What little acts of rebellion or activism do you do?

I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

Thanks for your generous donation to FIDF! xxx

IDF have admitted they arbitrarily kill civilians so if that floats your boat, crack on.

Just been reminded by another thread mentioning India Knight - I regularly remind Times readers, via the comments section, that her partner, Eric Joyce, is a convicted pedophile and that she has stood by him. Then I point them in the direction of Julie Burchill's Silence of the Hacks article:

The silence of the hacks

Why has the press said so little about the Eric Joyce child porn case?

You are the one who leapt in to say they don’t claim benefits when the main point was a man got a child pregnant and now they are celebrated by having their own show.

I am surprised you didn’t caveat it but that’s up to you.

Well aren’t you a nice little Mumsnetter. Judging, being better than everyone. You fit right in!

Perhaps attempt to have some actual information before forming an opinion?

If you would like to explain why what I said was wrong, I’m happy to listen. Or just have a go at me. Up to you. Are you one of the family?

It's all up to you! Another donation on the way... You are a goldmine.

It’s your money, you may spend it as you wish. Lady Catherine will never know.

I don’t buy from Amazon any more.
I stream music on Qobuz, rather than Spotify.
I use Ecosia search engine, rather than Google.
I don’t use ChatGPT, or any other AI service.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 22/04/2026 08:43

Oh, and I was once walking through Liverpool in broad daylight, when the drunkest, highest man in the world came ranting up behind me, overtook me, and punched the backpack of a Deliveroo rider, sending him flying to the ground. The dickhead’s girlfriend was tottering behind him, desperately trying to placate him over some perceived slight.

I was watching the drama unfold when I saw the twat had dropped his keys, so I let him get a bit further up the road, then picked them up and dropped them in a litter bin.

GrandmasCat · 22/04/2026 10:14

I refuse to add my pronouns at the end of my emails, not because I have no sympathy with the LGBT cause but because if we all use them (or make them mandatory as my boss once tried before being made aware of the Yogyakarta Convention), we may be pressuring people, who are not yet ready or willing to change theirs, to lie or feel forced to come out before they are ready.

You can define what you think constitutes racism against you but if you decide to call people an anti-Semite with no evidence, of course you will get push back.

There’s plenty of evidence. Non Jews often don’t see it, but it’s clear as day to us

Squidgoals · 22/04/2026 10:36

nomas · 22/04/2026 07:48

Yep because there are posters here who will round up on anyone who expresses a less than positive comment about Israel.

I think it's fine to judge an adult male who got a 13 year old pregnant.

What I find bizarre is how that's brushed over and they've got a tv show!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 22/04/2026 12:57

Exactly. He was asked about it in interview once but just said that it wasn’t an issue then and that nobody had knocked on the door to arrest him.

Not sure how he’s different to any other creepy fucker who slept with a 13 yo and got her pregnant

I've got several relatives who had cancer picked up by screening, my mum has breast cancer and she survived because they caught it early. I would prefer more screening!!

that's fine we are all allowed to make our own choices.

Having just been to Sainsbury I've remembered a little act of rebellion that was suggested when MNet were surrounded by fields.

At the checkout, instead of putting the next customer sign crossways on the belt, put it long ways. I still do it. It never fails, the person behind always turns it back to the correct position, sometimes with an eyeroll.

I don't understand this. What is the point of this? what are you rebelling against here?

Ha, I remember reading about that years ago on MN too! Think it was to try and find other Mners in the wild lol, a knowing look or something 😁

Something else I’ve just thought of is I’m personally boycotting Nike because of their recent campaign around walking being “tolerated” when running

I presume you don't deem Transphobia as pre teen and teenage girls wanting a girls only space. Transphobia as a word is so overused now it has no impact, it's almost been cheapened.

I deem it as girls being actively hateful and while the move by guiding is what it is, I also know that some people might use it as an excuse to be transphobic. Similarly to how my sisters friend who was Belgian was told some of the most awful things by other kids after the brexit election. Everybody is entitled to their opinions, so long as while they’re at guides we’re still kind and respectful.

corblimeygvnr · 22/04/2026 21:09

Are you saying @ADowning that girls who want only girls in the Guides are being hateful and transphobic ?

No, I’m saying some people will use what has happened as an opportunity to be transphobic or be transphobic more openly than they might have previously.

Can you clarify your definition of transphobia? If girls are scared of boys (the correct definition for ’trans girls’) being in the unit, are they transphobic? Same for anyone whose concern is safeguarding of girls.

Why do you prioritise virtue signalling about allowing trans people in the organisation when it’s not allowed anyway and for safeguarding reasons ?

It's a thread about little acts of rebellion. Not "grill MNetters on their small activisms just because I don't agree with them" 🙄
Your post has made me think of another of mine - (not really you, just in general that is) that every time I see a particularly poisonous thread on here about LGBT or racism, I'll donate to charity tins at alternative markets if I'm there and see one, or a "safe space cafe" in town, or buy something from the RNLI shop.
