Morning all.

Sounds like a good time in the garden @Mumtobabyhavoc.

I did a bit in the garden yesterday afternoon. Planted one remaining plant. Deadheaded the roses. Watered all the pots. Need to sort them though as the water just goes straight through.

Today so far I’ve done the dishwasher and kitchen. Have laundry on. Emptied bin and recycling bins ready to go out this evening. Have one soaking so will finish washing that in a bit. Went for a walk. Just having a coffee and will go and do some sorting in the small spare bedroom. Also need to tidy the hallway as it’s a bit untidy.

Gardening this afternoon will be cutting back salvias and weeding and mulching a bed. Or two.

Also have a load of cardboard boxes to breakdown for recycling.

Have a great day all.

WinterFrogs · 30/06/2026 11:16

Morning all! It's all happening round here isn't it?
Glad to hear the goat has a new home!

I have admin to do today and I know i will feel better once I start. Instead i am procrastinating by cleaning the house.

I need to do a brain dump too!

Peridot1 · 30/06/2026 12:44

A brain dump definitely helps @WinterFrogs. Helps me to focus.

watchPhone · 30/06/2026 13:17

drum roll, found debit card. @RunningKatie - try the bottom of a bed! 😃

I would love goats and shetland ponies roaming round where I live.

Had my swim yesterday - pool was busy but it was good to see it finally up and running after a very long closure. It's 5 minutes away from home so, so happy that it's an option.

Today

  • filling in some gaps in bathroom door frames with wood filler and then do a paint touch up and then sealant around the skirting boards and door frame if needed and then everything can go back in the shed.
  • need another quote for loft - the first guys said there was a (empty) tank up there which they could dismantle and take away - but would need someone else to remove a pipe from said tank #confused. Another quote would be good anyhow.
  • need to buy some gym kit - I have one set that I wash after every session. It's a bit daft because I do a lot of exercise - Done
  • Need to sign and return some paperwork - I'll get it done and by the door in case I can get to post office in a bit
  • Despite a costco & a sainsburys & a M&S shop at the weekend, the cupboards are very bare - so a shop after work is in order
  • need to find some accommodation for trip to Cornwall in August - it's slim pickings and with this weather I am dreading the drive down with SpiritDoggo
That's all, I am procrastinating and need to prepare for some sessions this afternoon, have a good one, SoE.
SingleThreadJoiner2 · 30/06/2026 13:26

Hello all. Some activity here too. Packed three bags of clothing donations, for H to take to the charity shop, and bought a leaving present for a friend who is moving to a different continent next month 😕

Also spent much longer than necessary sorting out things with builders.

Actual employment has suffered somewhat, will have to catch up tonight...

WinterFrogs · 30/06/2026 14:27

We have an empty tank in the loft too @watchPhone. I tend to think that it's too complicated to remove but of course you just need the right people who know what they're doing.

I'm still dashing madly in all directions with only a clean bathroom and hoovered carpets to show for it. I want to sort out the freezer and batch cook in time for the next heatwave ( next week?) Turned phone off for a couple of hours and turned it back on to a torrent of missed calls and some messages. None vitally important but it shows where my time goes.

I have potatoes threatening to sprout so they need peeling. Something potatoey for tea then. I need to get DH under control with the food shopping. He won't go with a list, or if he does he goes off piste. I'm thinking of doing an online shop myself this week instead. He just doesn't consider food waste at all. And I loathe supermarkets, so I just let him do it, and i shouldn't.

I hear you about the mail @Mumtobabyhavoc. I am feeling it, not with my mail but my mother's. It must be tackled though. I have a feeling that the knot in my belly won't go until I tackle it and have a plan of action.

Must get on. Hugs all round xx

FourSeasonsLobelia · 30/06/2026 17:28

Hi all. Hope everyone is well. I’d love a goat! ( and a pony) . Not sure I’ve sorted the HMRC thing @Peridot1 .. I got a phone call from them which I assumed was a scam cal.. I said ‘how do I know you are from HMRc? Sorry can’t talk anyway I’m in the B&Q car park’. Anyway, it was them and it is partially sorted and they were terribly nice about it. I fly out to oz finally at the end of this week and am rushing all about the place as DH now can’t come back from working so sorting out everything that needs to be sorted with that.. catteries, and life admin he can’t deal with. But I do feel we move slightly forward each day at least.

hugs to everyone. If our own @mumharassed and @mumofoneAloneandwell is lurking, hope you are well.

love to all. ❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/07/2026 05:26

I just spent about an hour cleaning the deck. Wiped down the railing and then strategically splashed/threw several buckets of hot water on the deck to wash it. 😁
Old lights taken down and red and white lights put up for Canada Day tomorrow and the rest of summer. Have also put a Canadian flag on each of the two corners of the deck.
It's quite cloudy and windy.
Need to wash sheets tomorrow.
Didn't get to paper mail today- again. 😔

WinterFrogs · 01/07/2026 08:02

Hi all! Waves to @FourSeasonsLobelia That sounds like A Lot!

