I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

My dad bought a roofbox for the car and stuck black tape over where it said halfords on it as he refuses to drive around advertising them 🤣 (surprised he hasn't stuck tape over the vw badge on the car 😆), he also purposely takes different carrier bags to the shop he is shopping in so if he is in aldi he will use asda bags or vice versa 🤣🤣. Maybe this isn't the sort of thing you are on about but it makes us laugh!

I used to turn carrier bags inside out for this reason 🤣
Maybe I should start doing it again.

Reminds me of when shops routinely used to plastic bag your purchases. I was a teen and as I always did, asked for no bag. I think this was in woolies. The jobsworth cashier told me I 'had to' have one so they could see I'd paid for my things. I took my stuff out, said 'that's what the receipt is for' and left their crappy bag sitting on the counter.

haven't read the full thread since this post, so someone else might have questioned it - but why are you anti halal and kosher? both are humane and respectful, as well as attached to specific religions - why would you not buy those products?

Are they feck.

Mind, nor are other methods of killing animals.

I try where I can to make ethical buying choices but also have a list of companies I’m boycotting because they’ve done something egregious towards me or even because they have a shit advert. The list is pretty long at this point.

I still won't buy clothing brands that pulled the plug on overseas suppliers they had firm contracts with, but reneged on them when Covid hit, leaving thousands of small businesses in Asia in jeopardy. I prefer to deal with decent human bengs.

Could you name the clothing brands @GreenCandleWax
or alternatively name those that didn’t renege on the small businesses ?

I agree, but I think some people don't really have respect for shop assistants, so don't really care.

Yes, that's correct. I hate shop assistants and have zero respect for them. In fact, I think I might just wander down to Waterstones now and tell them to fuck off.

Nomas, this time you have a choice - JNF or Natal? Thank you, once again.

It’ll be a tough decision for her so may I step in…? Natal.
Actually it’s only fair, if you do Natal I’ll go JNF.
I like this game

I just can't help myself. Whenever I come across those toilet paper dispensers with the tiny hole in the middle that deliberately try and restrict how much loo paper you take, I pull out twice what I need.

THIS for sure! Those gadgets are infuriating!

but at the same time the govt also needs society to have more people ?

Yes for the purpose of the economy - they want people to work in certain jobs and also to pay tax. They don’t want an increase in population for shits and giggles.

If all the children went out and earned good money then great. But they appear content to just have more and more children of their own (not surprisingly).

Given how much they have already cost in education, healthcare, maternity etc, do you think they are ‘earning their keep’, let alone paying even a tiny percentage that they have already cost.

GloiredeDijon · 20/04/2026 07:41

I agree about Michael Jackson. I can’t listen to the music, which I previously loved, knowing what he did.

(To anybody who still doubts his guilt I would say that after watching the testimony of his victims I 100% know he is guilty. I am a survivor of abuse myself and believe me you can recognise the truth (or lies) in others when you see and hear it.)

It is mind boggling that there are still stage shows, tribute acts etc.

As regards other stuff, well I boycott a variety of companies because of their stance on trans ideology, most specifically Lush but tbh they wouldn’t get my business anyway as their packaging is so ugly so that isn’t hard.

I avoid as much US stuff as I can because Trump his supporters are doing their very best to ruin the world.

I never eat at fast food places like Mc Donald's, KFC etc because they disgust me in a variety of ways.

I post Reform letters and leaflets back to them at their Freepost address so as to cost them money.

Years ago I used to go out and put up anti hunting posters and stickers in the dead of night. Had to be stealthy because I live in a very rural tory area.

There’s a film coming out- heard it on the radio this morning, and it’s all about his genius!! 😲

Genuine question to all the ones who hide books in bookshops…

The only person who you are inconveniencing is the person working there who has to sort the books out. Why would you choose to inconvenience someone who is an innocent party just to make yourselves feel better?

Not necessarily. I once colluded with an assistant in a garden centre shop in hiding the chemical slug pellets. We both thought they are cruel, and he put the organic versions out prominently.

And if that stops some girls from attending? So effectively you are putting the feelings of boys in front of girls?

And what happens with the camp? Do the boys (sorry ‘trans girls’) share with the girls? As surely that’s a safeguarding issue.

I don't get why trans girls don't just join mixed sex beavers/cubs/scouts. My girls are in these organisations and love it.

Feels like the parents are trying to make a point by enrolling them into an all girls organisation.

I buy cheap shit clothes from Temu on the basis that they last just as long as anything else (my clothes last decades years) and are much cheaper.

And then some other assistant has to put it back. Still pointless

I confess I reported Marc Jacobs to the ASA for the camera angles on the Daisy perfume Adverts .All non bra wearing young girls. The authority let it stand. Particularly rebellious as I work in beauty!

I won't buy Trinny beauty as she's rude to big people (my friend included).

I met Trinny once. She was lovely!

Again though - people will still buy it, you think you are being clever and taking a stand but it’s only against the minimum wage staff at the shop.

Have you ever worked in a shop?

I have and it was boring AF.

I used to love it when the customers messed up the jumper display meaning I had to fold them up again and therefore had something better to do than stare at the wall for hours during quiet periods (mens clothes shop, week day shift).

I'd happily have put books back in their rightful place had i worked in a bookshop. I'd be secretly pleased that someone had interacted with them - it would make it all feel just a little less pointless.

I have worked in retail and people making unnecessary work pissed me off. Fair enough if you liked folding the jumpers or whatever.

And the posters on here who seem to think they are taking a stand… they really aren’t.

The teachers at DS's school are striking today. I am not letting him do the work set.

Im pretty p'd off they felt the need/were made to set work at all. It's an in-house issue that is very strike-worthy. I've also been quite vocal on the WA groups about refusing the work and have co-opted a few supporters.
