Things you're doing in your life right now that would sound bonkers if you told anyone, but make sense to you....

I'm currently stalking a man in my neighbourhood because I love his dog. I've bumped into this man and his dog twice. I've started going out at the same-ish time and walking the same-ish route in the hopes of meeting him his dog

I have a whole imaginary world in my head where I'm a former supermodel now living a quiet life in the countryside. When I'm pottering around doing household chores, I pretend Louis Theroux is following me asking me probing questions about my tough childhood and stratospherically successful career.

I plan retirement every single day. I model different scenarios with different levels of income. I look at properties in retirement communities a lot. I'm 40.

I would never say these things out loud to another human because they make me sound absolutely bonkers. But there it is.
Tell me your weirdness that you could never verbalise...

Standing as a paper candidate in the local elections.

If I go for a nanna nap and am having trouble dropping off, I mentally go to one of the houses I've built in my head. My favourite is a huge log cabin, in a private woodland, security gates, all walled off from people. There's a large lake in front of the house, which I own. I go shopping at the local village store for fresh bread, cheese and meats etc, then go back and prepare my lunch. By the time I get round to eating it, I'm asleep!
I know what's in all the cupboards and where, the exact layout of the house, all the lamps, furniture, decor etc.
Depending on how I feel, it'll either be summer and I'm sat on the decking looking at the lake, or winter where I'm sat in front of a big open fire, watching the snow come down through the huge picture windows!
I sound a bit bonkers now!!! 🤣

I travel a lot for work.
I imagine landing somewhere or stepping off a train or into a car park and seeing either Kit Harrington or of course, Dave Grohl there.

Just there, standing there, and I would go up to them and have an interesting conversation with either of them, telling them stuff that would be completely different to the usual “I’m a big fan” shite.
Then on Graham Norton they would tell the story of meeting me and my interesting story for I am super interesting don’t you know…

Applying to Uni to study nursing at the age of 63. I haven't told anyone!

Just admit you fancy the man, OP Wink

I had a very intense first love when I was age 15-17. I got pregnant in this time and had a termination. I got a text from him out of the blue when I was in my mid 20s telling me how much he regretted encouraging me to do it, and how much he misses me. I didn’t reply and I never heard from him again. No idea what he’s doing now.

I’m going through a strange phase of wondering how life would’ve turned out had we stayed together. Tbh I think it’s just the passion I miss - I’m now in my mid 30s with children, and while I love DH after 11 years together we’re very much plodding the treadmill of life with work and so on. So it’s not a fair comparison really. I adore my kids and wouldn’t change anything that led up to having them.

But I often think back to this boy and replay conversations we had, things we did, and all the intimate details.

I’m so glad we have anonymous corners of the internet to confess all this in 😂 all the posts here are so interesting so thanks for starting this thread.

When out walking or travelling to work I plan who I'm going to give money to if I win £100m.

I sometimes plan where I'm going to visit on a 2 year cruise around the world. I've gone as far as to look up cruises and cabins.

When I'm falling asleep I imagine I'm in stasis on a generational spaceship.

I often daydream about travelling by wagon train with a group of mums and their families who I know because all our children have disabilities. In my dream the children all blossom with the gentle pace and outdoors and community. In reality this would be utterly unworkable as most are too high needs or would just find it horrifying. It’s a good thing I am not rich I would just try new crazy schemes all the time.

What a lovely thought, though 💕

Planning retirement in Thailand.

A former neighbour retired and moved to Thailand last year. His girlfriend lived with him over here, but she also had a home over there. They have since got married and he seems to be loving his life now.

I am learning Tai Chi, going to four classes a week, practicing for two hours a day at home and now can’t sleep because I’m going through all the moves in my head.

