Thanks for this, Spandauer.

I wish we didn't need it!

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 07/04/2026 16:58

I wish I didn't feel like things are about to get kinda horrific, but I do feel that. Another sleepless night keeping an eye on events while a Trump deadline approaches.
I so appreciate these threads. I feel less alone and a bit less mad.
Huge appreciation for all of you, you bright, caring, knowledgeable, articulate people you.

CactusRabbit · 07/04/2026 17:02

I was going to start a new thread asking this, but figured here is a good place instead.
Can Trump be stopped with his plans? He is literally threatening war crimes, and no one seems to speaking up about stopping him?

Interested in this thread?

I completely agree with everything @TemporarilyCantDoMyselfhas just posted. Thank you for these threads and for your awareness and knowledge of what’s happening. It helps immensely to read and know others are thinking the same

From CBS. The dems are engaging first gear... not.

A sort of stern letter from the top while the backbenchers go ape ?

Personally. I don't see how Trump can recover from this. But he will of course. So I should say Trump should not recover from this.

"Democrats in Congress panned President Trump's latest rhetoric Tuesday, voicing concern about possible escalation in the Iran war after Mr. Trump warned in a social media post that "a whole civilization will die tonight" ahead of his deadline for Iran's rulers to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the president "an extremely sick person." He and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries urged Republicans in Congress to express opposition to the war.
"It's time for every single Republican to put patriotic duty over party and stop the madness," said Jeffries, a New York Democrat.
Rank-and-file members in both the House and Senate expressed outrage after Mr. Trump's threat. Some called for impeachment and for the 25th amendment to be invoked to remove Mr. Trump from office, while others demanded that House Speaker Mike Johnson call Congress back into session immediately and said the president's threats could constitute war crimes.
GOP Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin stressed on John Solomon's podcast Monday that he did not "want to see us start blowing up civilian infrastructure."

Thank you @Spandauer
Shall we all just pray now?😟

Thanks for the new thread. It's glorious today where I am. Bees buzzing around and children playing in the park opposite whilst their parents look on with a picnic gathering.

It's a scene throughout the Northern Hemisphere right now.

I just want to say thanks again to @Spandauer et al for these threads.

PickAChew · 07/04/2026 17:34

As a thanks for the new thread, a wee bit of good news from CBS.

An Iranian-backed militia in Iraq announced Tuesday that American journalist Shelly Kittleson, who was abducted on a Baghdad street a week ago, was being released on the condition that she leave Iraq immediately."

Thanks for the new thread. Not going to lie, I'm feeling pretty despondent after the genocidal psychopath's post. I fear for the people of Iran whose lives are being destroyed by these despotic regimes.

AcrossthePond55 · 07/04/2026 17:51

@Spandauer Thanks for the new thread.

You know, I have an atavistic fear that actually starting to post here rather than finishing the old thread will 'jinx things'.

Sigh. I'm not normally this paranoid.

I listened to the news in my lunch break and have spent the afternoon unable to focus on work and feeling totally sick. I'm glad to have found this thread as I was feeling very alone. DH has just got back from work and thinks I'm being melodramatic.

ETA and yes, when I wake up for my inevitable 2am loo trip, I'll be looking at my phone and hoping it hasn't happened

CatBusStop · 07/04/2026 17:58

Tempted to take a diazepam at bedtime tonight. I’ve been waking up and having panic attacks for the last 2 nights.

logicisall · 07/04/2026 17:59

Thanks for the new thread @Spandauer . I'm still posting on the old one to help close it off.😎

Maggiethecat · 07/04/2026 18:24

What kind of world are we living in that man is capable of being 250,000 miles away in space while here on earth we have a psychopath threatening to destroy a nation on a whim and no one is able to do anything about him?

Spandauer · 07/04/2026 18:25

Was going to put this on the last thread to fill it up.
