I'm no fan of Donald Trump, but..

I'm no fan of Trump but imagine if Biden or Harris had won the 2024 election:

Maduro would still be destroying Venezuela

The Ayatollah would still be killing his own people in Iran

Iran would still have nuclear weapons

There would probably still be Israeli hostages in Gaza

India and Pakistan could be at war

As could Armenia and Azerbaijan; Rwanda and DRC; Egypt and Ethiopia; and Cambodia and Thailand

Russia would be in a much stronger position in Ukraine

Other NATO countries would be spending less on defence.

He's not very good domestically but that's an incredible record on foreign affairs. Let's face it: The world would be on fire if Biden or Harris had won. Trump is seen as a strong man around the world and, outside of the west, that's probably respected.

You are the biggest fan of Trump and probably of Eptsein too but I must admit you are not a fan of international law

Right, so without any actual knowledge, you're sneering at upset posters on another thread.

If you're concerned about the plight of people or, specifically women, in Iran, which I assume you are considering your comments on Islamo-leftists being against Trump, why are you not sympathetic to the plight of people caught up in the midst of this with no warning?

Sorry but I just don't understand why people get upset about the sound of military jet aircraft versus the sound of civilian jet aircraft when to my ears they all sound the same.

F22s were being flown out of RAF Lakenheath in June 2025 were people equally unsettled then? Besides the F22s using Lakenheath are only using it as a transit point rather than being based there, so it's not as if they are going to be there for long.

If it's specifically the sound of military jet aircraft that people find unsettling then maybe I should amend my post to "if you find the sound of military jet aircraft unsettling then don't live near a military airbase".

You’re certainly not a fan of the U.S. Constitution. How do you feel about orange jumpsuits?

We all have different political views that can be difficult to place on the political spectrum.

I enthusiastically voted for Blair twice - it doesn't get more pro establishment than that.

And what did you think of Blair's adventures in Iraq?

Nine2five · 01/03/2026 13:45

Fleur405 · 01/03/2026 11:20

Absolutely. Fuck international law. Fuck the United Nations Charter. If Donald Trump wants to kidnap and/or kill people on the sovereign territory of other nations then he should definitely be allowed to just do that as and when he feels like it for whatever reason he likes.

Where as you don’t give a flying fuck that women in Iran are beaten or murdered for not wearing a hijab in public. If they survive the arrest and find themselves locked up in the hell hole of a prison, their babies are locked in there with them. But don’t let that keep you awake at night, oh hang on, I can see it doesn’t.

CanSeeClearlyNowTheRainHasGone · 01/03/2026 13:18

No it hasn't.

But the question is asked was predicated with an IF.

Would you be happy if such a state did manage to achieve nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles to deliver them. What would be an acceptable sacrifice to stop that happening? 1 child? 10? Or is there no situation bad enough?

Personally I wouldn't trust them to build one, transport it to somewhere like London in a van and tell some weak-minded idealogue suicide bomber they get more than the usual number of virgins for blowing up the evil city.

Well Netanyahu the bloke who attacked Iran yesterday has been fairly insistent that they have.

If mean if my grandmother had wheels and all that. The facts are that Iran aren't and haven't been 'weeks away' from having nuclear weapons. I don't think that we need to be bombing girls schools in Iran to protect people in the UK from something that isn't happening.

Would you sacrifice your children to stop these nuclear weapons you think are happening or is it just Iranian children you are willing to sacrifice?

Livelovebehappy · 01/03/2026 12:30

Does it really matter how they went about removing him? This has been a long time in the making. Other approaches have obviously failed. The regime had their chances. They didn’t take the choices put forward. It is what it is…..

The Ayatollah was 86 years old. Obviously they must have a successor already lined up.

Many Iraqis cheered when Saddam Hussein was killed but it was just the start of the disastrous War on Terror. Do you think that killing the Ayotollah will stop Iran? They can now legitimating claim that they are defending themselves.

Also, eight months ago, Donald Trump was boasting about how US forces had completely obliterated Iran's nuclear arsenal/programme with their air strikes so either the US didn't destroy their nuclear capabilities and Trump was lying then or Iran doesn't have the capability to launch any nuclear weapons and Trump is lying now. Either way he is a liar and a coward who dodged the draft but is happy to send other people's kids to war. Maybe Barron Trump can join the army and do his bit.

