)- but everything is In Its Place and they both do the technique I wish to emulate of ‘Don’t put something down, put it away’. So I’m hoping to get into that sort of groove I can take back to my own cluttered home.

I’m missing home though obviously and my friends. I facetimed my friends yesterday which was a tonic. And I thought how lucky I am to have friends I miss!

Hugs to all. Hope everyone is well and fine, and loved ones also.

Mumtobabyhavoc · Yesterday 00:04

Banana cake with chic chips is obviously the way to go Lobelia. Three days is a long time to go without eating. 🤔 Hope it's nothing.
Thanks for the recipe Single and Happy Birthday to your dc. 🥳

I think I saw an interview with the guy that invented the coffee pod. He was full of regret due to the amount of waste that has followed.

Another too-busy day here. Non-stop for almost 6 hours from waking to getting home from kids' dental appt. I was very shouty this morning. I need to figure out something as I can't go on like this. None of us can.

It's sunny and 26c here with a breeze. Perfect, actually.

Morning all.

Banana and chocolate chip cake sounds good @FourSeasonsLobelia. Hope it tempts DS to eat. How is your mum doing now?

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I feel guilty about coffee pod use I have to say. Although we don’t go through that many. I have one coffee most days and DS has maybe two. DH drinks instant. So we are not too bad but I’ll feel better recycling them. I ordered the Dualit recycling thing that @watchPhone recommended.

Forgot to say hi to @mumofoneisonozempic. Good to see you back.

A bit of a slow start here today as we went to the pub for a quick early dinner and met friends and ended up staying till late. And I didn’t eat enough. So a bit fragile this morning.

I have some washing on and the dishwasher is on too. Might do some pottering in the garden later. Other than that I might just read in the garden this afternoon. And make a decision between two new lampshades. DH hates the one I like the most. And I know it’s a bold choice. So do I play safe? Decisions decisions!

Have a great day all.

RunningKatie · Yesterday 21:03

Go bold @Peridot1! I feel like I always play it safe, nearly went mad on bathroom tiles for once but apparently the wall would had to be strengthened to hold the weight. So annoying being sensible.
We've been to the beach today, so good for the soul.
Hope you're ok @Mumtobabyhavoc - you're carrying - it's so understandable that you're getting a bit shouty.
