If you could live in a fictional house from any film...

Which one would it be? I'll go first. The Father Of The Bride house. It's just so lovely and welcoming. I imagine it would be so cozy at Christmas too... I live on my own so obviously it would be me and five cats.

I know most of you will probably say the Mrs Doubtfire house but I cannot be arsed with hills!

The Von Trapp house from the Sound of Music. That staircase!!!

The beach house in Grace and Frankie. A TV series but I’m sure it’s allowed.

This!

Or the house in Mystic Pizza. Similar vibes.

Downton Abbey, complete with butlers, cooks etc, and labradors.

This is what I was going to say!

KiIIingMeDeftly · 20/02/2026 21:40

Father of the Bride, Something's Gotta Give and It's Complicated are all directed by Nancy Meyers and the houses in her films are always beautiful! See also Cameron Diaz's LA mansion and Kate Winslet's (allegedly) Oxfordshire cottage in The Holiday.

The cottage from the holiday including Jude law

Yes. And also including the knitwear 😀

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 20/02/2026 21:42

Grace Kelly's house in High Society. Especially the rotating bar and that swimming pool.

cariadlet · 20/02/2026 21:43

A couple of pp suggested Pemberley but I think that it would be too big - although I would love the grounds. I'd prefer Loungbourn or Barton Cottage (Sense and Sensibility).

The Three Chimneys from The Railway Children is also lovely.

IHeartKingThistle · 20/02/2026 21:43

If animated is allowed, and I appreciate this is niche, the house on the lake where the grumpy lion lives in Sing 2. Oh my.

I lived in pretty much that cottage for a few years once. It was nice, but I wouldn't do it again. These days, give me Cameron Diaz's LA house all day long - and my current home is in many ways a (much) smaller version of that.

ETA sadly there was no Jude Law, or even a Jack Black.

Diane Keaton’s Hampton beach house in Somethings Gotta Give.

Thank you!! I came on to say this one.

OnARainyDay2012 · 20/02/2026 21:44

The practical magic house. Ideally without the dead guy under the roses!

Chiefangel · 20/02/2026 21:45

The house in Blithe Spirit (1945) from the outside shot. Always loved it.

EleanorRavenclaw · 20/02/2026 21:45

The Cinderella house in the Lily James film version or Howard’s End in the Emma Thompson film.

cariadlet · 20/02/2026 21:46

Can we expand to houses from TV series?

I'd love to live in so many of the houses in Death in Paradise.

Longbourn has been for sale for years, if you fancy it:

If I had the money, I'd be tempted. It's in a gorgeous part of the country.

The Pride and Prejudice Bennet family home has returned to the market after two years

On the occasion of Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary, we tour Luckington Court in Wiltshire, the Bennet family home in the BBC’s 1995 cult adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle

The Brown’s house in Paddington. Gorgeous.

This is the one I first thought of and was coming to say!

Bertiebiscuit · 20/02/2026 21:49

Not actually a film, but i want that house on the beach in Grace and Frankie. I could swim in the sea every morning.. And sit in that fabulous garden

Buddinghell · 20/02/2026 21:51

The house in the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe ( yes it’s a film too). Theres other secrets in it I’m sure.