How much of a role did Trump actually play in India vs Pakistan?

I am also doubtful of whether Iran will stabilise, though it is good the Ayayollah is gone.

Because for most of us, who don't hear them often, and don't live near an airbase, they are an unusual, intrusive sound. If you know that someone is flying manoeuvres, or, if you live in London, that it's the King's birthday or VE Day, it's just a noise.

If you live in an area that isn't ordinarily in the path of these aircraft, particularly one that is being actively bombed, the noise signals that something is amiss in a way that triggers and physiological anxiety reaction. This shouldn't be even remotely hard to understand.

Are we suggesting there is no way of preventing them from developing those weapons, that doesn’t involve bombing schools etc?

Ok.
I get that you're not prepared to answer the question and happy to exist in a world where there are no shitty choices to be made.

Honestly to me all jet aircraft sound the sodding same - how is this pathetic?

Look there is a RAF plane about to land at Brize Norton, do you want them to announce a "trigger warning "
in case people get "unsettled"?

I'm no fan of Donald Trump, but..

Unpleasant as they both are, what exactly is fascist about either the Ayatollah or Trump?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/03/2026 13:55

On the old basis of "a stopped clock" even Trump will get it right occasionally, and I agree the filthy Iranian regime has to go, but some of us remember Iraqis cheering the allies and celebration when Saddam was removed and look how that turned out

There are so many who apply western norms and fail to understand the shifting - often tribal - loyalties in these countries, and when the result isn't what was hoped for the west gets the blame with the usual self flagellation from assorted hard leftists

At least this may have disrupted things before Iran got its hands on nuclear weapons though, and if so that's something to be grateful for

Hi, OP -

Great post by @ObsessiveGoogler at 12.30.

It is far too soon to know what will happen in Iran. The Ayatollah and his government were unspeakable, but it is hard to know how many will unite around the idea of any reasonably democratic or humane alternative government. Historically regime change in the Middle East has not worked well, to say the least.

Amongst the examples you gave, there is still fighting between Rwanda and the DRC and between Cambodia and Thailand. The situation in Gaza is still unspeakable.

Granted Trump has got NATO allies contributing more, possibly played a role in the release of the Israeli hostages and seems to have played a constructive role in brokering peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Venezuela seems to be an open question with a possible slight overall improvement at the moment for the people, but it is obvious that Trump is there for the oil.

Oh, Iran doesn’t by chance have any oil, does it?

It's 'good' to drop a bomb on a girls school, killing 40 children, then claim it's for 'improving women's rights in Iran?????!' all done by a child rapist lets not forget.

Can you provide a verifiable link showing how , without doubt, that the President of the United States is a ‘Child rapist’??
No matter WHOSE rocket it was I am absolutly sure that it was certainly unintentional .
Were you as vocal When the Ayatollah and his lunatic Islamic clerics authorised the IRPC to fire on protesters killing a mere 35,000 children, women and men?
Or didn’t you care about that as that doesn’t give you chance to vent your hatred for Donald Trump??

Your username is very appropriate.

"He's not very good domestically"

His tightening of border control has significantly reduced drug deaths- I'd say he's an excellent all-rounder, but I agree with you about his sheer dynamism on the global stage
You won't get much agreement on a hand-wringing site like mumsnet, OP, but I appreciate your post.
We're about to join an Iranian couple- good friends- in our city centre to join in the Iranian peaceful protest - it's always peaceful.
Our friends are completely dumbfounded by the left's response to the Iranian plight- the lack of MSM coverage of slaughter of citizens- the unwillingness to criticise an Islamist regime.
It's brought us all closer as we're on the same page but I'm so fucking angry and embarrassed by all the "progressives" in this country; our friends are bewildered. I'm less surprised as it's been a catalogue of hypocrisy from the bekind leftists over the last few years- the scales fell from my eyes about 6 years ago.
Trump could cure cancer, create world peace, you name it and the fashionistas would still bitch about him.

Loudjay · 01/03/2026 14:11

The verifiable links have been redacted in the Eptsein files as you may know

Shegotanology · 01/03/2026 14:16

@LunaDeBallona Considering Trump loves to sue, you would think he'd sue the fuck out of all the people calling him a paedo.
