I am posting this as my thread tax. One of the loveliest posts I have ever read on here. I hope MNHQ don't mind me linking to it here. It will do your heart good.

😂

A fellow Labour Party member once described Wes Streeting to me as Zippy from Rainbow if he'd been radicalized by Mumsnet.

which is a very specific set of references but also disturbingly accurate.

So is that it, at least for now? Streeting has failed. No-one is rushing to offer Burnham their seat.

Wonder how the four who resigned are feeling?

My MP is one of those being a twat. I fully intend to write to him and ask this question when the dust has settled. How does he think causing instability and a rift with the party leadership is helping his constituents?
How is he intending to repair the damage?

Bit random this post - still a bit wired! So saw a street fight tonight with 2 young women being repeatedly thrown to the floor and into walls - it was all loud and aggressive. People walked on by - I asked a guy to help and he walked too - I ran over and shouted with my phone up but that was a fail ha - so called 999 and stood and reported to handler till cops arrived.

I am actually fed up with myself I just stood watching repeated violence, but I’m just more depressed tonight that many just walked on by. I just don’t know where I’m living sometimes 😞

MsJinks, you did the right thing and the only thing you realistically could have done. Please don't beat yourself up. At least you didn't walk on by.

What a horrible thing to witness. Have a hot drink or a stiff drink and try to unwind ❤️

PickAChew · 12/05/2026 23:36

I don't think you could have done any more without getting hurt yourself, @MsJinks

BIossomtoes · 13/05/2026 04:32

You did exactly the right thing @MsJinks. Nothing would have been any better if you’d been hurt as well.

Love the title Grin

Ds won his first international medal last night. Bronze in the 400m freestyle. Halo

You did what you could. You’d have been no help if you got hurt too.

you didn’t walk on by like many did.

Alexandra2001 · 13/05/2026 08:45

I hope Starmer sacks Streeting unless he comes out and fully backs the PM.

I didn't vote Labour to have petty drama every time the polls are poor.

Don't rate Starmer but the time for him to have gone was last year, on his own terms... maybe he'll go before the next GE but it needs to be done in an orderly way, not like this.

BIWI · 13/05/2026 08:52

Brilliant news @itsgettingweird - well done to him. And @MsJinks as others have said, you did absolutely the right thing. I hope you're feeling OK this morning.

We started watching the ITV series Secret Service last night, which is proving to be rather prescient. A bit too uncomfortably 'fiction merging with fact'. I just wish what is happening here and now really was fiction though.

I couldn’t agree more. Time for Starmer to make Major’s bastards speech.

LizzieW1969 · 13/05/2026 08:53

You definitely did the only thing you could do to help, @MsJinks. I agree that it’s very depressing that so many people just walked past. Hope you’re feeling better this morning.

BIWI · 13/05/2026 08:54

Oh, and in other news, our Pom friend has been dispatched (although apparently they have already deregged). To quote Becky:

We expect political discussions to be polarised by their nature but there's a difference between that and deliberately inflammatory behaviour.

Some Others would do well to remember that.

PickAChew · 13/05/2026 09:08

Now if only MNHQ weren't encouraging photos of nude teens, I would begin to have more faith in them.
