está buena la primavera

It's a glorious spring day here. Over a thousand people have got back safely to the UK.

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2026 12:39

She did, She said that Starmer has ‘a sea of orcs and goons’

I mean, it’s not even a good use of imagery.
Davey was ok actually, but the SNP auestion just now was poor, and the Tory (I think) who asked if Starmer’s ‘dithering’ had damaged the special relationship needs to be told to wind his neck in.

cardibach · 04/03/2026 12:45

Glorious day here too @placemats
I did my volunteer dog walk without a coat, never mind the thermals and waterproof I’ve needed since what feels like time immemorial.
Additional voluntary tax of the lovely Rufio

That was Gareth Bacon.

Starmer's reply

"Hanging on to President Trump's latest words is not the special relationship."

Yes. Excellent answer. He’s completely right there. As if anyone can controlor predict how Trump will react anymore. We need to do what’s right for this country (and legally) and not worry about him, while still, as Starmer says, sharing intel with the US forces.

Looks at todays crop of "politicians" and weeps.

Don't want to start the "was Churchill a hero or evil” debate. But he was arguably pretty incompetent in a his role of (I think Chancellor?) in the 20s. He really came into his own when tested and under pressure (and older). And there were plenty of other politicians at the time around him who were meh.

I don't want to trash Churchill. He rose to the occasion but there's a tendancy of romanticising people from the past as being greater when really they were just capable of meeting circumstances**. Even Kemi Badenoch is smart and has shown backbone at times. She just seems brain rotted from being permanently online to me.
**Arguably a more important trait

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2026 13:30

The Fake History chapter on him was a good read

I’m not a massive Churchill fan, though I agree he was probs the right man for the war time job. I just think those quotes are, in the case of the first correct and witty and in the case of the second just funny! I think there were more witty exchanges between politicians in the past.

Yes. Such a good book.

Karistyleaftea · 04/03/2026 15:13

Terrible performance from the Leader of the opposition today.
IMO she came across as a petulant teenager.
I think she will be out of this role very soon.
Reading the room is not in her skill set.

Does she even know there’s a room?

She doesn't read and is never in the room.

BIWI · 04/03/2026 16:14

... and yet, The Others seem to think she's great and performing really well!

Relatively or absolutely ?

And is it the room where it happens?

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2026 17:16

Maybe someone was in the room next door whispering instructions
