If you could live in a fictional house from any film...

Which one would it be? I'll go first. The Father Of The Bride house. It's just so lovely and welcoming. I imagine it would be so cozy at Christmas too... I live on my own so obviously it would be me and five cats.

I know most of you will probably say the Mrs Doubtfire house but I cannot be arsed with hills!

I want to live in Green Gables

I wouldn't mind living in any of the houses Anne lives in.

Many of the houses on this thread, such as Pemberley, are too grand for me, I'd prefer something cosier. Maybe something like Aunt Betsey Trotwood's cottage. Or the Faraway Tree.

The English cottage in the Holiday

butternut123 · 20/02/2026 23:24

I love the Home Alone house and also the Holiday mansion in the US

WhosMadeline · 20/02/2026 23:31

Stephen Mangan and Nicola Walker’s house in The Split.

Demi moores apartment in Ghost, though the open stairs would be a nightmare after a few wines.
Monicas apartment in friends, not really for the style but just how alive and happy it seems.

Baxter's apartment in The Apartment. In black and white, obviously.

My favourite film

George Warleggans house in Poldark. It's actually Dyrham Park near Bath and is a National Trust place.

fromthegecko · 20/02/2026 23:51

One of the Art Deco houses they used in ITV's Poirot.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 20/02/2026 23:53

I've been there a couple of times. It's a long trek from the car park 😁.
If I had to chose a National Trust house it would be Coleton Fishacre - or Portland House in Dorset (you can actually rent the latter as a holiday home - and they have an open day once a year)

practical magic, it’s so beautiful

The sleeping with the enemy house that Laura moves to. So cosy, inside and out.

Lucelulu · 21/02/2026 00:32

The house in Milan from This is Love (Villa Necchi)
A remote Greek hotel (Mamma Mia)
Lawrence Durrell’s house on Crete
haha F**k Brexit

BauhausOfEliott · 21/02/2026 00:43

TV rather than film, but Hercule Poirot’s Art Deco flat in the David Suchet version.

Sweetiedarling7 · 21/02/2026 01:04

Bilbo Baggins hobbit house.

PyongyangKipperbang · 21/02/2026 01:09

Button house (west Horsely place) or the Burrow.

RedRec · 21/02/2026 01:13

I saw your title and instantly thought of the Father of the Bride house too.

The beach house in Grace and Frankie. A TV series but I’m sure it’s allowed.

I was going to say this too

Pieceofpurplesky · 21/02/2026 01:35

Mel's cabin in Virgin River.

CypressGrove · 21/02/2026 01:40

I'd go with Howl's moving castle.

Brideshead Castle 😍

That was filmed at Castle Howard in Yorkshire. I agree, it’s lovely.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 21/02/2026 02:00

Ryan Reynolds family home from The Proposal. I would never leave!

With or without the swans?!

Hmmm, obvs Home Alone house for Christmas, Practical Magic home for autumn… let me
ponder for the other seasons

Practical Magic was my first thought, although I am definitely a city girl and couldn't be doing with the small town.