Edited

Also me! I’ve been doing it for about a year and love it. And then if I can’t sleep I go through it in my head, as in “ok, tonight we’re doing the long form as set out by the late grand master ????” I also day dream about being in China and seeing a big Tai Chi group and skipping merrily along and joining effortlessly in….they think I’m great, of course 🤣

Harshreality · 16/04/2026 18:22

I imagine I have a TRex the size of a chicken so I plan out the garden area for it to stalk around and buying shin pads for when it bites my legs. Should I feed it live prey like a mouse? Not sure. Sometimes it's a Triceratops the size of a pig. That works better with feeding but I'm quite fond of my imaginary tiny TRex

Supersensitive · 16/04/2026 18:23

I listen to a Taylor Swift song ( look what you made me do ) and imagine it as an intro to a series based on a book I have wrote that is a thriller about a group of people living in a cul de sac who all witnessed a murder and it involves someone having an affair and the killer being a woman no one suspects- that’s literally it , I haven’t and would never write a book .

I listen to the greatest showman soundtrack and imagine I’m the star of the show , doing like crazy stunts , and I do this on the side of my job and all my work colleagues come to watch and are amazed .

I have conversations with myself in my car where I’m practicing talks I will give at work , that I will not .

PuppyMonkey · 16/04/2026 18:28

For years, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I’d do with my hair if there were ever a zombie apocalypse and thus no access to hair dryers and straighteners and hairdressers etc. I’ve even chosen specific hairstyles due to thinking they might be easy to manage when it comes to not being able to wash it due to zombies and needing to survive without having it cut regularly. Scrunchies are often considered.

Yes I know I should be thinking more about how I’d get food and keep warm etc. But it’s the hair that my stupid brain seems obsessed about.Grin

Seriously considering signing up for some fire play workshops. (Swinging balls of fire around and learning eat fire)🔥

I have 2 main 'falling asleep' daydreams. One in which I have won the lottery and fantasise about how I am going to live. Two in which there has been some sort of disaster nearby (a plane has crashed etc) and I am the one who leads the rescue attempts and saves the day.

Ridiculous I know - although I have had some first aid training!

My two are, winning the lottery and an apocalyptic event!

Mapletree1985 · 16/04/2026 18:34

I fantasize about living full time in a tent in the woods that magically has excellent wifi. I spend a lot of time on outdoors websites looking for the perfect tent, and figuring out the minimum amount of equipment I will need (I don't like owning stuff).

When I'm in boring meetings or at boring receptions I quietly pretend to myself that I'm one specific video game character working under cover.

AgnesX · 16/04/2026 18:38

I consider my perfect cottage in the country (which conveniently is near a old tyme village that has a Tesco, Tom Kerridge quality pub, bookshop and cafe).

Despite having no neighbours that you can see or hear and off the beaten track, said cottage has gas central heating and a real fire. And super speed internet.

We'd have cats, hedgehogs, foxes, a polytunnel for DH to pootle in and a perfect lawn.

Such a place doesn't exist and even if it did we couldn't afford it so daydreams is all it is.

BeatrizBoniface · 16/04/2026 18:39

I live near a National Park. When I go for a walk I like to talk to the sheep. They're always so kind and understanding. They just gently graze as I chat away. I don't get too close, and keep my distance at lambing time, but they often look at me assuringly, while ruminating.
They can't believe Trump, either.

I’ve just realised I’ve got another one.
I have a friend who is a terrible gossip. She overshares details about her DP’s family all the time and tells me about all their dramas and ups and downs. I’ve never met any of these people but I have created visual representations to match the names, and they populate a sort of soap opera in my head. I’ve even worked out how they’re all related, like the family tree that you get at the front of a novel.

I really hope I never meet any of them in real life. It would be like meeting someone off the telly.

I have a friend like that. I love the stories of all her relatives but I don't want to meet them; they're an entrancing fiction to me.

I do this too I have done since I was little! I plan who I would give money too, what debt I would pay first, how great I would feel. When I was a teenager I would have a falling asleep hope that I would wake up in the morning and have giant knockers 😂 Now I do have them and they just piss me off.

envbeckyc · 16/04/2026 18:43

I look into survival tactics for natural and man made disasters, volcanic eruptions (super volcano eruptions) accidental releases of airborne chemicals, nuclear weapons, earthquakes, contaminated water supply, pandemics etc…..

To be honest when COVID came to the UK my husband joked that I was already the most prepared person (not a hoarder, but always have an extensive medical kit).

As soon as my kids leave home I want to do another post grad, this time, in disaster management!

I think I would like to enjoy my retirement helping in disasters….
