Would you rather be in a room full of people all talking about how brilliant you are, or in an empty room by yourself?

I would choose the empty room every time.

Apparently it's a 'test' to see how introverted or extroverted someone is.

The reason I'm posting is because I am struggling to believe anyone would choose the room full of people. Am I wrong and blinkered?

i want the people, i just dont think im that great, yes im strange but not great and talking about myself would get boring

ThatPearlkitty · 21/03/2026 20:34

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 21/03/2026 20:32

I'd rather be by myself than listen to how brilliant I am.

I don't need to to hear from other people what I already know.

is that you sheldon cooper ?

SomedayIllBeSaturdayNight · 21/03/2026 20:36

A room full of brilliant people talking about how brilliant I am? Who wouldn't want this???

TheLambtonWorm · 21/03/2026 20:36

Empty room. Imposter Syndrome and raging RSD would mean I cringe myself into oblivion and think about how cringe the things people were saying for year and years. It's not worth the stress 😂

See, the empty room I can understand.

But the room full of people all talking about me? And complimenting me? My buttocks clench at the idea! Cannot think of anything worse.

If you would choose the room full of people, can you explain a bit about the appeal of that? I'm fascinated. I think I'm generally reasonably good at being able to see viewpoints that don't match my own but this is an absolute brick wall for me.

I’m an introvert, and would choose the room full of people complimenting me — why wouldn’t I? It has nothing to do either with extroversion or introversion. I’m a sociable person, and socially confident and I like being around other people. I just need a lot of downtime to compensate. But I’m certainly not averse to company, attention or praise. If everyone’s complimenting me at this imaginary event, I’m assuming I’ve won an award or something? What’s not to love? I can enjoy tonight and then have a few solo days to compensate.

HelpMebeok · 21/03/2026 20:38

Is it an empty room with a bed so I could have a nap? I'm 100% in that room .

ThatPearlkitty · 21/03/2026 20:40

thats the thing with me i like a good chat and and can work the room but then after a bit i need to study the chats and then try to memorise some of the conversations

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 21/03/2026 20:40

Full room! Reminds me of my baby shower when all my loved ones were so nice to me

DrJump · 21/03/2026 20:41

Can I leave the compliments room when ever I like? Then it would be ok. For maybe a minute or two. Can I compliment back? Is that allowed?
I think the empty room. I guess as I have to many caveats for the first room

YelramBob · 21/03/2026 20:42

I'm always in a room full of people telling me how brilliant I am. I'm awesome 😎

Also, some of the 'people' are my cats 🤭

Anewerforest · 21/03/2026 20:43

Can I be sure that the people in the room praising me are not being sarcastic??

Brody77 · 21/03/2026 20:44

Interesting about ambivert from pp and interesting idea- good thread. I would prefer the empty room, DH and dd the full room, I am very much introvert but have to push myself out whereas DH extrovert but actually quite negative about people in general due to bad negative experiences so likes to think he has lost his extrovert tendencies but actually when it comes to it is extrovert underneath.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 21/03/2026 20:50

Interesting because I would say I’m introverted but the first room appeals more. I would love it if a whole room full of people had nothing but positive things to say about me. In real life that never happens. I’m anxious all the time about being judged negatively, which is probably why I’m introverted.

maudelovesharold · 21/03/2026 20:51

I’d quite like to be in the empty room, but next door to the room full of people, so I could hear them banging on about how great I am!

RandomMess · 21/03/2026 20:51

Empty room as I can’t cope with compliments

Simonjt · 21/03/2026 20:52

Empty, I even used to hate getting man of the match, I found it so embarrassing. My husband is an awful winner, so he’d love it.

See, my cat has nothing but criticism for me. Just this morning, for instance, I didn't get up at 4am to give her some breakfast. And she's really hungry because she's actually never been fed. Not even once in all the time she's lived here. She is but skin and bone, hanging on to life by a thread.

Empty room, without a shadow of a doubt. God how I yearn for an empty room.

Empty room. I can’t bear being the centre of attention!

Cushionseams · 21/03/2026 20:56

Depends on who these people are: my family, absolutely the first room. Otherwise the second room
