We are a kind and welcoming group supporting each other in our daily tasks to organize and declutter and stay on top of all that needs doing. We share our accomplishments and brain dump our to-do lists in a friendly chat over coffee manner. 😊☕️

I'm at the spray park with my dc and (looks like) a school group on last day. Soccer is s heartbreaker so far for us: 2-nil for the Swiss.

Oh that’s not good @Mumtobabyhavoc! 😢

I would love to try reformer Pilates but can’t justify the cost at the moment. Good luck @RunningKatie.

Hot hot hot here. 31 indoors. And trying to open the windows in the utility room just as I was going to bed (which you may remember I was supposed to tidy) I knocked a vase onto the floor along with a can of beer which exploded everywhere. So a clear up operation and annoyed at myself. It was a vase I have had for maybe almost 30 years bought at a ceramics factory in Vietnam when we lived there. Pah. Cheap as chips but I liked it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/06/2026 01:47

Awww Peridot sorry about the vase. The whole neighbourhood would've heard my reaction had it been me. 🙈
It's also 30c inside here. The fans are doing a great job, though, and it is very comfortable.

Katie, hope your dc is still ok? I read and posted on a couple of the threads about whether, or not, schools should close in extreme heat. It can be quite dangerous. Good for you to join Pilates. Let us know how it goes!

Winter, I don't know a lot about sports, but I really enjoy watching athlete compete at their best. Canada lost, but I think we play another game.

Temp is supposed to drop for a few days with rain. We might get thunder showers.
Baby is "mopping" (it's not wet) and has just lost balance and went bum first through the screen on the deck which is already broken (Havoc circa 2022, I think).

I've now taken the mop away...

Dinner was pasta w feta, spinach, chicken and tomatoes for the kids plus a few slices of cucumber and bell pepper. I made an awesome salad of bell pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, spinach, mint, feta, chicken and a Mandarin orange dressed with oil and vinegar then seasoned with just a bit of salt. It was so satisfying. So were the 4 Oreos I ate after. 😂🤷‍♀️🙈

Just had a Boots own brand AH and I have had to lie down after 5 mins @WinterFrogs 🤣

Did you sleep all night? 🙏 Hope the itching has eased!

WinterFrogs · 25/06/2026 08:14

Hello! Sorry about the vase @Peridot1 I think i'd be more upset about beer sprayed everywhere!
I am functioning quite well till about 4pm when it all gets a bit too much. I think i need to make a decent salad now so it's ready for dinner time as even that feels like too much later on.
GD likes to use the mop too and she's quick! So before I've had a chance to grab it she's off squirting the carpet. I hide it now!

When you talk about your kids I think of Bluey @Mumtobabyhavoc 🤣

Hope DC is ok @RunningKatie Another day off school? We have a teacher in the family and they are really struggling with the heat and are very relieved when the kids go home. They still work the full day but can open windows wider etc, plus the lack of bodies helps cool the rooms down a tad.

I have a car without air con today as DH and I have swapped as he's picking littlest up from school. Also a longer drive for him. Time he got his air con fixed- it's like @FourSeasonsLobelia's and is very half hearted.

Must run hoover round, get yesterday's washing in then off to work.

Hopefully this is the last of the furnace days for a while!

WinterFrogs · 26/06/2026 07:25

A sleepy wave from me today 😴 Very poor night's sleep. It just didn't really cool down at all! And something has bitten me and it's itchy. Feeling for my fluffy cat. Least we can shower. There's a lovely thread in litter tray called 'my cat is melting' and he looks like that.
I have no need to go out today. So plan to get house routines done early then some admin from the coolest room.

Yesterday was a fail, food wise. DH and littlest did drive through Macdonalds. I did coke and ice lollies, and a packet of peanuts.

Do not recommend attempting wordle or connections at 2am unless you're a night owl. My starter word was almost an anagram, and it still took far too long to get it on 4. I lost my 6 day streak on connections and it wasn't even hard.

Hope you're all ok xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/06/2026 08:11

Listening to rain pelt the window. It's lovely.
Had the kids out to a FIFA Watch Party this evening which is a free pop up with food trucks and a massive screen. It was very lightly misting rain and 10 degrees cooler than yesterday and this past week, so the venue was only about 1/3 full. The kids had fun running around and a friend joined us, so that was nice. Time for sleep.

