The Canadian Tar Sands pipeline is big because it is heated - to stop the bitumen setting in the pipe

Gas is easy to move
and most of the Gulf crude is lighter fractions

"Trump says China would face a 50% tariff if it transfers weapons to Iran

By Jennifer Hansler
President Donald Trump warned that China would face a 50% tariff if it transfers weapons to Iran, but said he doubted Beijing would do so, despite US intelligence indicating it had such plans.
“I hear news reports about China giving the shoulder missiles, what’s called the shoulder missile, anti-aircraft missile,” he said, appearing to reference exclusive CNN reporting that Beijing is preparing to transfer shoulder-fired anti-air missile systems known as MANPADs.
“I doubt they would do that, because I have a relationship, and I think they wouldn’t do that,” he told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.”
“Maybe they did a little bit at the beginning, but I don’t think they would anymore,” he said.
“But if we catch them doing that, they get a 50% tariff, which is a staggering – that’s a staggering amount,” Trump said.

The UK used to have a lot of pipeline expertise. The high pressure gas grid Transco run being a world class example (started in the 60s).

Gas at 75 bar. (1015 psi).

Yup. I am talking about why the pipeline. Because the Canadian oil is heavy same as VZ. And the heavy crude refineries are in the US south for VZ oil. But Chavez cut it off. Is that right ? Memory fuzzy.

Why hasn't a Grassy Knoll incident happened?

I thought one had, but the shooter only got him in the ear and killed a bloke behind him.

Wasn't he a registered Republican voter?

Who, to be fair, are losing their fanbois.

Given the trajectory of recent events, if "an incident" were to occur, it's a 90% chance it's a disillusioned MAGA than a vigilante democrat.

it's a 90% chance it's a disillusioned MAGA

You have more 'faith' in them than I do. I'd put it at about 50% disillutioned MAGAt, 10% vigilante Dem, and 40% the 'rest of the world'. 🤣🤣🤣

I would stop short of capital punishment though. That's a red line.

Personally, I'd settle for a ticker tape parade for the convicted to send them on their way to the 'Alcatraz of the Rockies' (aka USP Forence 'ADMAX').

But I have a feeling it'd be the death penalty. Scrotus would be happy at that since he's the one who 'reactivated' executions in federal prisons back in 2019. Prior to that it'd been ~20 years since a federal execution.

I might be totally wrong here, from hazy memory.

The pipeline to take Canadian tar sand oil from Canada to the US gulf. The one that went through tribal lands and big protests. Obama era. Trump supported that. But, that pipe was built because big oil had built heavy crude refineries to process VZ oil in the US gulf. But Chavez stopped that oil. And Canadian oil is similar to VZ oil. So pipe it down.

Then Trump took the VZ oil. Went to sell it to big oil. And they said no thanks, we spent billions on pipelines already. We don't need it. It's cheaper for us to pipe Canadian stuff. We invested.

Is that about right ?

And Trump has VZ oil he can't sell... boom..Iran.

Almost right I think.
Canada used to supply almost all US crude imports but Trump got his hands on Vz oil (I think he has sold some internationally) then decided to ditch Canadian crude for Vz crude. Luckily post tariffs, Canada had started diversifying into European markets to sell their oil. I bet he's selling Vz oil to himself at a hefty discount, as Canada had already been supplying oil at a below market rate, because US neighbour and ally.

The sequence for me is Grab Vz oil to maintain domestic supplies, then grab Iran's to make gazillions.

Canadian Crude Price Plummets After Trump's Venezuela Oil Move - Today in Nashville

Canadian crude prices on the U.S. Gulf Coast plunged dramatically following President Trump's announcement that Venezuela would release up to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States, sold at market prices. The impact was immediate, with Canadian...

It’s not just oil from Iran though is it? It’s any tanker with oil from any of the surrounding companies that normally goes through SoH and has made an agreement with Iran to be able to travel safely. I can’t imagine Kuwait are going to be wild about it.

There were some French boats that got through. Is there a precedent for one NATO country sinking a tanker from another NATO country in an act of war?

I think that's called friendly fire, like the Kuwaitis shooting down the US planes. Imagine to cost of including risk of friendly fire in the insurance policy!

Yup. I am going way back. Maybe 90s. Big oil built the refineries on the US gulf to refine VZ. But they lost that and switched to Canadian. They did tanker it by rail, but then built the pipe. Keystone XL I think. Piped some way, then train tanker. Accidents and rail congestion followed. Recently extended pipe to the gulf. Texas sweet crude wont go through the gulf refineries built for VZ heavy.

Cool. Thanks. From that :

"In fact, a piece of it could be stitched into a new 36-inch crude oil line that would help get more Canadian oil to refineries along the Gulf Coast — but first passing through Wyoming."

So they still train tanker it then ? But it is the oil type and refinery location.