You are an inspiration @Mumtobabyhavoc honestly! I like the way you mark all the events that are going on. I used to have a work colleague who managed that. Nothing went uncelebrated. I always felt I was doing well if everyone was fed and had clean underwear. Mother's nursing home is all over everything and I think it's a lovely way to keep the residents in touch with what's going on in the world, and not just via telly.

Having said that, I know mum has been glued to the tennis! She's fed up with the football though.

How is DC doing @RunningKatie?

Everything is feeling a bit more manageable today. I don't have to be anywhere as far as I know so I have got started all fresh and early.

Oh, and I've just had a 'could you just' from work requiring a drive to nearest town...

Best I get dressed! See you all later 😘

Peridot1 · 01/07/2026 12:19

How is your mum doing @FourSeasonsLobelia? Good, luck with all the running around. Lots of stuff to try to remember I’m sure.

That’s annoying @WinterFrogs when you thought you didn’t have to be anywhere.

I am feeling much calmer. I’m pottering getting stuff done slowly. Both in the house and the garden. Aiming for some normal day to day house work, some house re-setting and some gardening each day. Which is keeping things moving forward.

So yesterday I put some bedding away in the small spare bedroom plus some work stuff of DS’s that needed to go somewhere. It’s mostly beer and glasses for one of his brands. 🙄 No idea why we are storage! Also vacuumed that room. In the garden we have some pots that had totally dried out so that water was just running straight through so I dug through them and added some water retention granules, gave them a good soaking and put much on. I did five. Have quite a few more to do…..

Today - cleaner is here doing bathrooms and hall, stairs and landing. I’ve stripped a bed. Did some normal laundry. Did a slighter deeper than normal kitchen clean. Vacuumed kitchen and sitting area and wiped down dining table. Need to put random shoes away in hallway and vacuum there. Garden will be more pot rescuing.

DH is going out late afternoon to watch the football with friends in the village. I could go but don’t often get a night in on my own so will do that. Will probably sit in the garden reading my book.

WinterFrogs · 01/07/2026 15:45

I am happy to hear that you are feeling calmer as well @Peridot1 🫂 My 'could you just' errand ended up taking all morning, but I am feeling quite accomplished now. I am hoping that I get a free day tomorrow, but it could be Friday now.

Just about to start doing what I was going to do before I got the call. I'm resolutely ignoring the garden in favour of food and the house.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/07/2026 05:20

Winter, it's not that much, really. 🙂

Everyone has been so busy today! 👏

I took the kids to a suburb, New Westminster,
to Queen's Park for Canada Day. I'm trying to do something different each year.
It wasn't busy, I think due to soccer on tv and the overcast sky. We arrived when things just opened at 2pm and managed the bouncy castle, mini golf, Korean deep-fried chicken, music, kids found some other kids to run around with for a while, played a bit in the park and then on the way out lined up for a turn to sit in the driver's seat of a city recycling truck and the kids got to honk the horn and pull the lever to raise a bin and tip it into the truck. Havoc was super excited for that and loved it. When it was Baby's turn and I was taking pics/video suddenly the worker assisting Baby turned to a colleague calling him to go assist. I turned and there was Havoc, inside the roped off area where the bin on the truck was being lifted and lowed yelling to "Lift It!" and laughing. It took me a second to register it was my kid then I ran in and took Havoc out, apologized, got a pic of Baby and then we left. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Tasks:
tied up and took out garbage;
vacuumed;
vacuumed a couch;
stopped at Whole Foods on the way home;
made dinner (salmon burgers, prawns, roasted asparagus; bought cherry pie for dessert; picked lettuce and mint from the garden for my massive dinner salad with salmon and prawns);
cleaned kitchen.

Have got a full belly and am very slow moving now. Time to get kids to bed, though.

Happy Canada Day @Mumtobabyhavoc. Sounds like a great day out. Laughing at Havoc though. Aptly named! And yum to cherry pie….

I had such a lovely evening last night. DH went to some friends to watch the football - I was invited but decided to stay home. Made a halloumi pasta bake for DS and I for dinner and then sat in the garden reading my book and having a few glasses of wine. When it got a bit chilly I watered plants and came in. Was so peaceful.

Am about to have a quick shower and load the car up with some charity stuff to drop off on my way into town to get my haircut. Trying a new hairdresser so a bit nervous. Have loaded the dishwasher and it’s on and hung up some laundry. Not sure what else will get done today. Half an hour in the garden this afternoon maybe.

Have a great day all.

WinterFrogs · 02/07/2026 15:59

Oh my, Havoc! What a character! 💕 Glad all ok, even if you did have to leave in a hurry!

I love the sound of your evening @Peridot1 😊

I have been extremely busy at work all morning. But tomorrow I definitely get a day off 😁 She says, hopefully! There is always something to do!

