What outrageously expensive household item would you buy if money were no object?

I'd like solid silver cutlery. I have actually considered getting a couple of place settings, just for me. Also, Herend porcelain but I am so accident-prone, I wouldn't dare.

What would you buy?

I would like a robot lawnmower and robot hoovers (two, one for upstairs and one for downstairs) but they're still a bit too expensive and I'm not convinced the technology is quite good enough yet to justify buying. If I'm going robot I want to be able to give up hoovering and mowing completely not supplement my hoovering and mowing with expensive assistants that I have to maintain.

@hamsterchump
I have 2 robot hoovers , 1 does mopping also !
absolutely fantastic .
Highly recommend them .
I am seriously considering getting a lawnmower one this year too ..

Really unreliable but a thing of beauty, similar to a Dualit toaster

My mum has a Smeg kettle and had to have it replaced 6 times before it’s worked properly for a decent length of time so I’m not surprised.

Never had a Dualit but my Delonghi toaster (and matching kettle) have been fantastic and lasted years, definitely recommend them.

GoGoSuperBug · 01/03/2026 21:29

I would also like the JL Eiderdown duvet.

I would love one of those sub zero glass fronted American style fridge freezer that have an air purifier.

Can I please redo my whole garden? Dies that count? Thd design, landscaping, planting, everything.

Pitstopperils · 01/03/2026 22:10

A shower with a massage shower head.
A totally new kitchen - mine is prime 80s.
A cleaner every other week.
A monthly gardener from Spring until the end of Autumn.
A beautiful old farmhouse style table for the kitchen.

wellstopdoingitthen · 01/03/2026 22:24

I keep dreaming of a fancy bean to cup coffee machine.

StillSmallVoice · 01/03/2026 22:27

I had been eying off some stupid expensive and gorgeous plates from a French company called Gien for a long time. Discovered that Zara do some which are almost identical and a fraction of the price. They are just lovely. And go in the dishwasher.

MrsCarson · 01/03/2026 22:28

I'd have a full set of Le Creuset pots.
I'd get a new dinner service too, some Denby ware would be nice.

Whilst Denby is pretty, being stoneware it can chip.

If you’re going luxury and it’s money no object I’d go fine bone china.

Can you turn the clear glass off? I would always feel I had to stack everything too neatly if everyone could see in and all the leftovers were in there...It's a great idea not to have to open the door though.

TooBusyGazingAtStarss · 01/03/2026 22:38

Hot tap and tap water filter built into the tap x

DilemmaDelilah · 01/03/2026 22:41

And... a complete set of the titanium Always pans, and the bakeware - all of it!

mommatoone · 01/03/2026 22:43

The 10k John Lewis Duvet on the other thread 🤣🤣

Me too 😄

I wanted one for about 5 or 6 years before finally getting one. I am so pleased I got it! Baking things is now so much easier and quicker. We now only eat home made bread, bread rolls and home made breakfast muffins. I will make a batch of bread/ rolls or muffins on a weekend morning then freeze the rest for the week.

I'm also making cakes and biscuits more frequently too as it’s so easy to throw it all in and tidy up the kitchen while it is kneading/whisking things.

The thing i’d quite like for the home is a sauna but that definitely ain’t gonna happen 😆

You can DIY one

If I could afford this fridge freezer, I would also be able to have some beautiful containers to keep my leftovers in!

Seeing into the fridge would be very useful though to monitor juice and milk levels, and to try and entice the kids into eating the fruit!

I mostly like the air filtration to make sure there is no odour! I love blue cheeses, but they can smell!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 01/03/2026 23:25

Oo, I’d also like a bidet. No room for one in my bathroom, sadly.

Kitchenaid stand mixer...I really really want one!

Definitely do it if you can. I thought long and hard but I love it and use it loads. Keep an eye on places like Robert Dyas for offers on out of date colours.

I’m fortunate to have both , my Denby set is used every day and hasn’t chipped at all but the le creuset ceramic ware ( rainbow mugs breakfast plates and bowls are all terribly scratched) I don’t spend on much these days but treasure all my Le Creuset after completing my wish list in the summer with a bread oven - cerise and rainbow

CottonCandyLand · 01/03/2026 23:45

A housekeeper, a butler’s pantry and I’d get rid of all my shit KitchenAid appliances and replace with Bosch (apart from the dishwasher which is already Bosch and is the only appliance to not have given me trouble).

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 01/03/2026 21:12

Ha, I had a lot of Le Creuset given to me by my parents when it was last fashionable in the 80s. I eventually gave it all away as it was so bloody heavy, particularly the big pans.

My item would be a proper stone-built outdoor bread & pizza oven - and maybe to move my house to a climate where you could use it all year round.

We love our Le Creuset ms, got 3 at their Bicester village shops. 2 casserole pots and an oblong one for cooking a whole chicken with stock. They’re used all the time and we love them

I love Denby too.
I don’t get my DM and her generation who had to have at least 3 or 4 china sets of everything and use 1.
We got a full Denby set of everything as a wedding present from an aunt and 5 grown up cousins. We love it and yes it’s for best ‘wear’ but we’ll always have that 1 lovely set
