What little acts of rebellion or activism do you do?

I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

The teachers at DS's school are striking today. I am not letting him do the work set.

Im pretty p'd off they felt the need/were made to set work at all. It's an in-house issue that is very strike-worthy. I've also been quite vocal on the WA groups about refusing the work and have co-opted a few supporters.

Fair enough but surely the only thing you are doing is disrupting their education

A few twinkle worksheets is not an education. The only reason they've done that is to placate the moaning parents that can't see the bigger picture anyway.

Who is the 18yo influencer who impregnated a young girl? One of the X Kids and Counting sons? Was he arrested?

No the dad 🤮

Re. the Michael Jackson thing. I do 'get' why people feel they can't listen to his music. Pop stuff isn't really my thing anyway - I'm more of a classical and old-school rock person - but strangely I don't recoil from hearing it. As to the Lost Prophets, I never bought any of their stuff and unlike MJ they were much more of a band of the moment: no one ever plays that stuff now.

But I tend to separate the artist from the art. A lot of the early twentieth century authors whose work I most love had some absolutely horrible political views or very nasty skeletons in their closets. Without those people the canon would be the poorer, IMO. It's not going to hurt Jackson/Watkins whether people listen to their output or not. They're both dead.

As for MJ being 'innocent', the selective myopia is astonishing. Material discovered at his ranch following his death decisively clinched it. (You can Google this if you want to; it's too distasteful even to post). He's also openly admitted on TV to sharing his bed with 12-year old boys. In no one's language is such behaviour between an adolescent boy and a fully adult male ever innocent. This isn't mere naivety. It's a dangerous erosion of the social boundaries which are there for children's protection - and at the very least even this admission made this man a clear and present danger to children.

At best, he represented a risk to young boys. At worst - and I believe there's enough evidence out there to tilt toward this probability - he was a sexual predator of children.

That's a shame. I bought her ridiculously bloated Strike books purely to show my support for her.

Absolutely - who wants to support a woman who wrote an innocuous tweet on social media and was subject to death threats by men who claim to be women, ironically using stereotypical male aggression.

She could have kept her head down as she’s rich enough but no, she has put her money where her mouth is and set up charities to support women and girls including large amounts of her own money.

A dodgy woman, clearly 🙄

I separate art from personal life. But I also see society has always enjoyed a good lynching, and love to see someone's high up come tumbling down.

In the end, if there had been true evidence, there would be no way someone could hide this over so many years, no way for him to be not guilty on every single count. There would have been 1, 2, 3 at least counts of guilty surely based on evidence found, because every single person seemed to want him hung drawn and quartered.
But they didn't get that. The media sold copies and his life was pretty much destroyed though .

Oh and the art books found in his home, often signed by the authors, sometimes gifted by authors or fans, were not found by the jury to convince them.

So it's not myopia people have, it's understanding that a public court of opinion decided the lynching, not true verified evidence of actual abuse, which we clearly have with the Epstein network, Saville etc.
Not seeing that, to my mind, is the real myopia.

Noel Radford. He was 18 and his now wife was 13. But instead of that being a crime, they have gone on to have 20 odd kids and now the older kids are popping out kids of their own, at great cost to the taxpayer and the environment

They don’t claim benefits FYI, with their income from the TV show, shop etc I would be surprised if they are even receiving child benefit.

He was an adult male sharing his bed with 12-year-old boys.

He was on a TV interview, convicting himself of that particular deed out of his own mouth. You've conveniently omitted to respond to my points as to why that alone is a very serious problem.

You can choose to justify and explain that away until the cows come home, if it pleases you.

I shall not.

Because saying something is your belief is not anything that convicts someone, it's not legally binding evidence, so it's ridiculous. He clearly wasn't living in normal life, we all know that. But was he stating he did something sexual? No. Was he saying something we'd question? Yes.

Armchair prosecutors might say that's enough 'evidence' but jurors need more than that and so do many others. Hence all counts were not guilty.

All I would say, is there have been many many shows 'against', we've all seen those. But if you are set to be against, have you ever opened your mind to review the other side, to see what has been stated there? That's why I posted the link.

