I think Starmer will have to bring her back into the cabinet either way, now that she’s been cleared by HMRC.

BIossomtoes · 14/05/2026 13:26

She did a TRIP episode about Gen Z this week which is worth a listen. From the things she was saying there it would be a good call to give her Housing back. She’s very passionate about it. Of course there would be the inevitable jibes but she’s tough enough for them to be water off a duck’s back.

Agreed, she’d be well capable of dealing with any such jibes. And it was a good role for her before.

She’s also popular within the party so Starmer needs her onside.

I’m not impressed either. If there’s a leadership contest I hope he gets trounced.

He would do - according to polls.

I had sooo much hope for this new Labour Govt, we wait so long for one to come along and what do they do inside 2 years?

Pull the pin and do the oppositions job for them & of course a gift for Farage and his £5m "gift"

Even the Kings Speech was poor, nothing on Welfare reform, nothing on Social Care.

Maybe Starmer does have to go but not this circus.

TemperanceWest · 14/05/2026 13:44

Yep. It is pretty depressing.

Streeting will never be PM, so that is a small consolation.

This is exactly how I feel.

As a LP member I have no idea who I would support as leader at this stage.

My Mum always voted Tory, despite her views being quite socialist... she argued Labour don't have the brains to Govern... looking at this lot, she was right.

Haven't quite caught up with the new thread. My deepest sympathy for you @countrygirl99 💐

My tax is of socialist Oscar Wilde. His statue stands next to a plaque commemorating Garibaldi and is to be found in the plaza, Taormina.

It does look like Wes has misjudged things a bit.

And now Streeting has resigned.

The only person who has a target on Labour MPs is Farage. It certainly isn't Keir Starmer.

Security becomes reward for damaging the country

Quite a statement from Nigel Farage saying out loud that the uncovered £5m 'donation' was a reward for "campaigning for Brexit for 27 years":

So payment for services rendered. (Fabulous job Brexit did for our country too)

What was the other £12 million paid by Harborne in exchange for?

PickAChew · 14/05/2026 14:38

Hopefully the words of a weasel of a man who knows that he's been got.

countrygirl99 · 14/05/2026 14:39

@placemats is there still a shop that has handmade ice cream lollies in Taormina? DH still reminisces about them.

TemperanceWest · 14/05/2026 15:10

So it was a political payment and shoukd have been declared?

Efacsen · 14/05/2026 15:15

Guardian headline from earlier - before Streeting resigned

Starmer/Streeting/Labour leadership: lobby latest on what on earth might be going on

It should have been declared whatever it was for as it was in the 12 months before he was elected.

TemperanceWest · 14/05/2026 15:17

Might have to catch up with this on iplayer.

Exactly.
The reason it wasn’t declared was because Farage knew he couldn’t construct a coherent narrative to explain it.

Dodgy AF.

Here's his letter, which won't endear him to Wales and Scotland.

He doesn’t write very well. Starts his anti nationalism speech with ‘Both a threat to…’ and then doesn’t close that idea with an ‘and’. Poor. I hate that sort of thing - so easy to pick up on a proof read as if you just read it aloud to yourself it leaps out at you. Seems careless and that’s teh last thing we need in any sort of position of power now. Wouldn’t catch Starmer dangling a sentence.

Edited

Maybe he didn’t write it?

I paid my respects at his grave in Père Lachaise cemetery in a Paris a couple of years ago

He should still have proof read it…
