We are going to Spain next month for 4 nights for a hen do.
We have been sent a message in the WhatsApp group that no white allowed except bride.
At first I thought she meant no white outfits for the night outfits (which is totally fine ) but she’s said no white at all.
No white vests /trainers /bikinis/cover ups /linen trousers etc etc
Now most of my vests I wear under jackets are white and my trainers are white.
Shes specified no white at all
So I’m gonna have to rethink loads of outfits as a lot of skirts for day time match with a white vest.
My linen trousers for pool days are also white etc
Do you think this is a bit ott?
I mean trainers …I only own white trainers 🙈

I’m a bridesmaid so it was kind of a given I was going.
Ive also paid the full amount too
It was paid in instalments so didnt seem as bad.
Tried to ask her about the trainers etc but she’s a firm no ..no white at all
Il just travel in some flats
I just thought it was so ott
i know we will all be thinking the same

She can’t a really do anything though can she if you do wear white!

Nearly50omg · 22/04/2026 15:45

Id tell her she other refunds you in full or pays for your entire new wardrobe of clothes and a different colour pair of trainers if she is insisting on the not even a trace of white ridiculous rule! The photos thing?!?! I’d have just laughed at her and said grow up bridezilla we aren’t doing that!

Callmeback · 22/04/2026 16:02

God. She sounds egotistical but I guess you have to go if you're a bridesmaid and you've paid for it.

I'd probably buy coloured laces for your white trainers to take the edge off the white. Only a few quid. I'd buy a few non white vests as they can be bought for a few quid in places like Asda.

However, I'd be having a gentle word that this sort of shit has the potential to ruin the holiday that people have paid a lot for.

It’s honestly so ott
She’s forwarded us her baby pics and early years to print off and put them up at the airport bar …where we reserved a table
I’m hoping for sunshine so at least I can sun bathe

Dear god! I'm dying on her behalf!

Right.
Let me try again.
It should be a laugh, not stressful because you can't match a random dress code.

Is being asked a dress code stressful though?

Yes being asked to buy a whole new pair of trainers to avoid a glimpse of white in pics is unhinged and OTT. But saying "hey we're all wearing black" or whatever, most people would be happy to go along with that surely?

In my world they would be anyway. And if for some reason anyone was unable to, it would be understood.

purpleme12 · 22/04/2026 16:29

Oh god that's so ridiculous

I'd be really pissed off

Right.

What do you mean by 'Right.' honestly why bother replying!

What does "right" normally mean? I was taking your point - the dress code is, in your words "unhinged".

Bluedenimdoglover · 22/04/2026 17:14

Just wear what you want. If she goes full on Bridezilla, she's no friend.

This is the sort of thing a bridesmaid or friend organises to surprise the bride not for the bride to do herself! What’s the point?

In would stay away from white clothes because that is pretty standard for a hen do. I wouldn’t give up my white trainers though. I love my white Nikes I wear them day on day out so I would be travelling in them for sure!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 22/04/2026 17:22

Can you not just wear whatever clothes you choose and tell her that you'll stay out of the photos/shorts/feature length videos?

With a bit of luck everyone will do the same and this ridiculous 'all for social media' nonsense will die out.

AliceandOscar · 22/04/2026 17:27

Kinda of a shame you have asked her about it, otherwise you could have just worn all white and say sorry you misread the email, thought she was asking people to wear white.

Ocean67 · 22/04/2026 17:32

I wonder what she would think if you all cancelled 🤣
absolutely ridiculous request, especially after you’ve all paid for the trip.
what does everyone else think?
her poor fiancé is going to have fun with such a controlling wife.

Well I wasn't sure as 'right' can be said in different ways with different meanings. And because I've said all along that this specific hen is unhinged and you replied to me arguing with my point it's reasonable to assume you thought differently.

Now you have used more words, I understand.

Since when had avoiding white clothes been standard for a hen do?

It’s ridiculous and no way standard!

"In would stay away from white clothes because that is pretty standard for a hen do."

Perhaps in Instaland. Meanwhile, back in the real world it's a made-up load of rubbish.

Telling someone they couldn't wear white shoes to a wedding would be ridiculous enough. White has nothing to do with hen parties.

Firstly, I’m not one of these girls or friends with a girl like this but I’m so glad that these “demands” seem to be sent via messaging because it’d be written all over my face what I thought of that demand if I was asked in person 😂 no white trainers?!
I can understand the entire white outfit but no white trainers?! Most people have white trainers that they wear in summer.
And it’s all for social media. So she’s making silly demands of the people who are actually going just to look aesthetically pleasing for… strangers on the internet?

I think it would be better if people were actually communicating face to face about this stuff because then these stupid ideas would be kicked into touch. Instead people end up divorced from reality thinking this is normal because they aren't getting any feedback from people's expressions or tone of voice when these demands are made.

Three things with this post:-

  1. we should have the laughing emoji back
  2. this should've been the 1st post and then the MN classic words “1st post nails it” could’ve been replied.
  3. it’s bloody spot on
StartledPineapple · 22/04/2026 19:51

It's not Kate Hayes hen do is it? (IYKYK)

MrsTravelBug · 22/04/2026 19:55

If you like her and want to go on the hen do then I would respect the colour scheme as far as clothes go but trainers are expensive and I would wear whatever I have.