Oh yes that old line. I bet you don’t judge the whole ‘18yo man getting a 13yo child pregnant’ either.

Even if they didn’t claim a penny, the cost of maternity, education, health etc for that many people is far more than they will ever earn, let alone pay back.

The older children don’t seem to work either. Apparently having children is now a career choice

If a fancy car drives past, I deliberately look the other way, so as not to give them the attention they want 😁!
ha ha, me toooo
also do the same for souped up cars that make loud exhaust noises

I do this! I thought I was the only one.

Also, if a young lad (it's usually a young lad) drives past with a bike or car with the silencer removed, I always look concerned and sympathetic, and if they happen to need to stop near me, I lean in and tell them I think something's wrong with their car.

Long ago I was walking back from lunch along Kennington Road, just towards the Lambeth Road traffic lights. Suddenly a massive pile of fish and chips and papers landed at my feet (I think it was meant to hit me). The traffic lights had gone red, so the white van with 3 young men who had chucked it at me was stationary. I picked it all up and threw it back in through their window. All the bits of fish, crispy batter and cold chips went absolutely everywhere in the cabin and all over them.

Luckily the lights then went green and the idiots had to drive off (or yes, I would probably have been for the high jump). What made my day was when an elderly lady came over and congratulated me. She actually had tears in her eyes!!!

I hate litter louts.,

I have always wanted to do that, opportunity hasn’t arisen as yet!

Dellaandthedealer · 21/04/2026 17:29

Won’t have anything to do with Barclays, years ago when my husband was setting up his business he approached them for a business loan. A few years later they were falling over themselves to lend him money. He didn’t take them up on it.

I have worked in retail and people making unnecessary work pissed me off. Fair enough if you liked folding the jumpers or whatever.

And the posters on here who seem to think they are taking a stand… they really aren’t.

Oh don't get on your condescending high horse - i didn't 'like folding jumpers' that's not what I said.

Clearly you are so much better than me because you are far too important for menial tasks.

There's no need for the constant snarking.

What about those of us who are “up in arms” about both? Because we believe the survivors of sexual assault?

Exactly that!
Jimmy Saville was dead when the allegations against him were investigated, so he couldn't defend himself. MJ was a raging nonce. Epstein was as well, anyone involved with him is highly suspicious imo.
I found it strange that she was defending MJ, but against Epstein, I'd have said they were two of the same.

I have so many of these boycotts I have to rotate them.
A silly one is that a never bought another Yorkie bar after they did the ‘not for girls campaign’. Of course in reality I never liked them that much in the first place, so giving them up was no great hardship.
More serious ones, I’ve done many boycotts of Amazon for multiple reasons their impact on the environment, how they treat their workers, the safety of their products. Take your pick. Unfortunately, Amazon is too convenient and these boycotts usually don’t last.
I’ve boycotted many companies for using non sustainable palm oil multiple times but I’ve got to eat so those boycotts generally don’t last.
I’ve also done boycotts over too much single use packaging. They don’t last for the same reason.
I’ve also tried to avoid products with bad air miles/carbon footprint like avocados which sadly I love.

I planned on boycotting Amazon, but not for the right reasons, exploration of workers, but because they axed neighbours 😂

tinypettything · 21/04/2026 19:01

This is tiny, petty and makes no difference but gives me great satisfaction.

For any plastic bottles that have tethered lids, I break the tether when I am using them anyway - whether drinking out of the bottle or pouring.

I find them so annoying because I know some dear people with disabilities and arthritis who really struggle (sometimes with distress) to open these bottles. They are also unnecessary (EU regulation when we aren't in the EU).

My pointless act of rebellion is that I go out of my way when disposing of these bottles in recycling to throw in the lid separately so it falls through recycling and not put it back on the bottle. With old style bottles as a responsible person, I'd put the lid back on anyway when recycling so the tethers were doubly annoying to me as I wasn't a person who ever left lids separate to bottles.

There is a part of me that wishes for mass scale rebellion on this in the hope that drinks manufacturers distributing to the UK would get rid of tethered lids.

I know its pointless but watching someone with hand issues lose a bit of personal independence they previously had really upsets me.