Winter, sleepless nights are awful. Take it easy today. 💐

It didn’t cool down at all in our house last night @WinterFrogs. My bedroom was 28 when I went to bed and 27 when I woke up.

That salad sounds delicious @Mumtobabyhavoc. I need to go shopping for some salad bits and fruit - may try to recreate it.

I am now investigating solar film to be fitted to the windows to try to help a bit. I also have ordered an external shade for a velux window in the roof.

I spent a lovely (too hot to do anything else) afternoon yesterday with ChatGPT helping me “style” the sitting area and kitchen. It has now banned me from the John Lewis website! It has decided my interiors style is “Classic English Country with pops of Mediterranean colours”. If that’s a thing! 😄

Too hot to think about doing much at the moment. Might nip to supermarket later. DH has lost 20kg in last year and finally got around to sorting all the clothes he had stored away that didn’t fit. So I’m working my way through washing them. He’s a nightmare for hanging on to things. There is a t-shirt from a stag do he went on in 1990………..

Will spend the afternoon reading. Seem to have gotten my reading mojo back. And then it’s the pub for dinner.

Have a great Friday all.

WinterFrogs · 26/06/2026 18:06

Sounds like a fun evening @Mumtobabyhavoc and I have rain envy. I might take storm sounds on spotify to bed with me tonight. We've already decided upon separate rooms tonight. The red alert moved to the south east where we are yesterday. I spoke to a work contact on the phone earlier and he said their south west red zone had left them and moved to us, and said it feel noticeably cooler where he is, so I'm hoping there's an improvement here soon 🙏

@Peridot1 I watched bedroom temp fall from 30c to 28c across yesterday evening, and like you was 27c this morning. I do enjoy reading about your interior design endeavours 😊

Did end up leaving the house today. Braved a shady woodland walk with GD and dh. School closed again. My work is flexi but he's taken a couple of afternoons off to help her parents out as they are both flat out. Lots of sunscreen, hats and water, but still have a headache now. We've eaten better today though. Trying to be mellow about all this as people are still working outside, and DS is in a hotter country than us and is not complaining despite lack of air conditioning in the apartment.

Managed to hoover and complete a laundry cycle. Salad and cold meat for our tea. Nothing else. In survival mode now.

Best wishes to all!

Huh! My DH sees your DH's 1990 stag do tshirt and raises that he wears his Dad's work shirts from 1970! 'Only in the garden or working in the garage, mind' he claims. [rubbish]

I think I mentioned before he is a total hoarder. His mum died in 2002 and she has not had bee hives since the late 80s but we still have a jar of her homemade honey in our freezer that he won't let go of.

I am in mid-panic trying to sort everything before I leave for Oz and to sort out DH as well as he is still working away. He is back tomorrow for a day, then needs to be back on the 4th so is also trying to sort things out to make it okay for him to return. In addition I am having a terrible trouble trying to do something esential for HMRC (again). I went through this in January and that was all sorted but it seems that one department does not talk with the other department and the second department refuses to believe I exist. (Well, they believe I exist if it comes to paying tax, but not much else it seems). I am tearing my hair out and panicking and having a not-so-gentle freak out at regular intervals.

But for now.. it's time to make curry. Not sure where my mind was when I chose that for tonight's dinner.

Love to all. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/06/2026 23:01

Sympathy for everyone struggling with the heat. 💐 Heat domes aren't fun at all. 🥵

It's been raining pretty much all day here and is 16c. It's very refreshing.

I've vacuumed and that's about it. After my mum's med appt yesterday, a phone appt for her with a surgeon today and helping her with a bath, hair (dyed it) and her exercises I feel done. Lots to do, though. 😔
I'm procrastinating heavily.

🫂 to you @FourSeasonsLobelia . That's a lot to do!
Also 🫂 for you @Mumtobabyhavoc doing so much for mum and the children.

💐 💐

We had quite the storm last night which felt very refreshing. It was very much louder than the sleep rainstorm that i was playing. Still got a headache though and suspect that with the wet ground and forecast of high temperatures again, that it will feel humid.

I read A Town Like Alice recently, about the women being captured and marched through Malaya in WW2.. It's a novel but based on a true story, and very humbling. I think of it when I'm getting all irritable about the weather. And lazy. So lazy!

So finishing my coffee, having a shower and attempting to do some bits around the house this morning!

Have a great one all xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/06/2026 09:09

Thanks, Winter.
I'm not sure I could read something so heavy...

