I'm no fan of Donald Trump, but..

I'm no fan of Trump but imagine if Biden or Harris had won the 2024 election:

Maduro would still be destroying Venezuela

The Ayatollah would still be killing his own people in Iran

Iran would still have nuclear weapons

There would probably still be Israeli hostages in Gaza

India and Pakistan could be at war

As could Armenia and Azerbaijan; Rwanda and DRC; Egypt and Ethiopia; and Cambodia and Thailand

Russia would be in a much stronger position in Ukraine

Other NATO countries would be spending less on defence.

He's not very good domestically but that's an incredible record on foreign affairs. Let's face it: The world would be on fire if Biden or Harris had won. Trump is seen as a strong man around the world and, outside of the west, that's probably respected.

Would, Islamofascist, be more to your taste?

Not really, I get the Islamo part with regards to Ayatollah (but not Trump), but I still don't get what is fascist about either Trump or the Ayatollah.

Aside of course being a buzzword - for example "I was given a parking ticket today", "Oh that's awful- what a fascist!"

"He's not very good domestically"

His tightening of border control has significantly reduced drug deaths- I'd say he's an excellent all-rounder, but I agree with you about his sheer dynamism on the global stage
You won't get much agreement on a hand-wringing site like mumsnet, OP, but I appreciate your post.
We're about to join an Iranian couple- good friends- in our city centre to join in the Iranian peaceful protest - it's always peaceful.
Our friends are completely dumbfounded by the left's response to the Iranian plight- the lack of MSM coverage of slaughter of citizens- the unwillingness to criticise an Islamist regime.
It's brought us all closer as we're on the same page but I'm so fucking angry and embarrassed by all the "progressives" in this country; our friends are bewildered. I'm less surprised as it's been a catalogue of hypocrisy from the bekind leftists over the last few years- the scales fell from my eyes about 6 years ago.
Trump could cure cancer, create world peace, you name it and the fashionistas would still bitch about him.

Who is 'the left' in this instance?

Can you provide a verifiable link showing how , without doubt, that the President of the United States is a ‘Child rapist’??
No matter WHOSE rocket it was I am absolutly sure that it was certainly unintentional .
Were you as vocal When the Ayatollah and his lunatic Islamic clerics authorised the IRPC to fire on protesters killing a mere 35,000 children, women and men?
Or didn’t you care about that as that doesn’t give you chance to vent your hatred for Donald Trump??

Your username is very appropriate.

We don't know for sure that Trump is a child rapist.

We do know that he has sexually assaulted women because he has spoken about this quite openly.

We also know that there have been numerous allegations of rape against him.

And we know that there have been allegations against him from some of the Epstein survivors.

Few of these claims have been tested in court to date. And of course, Trump denies having done anything wrong (with the exception of course of the sexual assaults that he previously boasted about - but perhaps he didn't see these as "wrong"?)

There has been growing pressure in recent weeks from Epstein survivors and others regarding some of the files which have not yet been published and some which have been very heavily redacted. A lot of people have been suggesting that perhaps Trump should be questioned under oath about these matters.

It might be considered rather convenient for a President under such pressure if the attention of the news media were to suddenly shift away from Epstein and towards a foreign war...?

Loudjay · 01/03/2026 14:11

The verifiable links have been redacted in the Eptsein files as you may know

Yes, the first publicity of the missing documents concerning very serious accusations against Trump was just a few days ago. The timing is interesting, isn’t it?

@Locutus2000

Are you really going to do that thing where you pretend not to know what I'm on about?
Maybe just engage with what I've told you- what are your thoughts on my Iranian friends' relief (and that of their families in Iran) at what Trump is doing?
I know you think you know better than them and would love to "Iransplain" to them if you could.

Go Donald - Islamic Revolutionary Guard next on the list! Anyone who shoots their own people in the streets must go!

Oh be fair, they were potentially BAD BAD BAD people, and they could well have been armed, it was just bad luck for the trigger happy ICE officers that on this occasion they were unarmed civilians legally protesting about heavy handed and often illegal detention methods.

There's a difference between falling for the lying, convicted criminal, sex offender and fraudsters BS and the lies of him and his incompetent celebrities and other morons he has installed, and him actually doing anything worthwhile.

Let alone basing it on a something that didn't happen and is just your personal made up alternative fantasy that cant be compared, making it intellectually bankrupt to suggest it is "better" ignoring the above paragraph.

He is an adjudicated sex offender who was convicted in a civil court. He is notoriously litigious and love to sue but, interestingly, he hasn't sued the very many people who have called him a child rapist and a paedophile.

Even MAGA stalwarts like Marjorie Taylor Greene have turned against him due to him starting foreign wars which he had pledged not to do and his conduct over the Epstein files.

His popularity has massively reduced and he needs a distraction. I don't think that it will work though.

What would you call: suppression of protests, executions, moral policing, hostility to liberal democracy, Ultra-nationalism, a cult of personality around a leader, suppression of opposition, and independent media?

WalkDontWalk · 01/03/2026 14:49

Let's face it....

In such discussions 'let's face it' pretends to mean 'here comes an undeniable truth' but always means 'I'm about to trot out an unsupported speculation'.

FlyingApple · 01/03/2026 14:50

Yes I am glad about many things he's done.

So the US is allowed to bomb any country that they see fit because they don't agree with their leadership?

TheMorgenmuffel · 01/03/2026 15:00

🤣🤣🤣 yeah, right.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 01/03/2026 15:06

There have been 3 US deaths reported now. I don't suppose that will go down too well with the American electorate.

Could be communism, could be a theological regime, could be fascism- in fact it could be described as a lot of things.

So you are happy with a regime that promotes suicide bombings and terrorism all over the globe to have nuclear weapons and who slaughtered tens of thousands of their citizens in the street for demonstrating against the cost of living who fills their prisons with people with a different political view - wow

Shegotanology · 01/03/2026 15:11

@1dayatatime Communism and fascism meet around the back, so you're right.

Lesley2022 · 01/03/2026 15:12

No that is not what is happening they are ending the regime if you understand what that means then you would know it is a good thing. The US and ISRAEL have gone above and beyond to make sure that civilians were not bombed. Imagine if you lived in a country that was under the regime it would be awful. I don't agree with war but setting people free from these wacky "world leaders" I do agree. It's an opinion

It’s a bit early to say they have been set free I think.

Set free like the Afghan people perhaps?

You can strongly oppose Iran’s internal repression and regional behavior while also questioning whether war or escalation makes things better. Those are separate issues.
