Should I apologise to my previous hairdresser and ask to return?

I fell out with my hairdrer because I thought I had reacted to her hair dye. It wasn't the hair dye, it was shingles. The hairdresser was upset and got rid of me. I went somewhere else and the new hairdresser coloured it too dark and I dont like it. I showed her a photo of what it looked like from the previous salon and she said she couldn't tell the colour as it was a photo. She kept insisting my hair was dark brown so I need dark brown dye. When I went to my previous salon I had had it coloured elsewhere and I was told it was too dark so she lightened it slightly and I was pleased with it. Now I've gone back to the too dark shade at the new salon.

I want to return to my previous salon to show them how dark it is and get their opinion and im sure they will agree that it's too dark.

All I can do is call and apologise and hope the hairdresser will take me back. The new salon is more expensive and £30 more for a colour and blow dry. The only good thing is the new salon is 15 minutes walk from home whereas the pre house salon is a 15 minute journey by public transport and then a 10 minute ute walk to the salon

Even if you had had a reaction to the dye, you didn't need to be an arse about it. Why did you fall out over it?

ETA oh it's you. Another person you have fallen out with. I suggest therapy rather than mumsnet might be more useful.

Edited

Oh, don’t suggest a therapist! I mean, I see why you did, but it will just be another person to add to the list of people who have failed @PerkyOchrePeer, like her multiple hairdressers, multiple GPs, her dentist, many, many friends etc.

BunnyLake · 25/04/2026 12:13

I can totally see her welcoming you back with open arms. She must be missing you terribly 😏

PatNoodle · 25/04/2026 12:14

As soon as I started reading the first few lines I just knew this was going to be you without even having to look at the username. Is there anyone or anything that happens in life you don’t start a bitching thread about?

I say this kindly, OP, but I suspect you're ND. Your perspective on this might not be aligning with your multiple hairdressers. Try & find a new one & hope they can be as good as the original.

I’m ND and I suspect the OP is just entitled and one of those people that treat anyone in a customer facing position like shit because she thinks she’s paying so is always right.

Even ND people can see this behaviour is ridiculous.

Not denying that for a moment, but in fact @PerkyOchrePeer posted recently in outrage about having been assessed at work by an occupational therapist because of getting overwhelmed, and the results had suggested some autistic traits. (Which is obviously not a diagnosis, I know.)

Of course. I'm not armchair diagnosing at all, I have 2 ND children (& an ex-H) & I recognise the black & white thinking is all.

This is a good point. Have you washed it yet?

I wouldn't go back to salon 1 tbh, you didn't treat them very well. Maybe think about that going forwards?

I havent washed it uet because I only had it done yesterday. When I go back in 4 weeks to have it cut, it should be lighter and I will yalk to the stylist and ask if she can see if it's lighter and maybe say next time do it a shade lighter or give ne highlights. After all, kate middleton keeps changing her hair colour from dark to lighter and back to dark

No reflection at all there OP.

You aren't Kate Middleton, you aren't paying Kate Middleton prices.

When i found out that it was shingles I told the hairdresser and she said sorry you have shingles next time you cone in i will give you another patch test. When I recovered from shingles I phoned the salon and was told you accused me of causing a reaction so I think it's best that from now on you go somewhere else

Having read your many other threads about pretty much everyone you ever meet, I suspect they were quite pleased to have an excuse to stop doing your hair. You’re very difficult and quite rude and a lot of your posts come across as aggressive.

BauhausOfEliott · 25/04/2026 14:13

CatRestaurant · 25/04/2026 11:53

Why did the first salon take it as some sort of personal insult that you thought you’d had a reaction to the dye?

Because she made a load of wild accusations to them about negligence over patch tests which were total bullshit.

CrayonCritic5 · 25/04/2026 17:07

Someone was incredibly unreasonable for you to be banned from salon 1 - either the hairdresser, or you. That’s no longer an option. Keep trying new places til you find somewhere.

Queenofthestonage · 25/04/2026 17:40

Why would you blame the salon if you thought you’d had an allergic reaction?
You said yourself that people can become allergic to dyes they have previously used with no problem!
I wouldn’t take you back you sound like a nightmare!

PerkyOchrePeer · 25/04/2026 17:54

Regarding kate middleton , albert think she has highlights , but I ve never known anyone to keep lightning and darkening their hair as many times as she does

So I would reserve judgement until you've washed it a couple of times tbh. It may well lighten up to the colour you were hoping for?

ThatMiddleClassFood · 25/04/2026 19:18

How did you speak to the previous salon when you thought you were having a reaction, were you confrontational? If you were confrontational it's unlikely they'll take you back.

In regards to patch testing best practice is before every hair dye but in reality no one does that, what the other salon does is irrelevant the hairdresser should be following her insurance guidelines state and you have no way of knowing what that is without knowing who she insured with. A reaction is YOUR body reacting to the dye and can happen even if a patch test is performed.

PublicHare · 25/04/2026 21:03

Who's Albert?

Peachesandfizz · 25/04/2026 21:26

Kate Middleton wears hair pieces.

I do hope you're going to salons in different localities as hairdressers talk and I can guarantee the hairdresser who sacked you off has warned others!

RockNToll · 25/04/2026 22:02

Find a new hair salon and be polite to them.

You know! Albert - whathisname - the highlighted hair checker guy. Can't remember his surname. He's very good though.

How do you know kate wears hair pieces?. Her hair is very long and it looked better when it was shorter.
