Don't want to start the "was Churchill a hero or evil” debate. But he was arguably pretty incompetent in a his role of (I think Chancellor?) in the 20s. He really came into his own when tested and under pressure (and older). And there were plenty of other politicians at the time around him who were meh.
I don't want to trash Churchill. He rose to the occasion but there's a tendancy of romanticising people from the past as being greater when really they were just capable of meeting circumstances**. Even Kemi Badenoch is smart and has shown backbone at times. She just seems brain rotted from being permanently online to me.
