What little acts of rebellion or activism do you do?

I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

I just will NOT, for anyone or any reason, go into our local Post Office. The bloke behind the counter literally SHOUTED at me some months back, and not the first time, either, in front of other customers. He had no genuine reason. I was polite and quietly spoken, not aggressive in any way, but Mr Oh-Listen-To-Me Motormouth decided to use his ginormous ego and mouth again to humiliate and embarrass me. The dopey woman sitting next to him just smirked. I angrily walked out and swore never to have anything more to do with them or him ever again. And I'm not the only one who hates him; he has a bad reputation throughout the entire town over the years.

I won't buy halal meat and check now for origins, details etc.

That's not a little act of rebellion, its great! And not easy, as its everywhere, even in school meals and NHS, apparently.

You've reminded me of my Mum. Back in the 1980s she went to the village post office to collect the family allowance. The post mistress said that she had already collected it that week.

My Mum let it go, but never went back to that post office. She said later on that she definitely hadn't collected it and suspected that the woman had a nice little side line in stealing money. My Mum knew that she could never prove that she hadn't collected it that week already, and this was before there were many CCTV cameras around.

Knowing how organised my Mum was, and still is now in her 80s (and as I am, obviously inherited!) I completely believe her.

She lived in that village for years and would go to other post offices rather than the village one.

That's awful @ComfyKnickers what a cow!

mambojambodothetango · 28/04/2026 17:15

Domestically, I refuse to put away my family's clean clothes. I refuse to make contact with my ILs and I refuse to buy gifts for ILs - that's DH's job. More widely, I won't wave thanks to drivers who pull in when it's my right of way anyway and I am trying very hard to stop saying sorry when something isn't my fault. I'm getting quite good at it and it now annoys me when other women people do it.

MadamWhippy · 28/04/2026 20:39

As already mentioned won't buy Ballymaloe/Allen products after the family stood by Darina Allen's husband after his conviction for possession of child abuse images.

Ever since Chrissie Hynde's rape statement I switch station when The Pretenders on radio.

Don't buy from Amazon or Starbucks.

On a more personal level had a run in with a colleague who completedly blindsided me with his verbal aggression (for no good reason). I was in such a state of shock and feeling humiliated that I couldn't say anything at the time and ended up bring angry with myself for not standing up.to him. The next day I used the anger to tell him exactly what I thought of him, etc - he apologised for his anger issues 🙄. I continue to move items (post, etc) from his cubbyhole to random places in the staff room...... as short term revenge. He bugs the hell out of me now when I see him so longer term, dish-best-served-cold revenge is always in the back of my mind.

Scorchio84 · 30/04/2026 20:44

Chrissie Hynd used to be cool, that was a changing moment for me too

Also BallyMaloe can get the fuck..

Daisychainsandglitter · 30/04/2026 21:34

We have recently been given brown bins to collect our left over food waste in.
I absolutely refuse to do this on principle given that I live in Birmingham and the council have not collected our recycling (paper, glass and aluminium) for well over a year. They can do one if they think I’ll be saving my food waste on a weekly basis.

You need to complain online to the Post Office HO. I complained twice. I imagine other people did too as our bloke is now gone.

I always say the traditional words to the Lord's Prayer.

I avoid Sainsbury's due to their gate and receipt policy.

When Al Fayed bought Harrods, I closed my account.

I pay in cash for purchases that cost less than a tenner.

If one of GP's at my practice uses my first name, I ask if I may use theirs. They twitch.

@TheyGrewUp , please could you unpick The Lords Prayer please?

At communion I always change the words to " Blessed is SHE who comes in the name of the Lord".

Fasdmama · 21/05/2026 16:08

@chagallsMuse that is brilliant.

deeahgwitch · 21/05/2026 19:52

i have heard rumours for a long time in Ireland that it wasn’t actually him @MadamWhippy
But I don’t know. 🤷‍♀️

MadamWhippy · Yesterday 15:01

I've heard those rumours too - younger member of the family

upinaballoon · Yesterday 15:22

When hot cross buns are on sale on Boxing Day I pick up a packet from the bakery counter and leave it somewhere else in the shop. Boxing Day is miles from Easter and the shops annoy me by putting them out so soon. Maybe I'll rearrange some early Easter eggs another year.

I report gambling ads on social media as inappropriate.

I'm going to start doing that!

No, but I can start.

Rubyeagle · Today 15:46

I think hot cross buns should be available all year! Nicer than a tea cake. Because I have to toast a tea cake but like a hot cross bun fresh and toasted!

cottingleyfairy · Today 16:26

Well, now I’m wanting a hot cross bun.

GinaandGin · Today 17:53

I no longer rush myself at tills in shops.
Men don't
Why should I?
