What little acts of rebellion or activism do you do?

I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

I never buy any of that orla kiley (?spelling) stuff after I read that they took a shed load of money out of the business just before it was declared insolvent.
My major major act of defiance is putting copies of the daily mirror over the mail & express in M&S !

Troika71 · 20/04/2026 08:32

I wont go near ME+EM given their support to Rayner et al, with freebies.

GrandmasCat · 20/04/2026 08:34

I don’t go to Pret A Manger as they didn’t give a shit about labelling their products even if that resulted in anaphilaxis reactions and a death. They may label properly now but under duress.

i don’t buy bottled water, I find the fact that we have been convinced to fork out good money, for something so basic and essential, atrocious. And that is before we consider the stupid amount of extra plastic we need to deal with.

The last one is more controversial, I chose not to recycle plastic, not because I don’t care but because as a country, we use more plastic than what we need to recycle so what is not recycled is sold to poorer countries, we are basically paying them to get our rubbish out of our view and our conscience and without our recycle means they are only polluting their own countries or poisoning their populations when they burn it, so I choose to use as little plastic as I can rather than recycling it.

when walking I no longer move out of the way of oncoming men.

I won’t shop at Boots no matter what after the chief pharmacist justified the high profit margin on the price of the morning after pill by saying it would prevent reckless behaviour from women.

Boots backed down but only after a huge backlash. The pharmacist was totally tone deaf and condescending.

Read his comment here - Boots UK chief pharmacist Marc Donovan had said: “In our experience, the subject of [emergency hormonal contraception] polarises public opinion, and we receive frequent contact from individuals who voice their disapproval of the fact that [Boots] chooses to provide this service.
“We would not want to be accused of incentivising inappropriate use, and provoking complaints, by significantly reducing the price of this product.” He added that the chemist wanted to avoid the pill “being misused or overused”.

Also, they closed a pharmacy branch near us, depriving the community of an important resource as well as causing people to lose jobs as they said the store wasn’t profitable enough. That year Boots made £270 million in profit in the U.K.

FAFO. I’d advise all feminists to stop using Boots.

Tootingbec · 20/04/2026 08:37

Slightly less rebellious now, but didn’t “share” my pronouns at the height of pronoun pronouncements on email and LinkedIn profiles. Felt particularly petty rebellious because I used to deliver D&I programmes at work 😎

Don’t by Starbucks as they don’t pay proper tax in the UK.

Sadly can’t quite give up Amazon for the same reasons

FeralWoman · 20/04/2026 08:37

I refuse to buy from Amazon.

I suppose he never had any surgery and was alabaster white due to "vitiligo" too?

Guilty as the day is long.

Agreed. Remind me again how much he paid the young boy Jordan?
23 million dollars?

crackofdoom · 20/04/2026 08:39

I always "accidentally on purpose" push in the wing mirrors of cars parked blocking the pavement.

Lurkingandlearning · 20/04/2026 08:39

@Steelworks @GloiredeDijon I feel the same about Michael Jackson. I don’t bother getting into the “Did he? Didn’t he?” Holding his baby over the edge of a balcony showed me all I needed to know about him for me to stop listening to his music.

daysofpearlyspencer · 20/04/2026 08:40

Wear an Adult Human Female t shirt, or did before I got too fat. Signed Green Party Womens Declaration, still a GP member, hanging on by a thread.

Never buy halal meat or any thing with palm oil.

Looking to cancel American streaming services, give up Amazon etc.

ArtAngel · 20/04/2026 08:41

There is a shop in Rye that sells ‘trendy edgy arty’ gifts and household stuff. They sell doormats stacked outside with ‘witty’ misogynistic jokes on them about which women are un/welcome

Every time I go past I turn the top couple upside down

Bichette · 20/04/2026 08:43

I refuse to watch the Grand National, Cheltenham Gold cup or any horse racing.

Nowstrong · 20/04/2026 08:44

Nothing major really. Refuse to step foot in or buy Mac Donald’s. Won’t drink coke. Refuse to go to Starbucks , except when travelling and need the loo…
avoid anything Nestlé, when I can. Refuse to go to a certain shop in my village, because the owner isn’t very nice. Even if she has nice stuff. Do sign quite a few petitions.

crackofdoom · 20/04/2026 08:45

Oh, I've got another fabulously effective one. I initially didn't want to visit Hungary during our Interrailing trip last year because of Orban, but Budapest ended up being a logical overnight stop. So I bought a sparkly rainbow strap for my bag. I'm sure that showed him what I thought of his homophobic policies 😆

GloiredeDijon · 20/04/2026 08:45

ThejoyofNC · 20/04/2026 07:44

Michael Jackson was innocent.

I teach my boys to be manly.

Could you elaborate on your "manly" teachings?

speakball · 20/04/2026 08:46

I refer to animals as she and try to assume drs are female unless told otherwise. I do not remind other adult humans of anyone else’s birthday. I’m that relative.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 20/04/2026 08:47

I don’t use any business who is obviously using AI to write marketing posts.

CurlewKate · 20/04/2026 08:48

I don’t buy products that I know are unethical or support political positions that don’t align with mine-looking at you, Heck sausages and Warburtons. I get great pleasure from acts of micro feminism-for example, I always use she/her are always my default pronouns.

Enko · 20/04/2026 08:49

Boycot Nestle 26 years so far and will continue too.

I dont go to a local Danish shop that sells a lot of lovley clothing because during the hygge craze they posted a board stating
"Get your hygge jumpers here"
(A jumper cannot be hygge) I found it distasteful that they would profit on a craze to the extend they would mess up their first language.

I aim to support local independt shops above chains but I wont say I am rigid about it just when the chance is there I go independent.

I am with people on distaste for Michael Jackson songs and also Rolf Harris.

We are cutting down on American products following the current political climate. We will be changing car brand when we change car following 15 years of Fords.

GenieGenealogy · 20/04/2026 08:49

Haven't bought from Nestle for about 30 years.

Actively boycott Shein, Temu and the other Chinese tat merchants. Also actively embracce second hand wherever possible.

With you on Shein, Temu.

Wisterical · 20/04/2026 08:53

I've never worn make-up.

HeddaGarbled · 20/04/2026 08:54

When the local Facebook group is having a pile-on about a local business, I always post about how great their coffee is, or whatever. I don’t like social media bullying, especially of small businesses.

Hadenough32 · 20/04/2026 08:56

I deliberately scratch the cars that park on the pavements leaving me no choice but to take my buggy and kids out into the road.
If I'm not in a rush I knock on doors and ask them to move the car.
