Green Party under Polanski isn’t honest about anything much. Populist nonsense, just from the left instead of the right.

TemperanceWest · 22/05/2026 09:39

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2026 09:13

Green Party is not honest about why their Makersfield candidate stood down.

They claim personal reasons rather than his SM posts on Golders Green

That is really bad.

MsJinks · 22/05/2026 09:57

I have had some similar concerns re Green as Reform - as in lack of experience impacting governance - and unfortunately some of it seems evidenced with the Green’s also losing councillors, and now perhaps seeing some folk jumping on a bandwagon rather than being properly invested - oh and vetted!

I obviously would rather have the Greens every day of the week and they definitely don’t raise so many concerns or questions as Reform do in general. Just this point.

I am more than glad the rise of an alternative that people are seeking will also give Green votes as well as Reform - still more of us than them sorta thing - overall.

The MSM and important folk will never drop their agenda and bias though which I think is the largest impact on voting and government.

placemats · 22/05/2026 10:42

There's enough money in Reform to spend getting prospective candidates trained to be successful in local government but of course they'd rather the council tax payer foot the bill. Shameless grifters.

BIossomtoes · 22/05/2026 11:00

Reform has a huge amount of funding. You’re spot on @placemats.

TemperanceWest · 22/05/2026 11:45

Carla Denyer is taking leave of absence due to burnout. I wonder if all is not well behind the scenes for the Greens.

cardibach · 22/05/2026 11:57

I reckon I’d need to step back if my working day involved very much of Polanski. I think he’s very different from what they’ve had before and I imagine there is a lot to deal with behind the scenes.

Efacsen · 22/05/2026 11:58

Plus Caroline Lucas speaking out - tho' not sure if she is still a member of the GP?

PickAChew · 22/05/2026 12:40

Green vetting is quite inadequate, isn't it.

Libdems have announced their candidate.

The Greens new front runner has also posted problematic comments.

I think so. She promotes them on her X feed still.

I don’t like that ‘failing Labour government’ phrase. Sounds a bit Trumpian - plus it’s demonstrably not true. Not succeeding fast enough, sure, but failing?

cardibach · 22/05/2026 14:20

It seems like all politicians are disappointing me and making me cross and cynical at the moment. Apologies, all…

BIossomtoes · 22/05/2026 14:33

There’s no need to apologise @cardibach. We feel how we feel and there’s certainly nothing much to feel cheerful about at the moment. I miss hope.

Ah don’t apologise- I definitely feel disappointed right now when I think about it.

As you know my focus is on stopping Reform (which is depressing enough) but, whilst we don’t advocate a specific party there’s got to be something that people can vote for out there.

I do blame MSM and their backers mostly with all the current stuff.

Maybe take some time out - for you - I’ve been distracted from the US thread and US politics lately, whilst I feel I need to catch up it is quite pleasant not knowing too!

💐

Thanks. I’m off to Greece on hols from Thursday so maybe I’ll consciously stay away from news and even this thread if I can manage it! Read books, potter round Greek towns, eat healthy stuff and drink lots of wine!

Failing to get their message across, sure. Making mistakes? Show me a government that hasn't. But you're right, they're not failing and I'm more interested in what a candidate wants to do than who they're slagging off, even when the slagging off is justified.

Sounds absolutely blissful. I’m deeply envious.

It’s a Solos holiday so hopefully the people will be ok - though I’m happy to wander off on my own if I don’t gel with anyone. We’re in a little hotel on the Kassandra Peninsula near Thessaloniki. Never been there before though I’ve visited loads of the Greek Islands

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2026 15:51

Sounds lovely @cardibach

I am a big fan of Greek food.

Sounds exactly what the Dr (and this thread!) ordered- have the most fabulous time.

pointythings · 22/05/2026 16:19

Have a lovely time, @cardibach . We will just have to make do with our spell of Greek style weather here.

You can all thank me. It always does this when I go away somewhere hot.