I have gone off piste with my cooking, to DH's surprise and hopefully delight. Having said that, we are having leftover bean chilli with baked potatoes tonight. But I have started looking at my spice rack and decided that there are a lot of simple recipes out there that I can start doing. Get a bit fed up with those long winded ones on line where they do an explanation of how they came about the recipes and who they were with and what everyone was wearing at the time.
Just give me the damn recipe and stop wittering! Bbc good food is quite useful, and more concise. I am writing a list of things I need to use up all the bits and bobs in the freezer. I aspire to be one of those people who uses a freezer usefully and doesn't lose things or let them get freezer burn. Blasted DH will insist on filling it up with oven chips and ice lollies. I'm going to have to stage an intervention!

I have just downloaded an app that's supposed to train your brain. It's called Elevate. So I have that and the flylady app to keep me on track. Thanks to another thread asking the question, I have also discovered I can do two press ups ( proper ones) It's taken several months of a daily short strength training routine which includes planks and wall press ups. I'm all out to try to use it all before I lose it!

No wonder the washing up sometimes doesn't get done 😂

I hope you are all having a lovely Thurday 🫂

Feeling a bit overwhelmed. Just spoke with one of my mum's specialists. My mum has a very resistant strain of e-coli causing a liver abscess and will need daily in hosp iv antibiotic treatment for 2-4 weeks starting next week. The logistics... means packing us all up daily for the trip, rearranging or clearing calendar dates ... 😵‍💫

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 02/07/2026 20:26

Oh @Mumtobabyhavoc - so sorry to hear this, your poor mum. It sounds a logistical nightmare, I wish we were all closer to chip in with support.
Dc2 is now being referred to ENT for the possible ear infection etc., dh came home with a great scare story for me to make me feel like the worst parent in the world. Helpful not.
I found my notebook and lists, I'd been clearing up the spare bed and scooped up throws and blankets which it had hidden in.
2 weeks to the school holidays, whilst it can't come soon enough I am concerned about levels of screen time and how to keep them under control. I need a plan and slightly more sociable teens!

WinterFrogs · 02/07/2026 20:41

@RunningKatie I hope you are able to get the the bottom of the ear infection. Good that you have a referral to ENT. I hope the appointment comes round soon. Wishing you all, all the best 💐

Peridot1 · 02/07/2026 22:58

Sorry to her that about your Mum @Mumtobabyhavoc. Sounds like it will be a huge juggling act for you. Do you have any other family support or help? Hope so.

@RunningKatie - hope ear issues get sorted. What is it about DH’s helpful comments at times.

Good luck wth the food/cooking plans @WinterFrogs!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/07/2026 23:41

Thanks everyone. 🩷
Fingers crossed a nurse will come in daily and awaiting word on that. Otherwise hoping we can do it at home which means hosp appt for first two session days to learn how.
It's just me keeping the ship afloat. ⛵️

Katie, ear infections are awful. Kids are often prone to them having smaller canals, lots of earwax and the usual childhood viruses. And, diagnosis is challenging and complex. Do not think you are at fault in any way. 💐💐💐

Have got Paw Patrol on in French for Havoc. Must be more diligent with daily French to prepare for school in September. 🤨
Have just put a large load on laundry on.
I am determined to get some mail sorted before I go to bed. 😵‍💫😩
Need to run out to meet a parent to collect $ for an event I've arranged for a Havoc and a bunch of kids.
Baby juuuuust fell asleep for late nap.

Hope your mum is better very soon @Mumtobabyhavoc x such a worry and a stress for you. Thinking of you. ❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/07/2026 08:46

Thanks for the love everyone. 🙂🩷
Frustrating day and evening here dominated by calls to coordinate home nursing. Left hand doesn't seem to know what the right is doing. 🙄

I managed to wash and hang up most of the clothes from the laundry basket. Will strip a bed tomorrow and wash sheets; likely wash towels; and plan, yet again, to get to the nagging stack of paper mail. 🤦‍♀️

Made a yummy dinner of pesto and feta salmon that I put into toasted garlic brioche burger buns; roasted potatoes; and streamed cauliflower. The kids loooooved the cauliflower. 😂😂😂🤷‍♀️
They got Oreos and strawberry froyo after.
😇😇
I've put September's school schedule into my calendar. 🤓 ... I noticed it was sent to me last week, though 😵‍💫 Must check other email address more often. 🤨

Morning all.

Woken up early with some really strange noises from outside. I think it was birds in the guttering above my bedroom windows. Might be a sign that the gutters need clearing out.

Have unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher - cooked a complicated salad dish from the book I mentioned last week. Very nice but would do it differently next time. And DH cooked for DS so almost every pot in the house was used.

Have washed a bed throw and hung that outside. Now washing fleeces that were hung in utility room so I can clear that a bit.

Did a charity shop run yesterday and they took everying except a rug. Will put that up on Freecycle.

Still fiddling with interiors. But walked into the sitting area this morning and thought “yes - happy with that”. Have ordered one final cushion to balance other sofa and that’s done. Need to buy a rug for under the dining table but will take my time.

About to go to PT session and then have a guy coming over with samples of solar film for the windows to try to keep the house cooler.

Have a good day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/07/2026 19:09

Which salad did you make Peridot? What made it so complicated?