I managed to get an admin task done and now need to arrange delivering some items and collecting cash payment to 6 people which I think will be a nightmare to coordinate as people are slow to reply to mssgs.
I also need to pick-up the cake I ordered for Baby to celebrate a half birthday.

It's 13c and I need to get to sleep. I'm in a weird and counter-productive scrolling phase atm.

Sweet dreams @Mumtobabyhavoc 😴

Peridot1 · 27/06/2026 11:17

Morning all.

@FourSeasonsLobelia - DH still has his school sports kit. He’s 65…….

Sympathies re HMRC. That sounds incredibly frustrating. Presumably you can’t email cc-ing both departments on the one email? Too sensible for them?

@WinterFrogs - I’m quite enjoying my interior design endeavours too! It’s making me quite happy. An old friend who I am only in touch with on FB is an amazing artist and she put a photo of a painting she has going into a gallery showing next week on her FB page. I fell in love with it. It’s a beautiful still life of some cherries. So it’s now going into the showing with a red sold sticker on……! I know where I want to put it. But it’s not very big. So needs a similar one to put underneath….. So I am going to ask her to do another similar one for me. One purchase seems to lead to another so easily! 😄

Anyway. Enough waffling.

Have a mountain of DH’s washing to fold so he can put it all away. And probably some more to do. Have done a towel wash and it’s just finished so need to deal with that. Today’s extra task was vacuuming window sills to get rid of all the dead insects.

Not planning on much else. Maybe a bit of gardening. And definitely some reading in the shade this afternoon.

Have a great Saturday everyone.

Peridot1 · 27/06/2026 14:32

@WinterFrogs have just been reading about a podcast/system called Rock The Housework. And I have seen The Organized Mom mentioned. Plus A Slob Comes Clean. I answered some quick questions on AI and for me it recommended Flylady. Which I know you follow. I used to follow her years ago but stopped. Found the emails overwhelming. Do they still do that? I like the idea of a routine. I need to declutter bedrooms. Linen cupboard needs a sort out. And due to the distraction of my interior design shenanigans certain areas are out of control.

WinterFrogs · 27/06/2026 15:17

Hi @Peridot1 I used to get the emails years ago and i am with you on the overwhelm of that. She's got quite a decent website now, and i have the app just for the reminders. I know it inside out now really, so i just need prompts. I do find it very soothing. There's a flylady thread over in housekeeping which is a bit like this one. I keep an eye on it and ran it in March ( maybe April) but i had loads on and really struggled with the commitment. But they treat it with the gentle humour and that it deserves. Based on your last sentence I just know that you are a lot like me...so it'll probably suit you too!

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 27/06/2026 15:22

@Peridot1 that painting sounds lovely!

School fair was today. Started setting up before 9. Finished clearing up around 2.30. Now collapsed in bed. But huge success and managed the heat well we thought.

Need to do some laundry though...

Peridot1 · 27/06/2026 15:29

Thanks @WinterFrogs - I’ll check out the website. I do remember finding it helpful years ago. Just being told which room to do is what I need. Otherwise I wander around aimlessly. Or just do the basics I do every day and the rest gets out of control.

@FourSeasonsLobelia - it is beautiful. Would post a picture but it’s on my friend’s fb page.

Well done! You must be knackered and sweaty you poor thing. Rest well - can the laundry wait till tomorrow?

On the flylady thread they often post daily babysteps which is handy. The person running the thread posts useful links most days so you don't need to get lost with all the options on the website.
I like the routines and the daily missions ( it really helps when you are not quite sure where to start) There's a constant reminder to jump in where everyone else is, not try to get caught up, and to look after yourself while doing it.

Some of her essays are a bit twee so i take very little notice of those 🤣

WinterFrogs · 27/06/2026 16:12

She's quite bossy but honestly she's not wrong! I bring you an extract of today's essay

@SingleThreadJoiner2 - sorry I tagged @FourSeasonsLobelia instead of you earlier for some reason!

Peridot1 · 27/06/2026 22:23

@WinterFrogs - that resonates so much! I actually put my house details into ChatGpt to try to meld my house with Flylady and make it work for me. Perfectly of course! Of course I just need to bloody start! 😄

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 27/06/2026 22:24

No problem @Peridot1! I understood ☺️

@WinterFrogs I ended up putting a load on after a nap. at least I know school uniform is ready for Monday and can rest easy!
