Would you rather be in a room full of people all talking about how brilliant you are, or in an empty room by yourself?

I would choose the empty room every time.

Apparently it's a 'test' to see how introverted or extroverted someone is.

The reason I'm posting is because I am struggling to believe anyone would choose the room full of people. Am I wrong and blinkered?

Could I please have 5 minutes in the first room before retreating to the second?

Perfect.
That's the right way round too.

DeanElderberry · 21/03/2026 20:58

Empty room.

Though a room with no humans but some cats and or dogs would be better.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 21/03/2026 20:58

Ive been alone for a while

I'd take the first option and see

FluffletheMeow · 21/03/2026 20:58

Well assuming the compliments are genuine and I don't find some way to fuck it up, I'd choose the long overdue recognition of my brilliance!

But, as I tend towards introversion I'd have to go home to recover with a cup of tea afterwards.

FenywHysbys · 21/03/2026 20:58

Empty room. I’d picked the full room, but there was no one in there praising me. Not one. 😁

lljkk · 21/03/2026 20:59

I hate being centre of attention and am just waiting for them to turn on me.
Are they all on drugs maybe?

See, my cat has nothing but criticism for me. Just this morning, for instance, I didn't get up at 4am to give her some breakfast. And she's really hungry because she's actually never been fed. Not even once in all the time she's lived here. She is but skin and bone, hanging on to life by a thread.

Literally starving to death then 😵 You should be ashamed of yourself.

I wonder if my cats have the same existential crises.

PolkaDotPorridge · 21/03/2026 21:05

Empty room!

TwistedWonder · 21/03/2026 21:06

Empty room every time. Option a sounds like my worst nightmare.

Im very social but hate being centre of attention.

cariadlet · 21/03/2026 21:15

Empty room every time.

I'm happy to be with a group of people discussing topics I'm interested in but wouldn't be keen on a very busy, full room and if they were all complimenting me then that would be hideous.

I'm assuming that the empty room wouldn't actually be empty, just empty of people. If it had a bed or comfy settee and loads of books or something to play podcasts then it sounds like bliss.

Boudy · 21/03/2026 21:16

Empty room here!

NormasArse · 21/03/2026 21:18

Empty room for me. I don’t take praise from other people easily.

Interestingly though, I do find it easy to praise myself.

TartanMammy · 21/03/2026 21:18

Empty room! I didn't even have to think about it.

I would choose the room full of people. And happy to take all the compliments I can get. Why not? I don't get much in real life.

On MN I know being an extrovert is akin to confessing to drowning puppies, but I have extrovert traits. Though not all the time.

EmbarrassmentLovesCompany · 21/03/2026 21:20

The compliments bit is stuff of nightmares. Do they actually mean it? And what do they want from being nice to me?

Empty room, please. Tho the cat version sounds ideal.

gamermumto1 · 21/03/2026 21:24

Empty room, god I hate being around people hahaha

CharlotteRumpling · 21/03/2026 21:25

I am wondering if this is a cultural thing. I come from a loud, non-self deprecating culture.

EmbroideredGardener · 21/03/2026 21:27

Yeuk, I hate compliments, even if I think they're genuine, which I mostly don't. They make me feel awkward

PropitiousJump · 21/03/2026 21:30

I get embarrassed if one person pays me that kind of compliment - not that it happens often - so definitely not a roomful of people. I like it if someone compliments an aspect of my appearance, but I find it difficult if they praise my character or an achievement.

DelilahBucket · 21/03/2026 21:31

An empty room is my idea of hell! I will happily talk to people all day at work, and then go out all evening and talk to people all night. I would choose a room where I'm centre of attention any day of the week. I'm a mega extrovert and get my energy from being around people. It's not often I'm alone.

happysinglemama · 21/03/2026 21:31

Empty room I love some peace quiet my life is too busy and very noisy as it is

PerkingFaintly · 21/03/2026 21:31

That full room sounds horrific.Shock

Empty room, please, if those are the two choices.

CharlotteRumpling · 21/03/2026 21:32

Why do you all hate compliments so much? 😁 I assume they are sincere.

SMM2020 · 21/03/2026 21:34

Room full of people where I just mill around and chat, no problem! Room full of people constantly complimenting me - I’d want to die on the spot. I’m considered an extrovert but I’d take the empty room over that kind of torture.

Sky1977 · 21/03/2026 21:37

Empty room without a doubt
