@countrygirl99 thinking of you and your family at this time. I am glad your DS was able to come and say his goodbyes 💐

A bit of a reshuffle is needed I reckon. Certainly Streeting and Mahmood. Cooper has disappointed me in general too (I’m not sure if she’s been agitating for Starmer to go, seems to be conflicting reports). Lisa Nandy needs replacing.

Happily see the back of Streeting and Mahmood.

It sounds utterly plausible that those chancers would take money in that way - which is bad whether it turns out to be true or not. Politics needs a real clear out

I agree - and I think that’s why some voters went Reform (others now Green) - they want something different and a bit more authentic.

Obviously, Farage is the last person to offer this but he blinds folk with his ‘man of the people’ act - very unfortunate and scary.

This could be a real scandal if true

So no resignation today and Wes seems to have left in a bit of a huff, without speaking to reporters.

That will disappoint those getting all excited for an imminent general election.

DuncinToffee · 12/05/2026 12:06

Telegraph has breaking news that Burnham has been spotted at Euston.

Wonder how many reporters they have dotted around various stations Confused

And 'no-one knows why he is in London' [excitement]

Eatinpeachesonthebeaches · 12/05/2026 12:29

Would be quite normal for a Mayor of Manchester to have in person meetings in London surely ?

DuncinToffee · 12/05/2026 12:43

That doesn't make for an exciting 'breaking news' headline

Alexandra2001 · 12/05/2026 13:12

So Jess Phillips has resigned..... media going potty over this... apart from she has a habit of resigning from a Starmer 'cabinet....

I hope he digs his heels in aka John Major, there is no alternative atm, Caroline West triggering this debacle was a huge mistake.

cardibach · 12/05/2026 13:51

I’m disappointed in Jess. Though apart from her work about VAWG I don’t have much time for her. She’s way to pally with the likes of Rees-Mogg and her behaviour when Labour lost under Corbyn was awful.

DuncinToffee · 12/05/2026 13:57

Anything to do with Harman's appointment?

Hello . Had lost track of these threads and MN seems to "400 bad request" for me the last few days.

Very sorry @countrygirl99 .

Another resignation. Victims minister Alex Davies Jones.

Miatta Fanbulleh who resigned this morning is said to be a think tank protégée of Ed Miliband

Sometimes I am glad I work full time so can switch off and deal with teenagers who actually are teenagers instead of adults behaving like them.

I am very sad that Jess Phillips has stood down but this isn't her first rodeo. I have no printable words for Wes.

I do have time for Jess, and in her letter she clearly set out the frustrations around policy implementation and his need to avoid incrementalism and be bolder.

I agree and if he is to stay he needs to be much bolder. If he showed more decisiveness, I think the public would respond positively (al la late Trump). But he's not showing any signs of this. Mores the pity.

I agree he needs to be bolder too, I’ve said it on here. They way to make him bolder is to stay in cabinet and push him to be bolder, not trigger the sort of drama that plays right into Farage’s hands. I can’t get past her behaviour when Labour lost the election and she was giggling and sniggering with Rees-Mogg I’m afraid. She does some good work, she gets terrible abuse, but I can’t respect her.

TemperanceWest · 12/05/2026 14:33

It is all about Wes, isn't it? Phillips I mean.
If they want Wes as leader, then Labour is done for.

Piggywaspushed · 12/05/2026 14:41

I don't think Jess is a Wes fan?

There was reporting from Scottish parliament the otehr day showing the new MSPs. The reporter was struck by how pally they all were even though they have such differing opinions. I think, perhaps, we except them to be politically 'on' all the time. I suspect the easiest way to deal with JRM is to humour him.

Oh, I get they have to get on in the workplace - god knows I’ve been friendly to colleagues I couldn’t stand over the years - but this was really unpleasant to watch. I can still remember it. She seemed gleeful Labour were doing so badly. As I recall she thought it was off camera but it wasn’t. Being pally has a time and a place. Election night is not it.

Piggywaspushed · 12/05/2026 14:46

Yes, you're probably right.

I think Jess and Wes are toast at the next election as it goes.
