@persephonia -yes, he did go out pre the Afghanistan/Pakistan conflict from the sound of it. He had to go there as France threw him/his mates out of France, he said.

He’s touring places with a view to exposing how the small boats is a scam/unnecessary/can be stopped. I’m not sure this border was the next natural stop after Calais, but what do I know.

I think some people do go to countries to see how they are, as an interest/extreme hobby perhaps - I read some fascinating articles from a guy who went to North Korea, a while back, but I ‘think’ on this stop he’s hoping to prove the only Afghans who leave Afghanistan are ‘bad people’, as it’s a great place.

I honestly find this beyond stupidity, though quite saddening people go to these lengths to show their hatred of asylum seekers is the right thing.

Not sure how easy it will be for them to leave/get home - I don’t wish them dead for the insanity- but I would find it annoying if resources have to be found to help them.

Hope that’s only going to the nearest safe country …

Well Badenoch admitted she’d jump to Trump’s orders. Blind faith.

I think they all ought to be fairly supportive of the government on this - not warmongering in Parliament just to be awkward and showing they’re Trump ass lickers.

Keni will never beat Farage on that front either so it’s pointless for her to be doing this.

PandoraSocks · 03/03/2026 07:38

Poor old Bob Jenrick. His "scoop" about Reeves yestrday didn't make much of an impact. His timing was rather off!

I had a thought this morning about the British couple who are in prison in Iran. There's going to be no hope for some sort of compromise to be reached now.

@MsJinks I agree with everything in your post. I am sure St. Kemi will lobby a few insults at Starmer tomorrow. Some solidarity would be appropriate, but she's completely incapable of that sort of nuanced political thinking.

BIossomtoes · 03/03/2026 07:51

Starmer’s between a rock and a hard place here. If he resists the war mongering he’s accused of putting the troops we have in places like Cyprus at risk and relying on other countries to protect them. If he gives in to Trump the comparisons with Blair will start immediately. He literally can’t win.

Notonthestairs · 03/03/2026 07:56

I'd like anyone who is pushing for our Armed Forces to get more involved, to spell out what assistance/aid they think the UK should provide after the war ends.

MsJinks · 03/03/2026 08:08

@PandoraSocksBob Jenrick just hasn’t got that ‘luck’ that is perhaps necessary to progress- in fact he seems to have the actual opposite- I don’t actually mind or feel sorry for him though.

I do feel dreadfully for the couple in Iran - and it is totally different to the Raise the Flag guys, and not just because I don’t agree with their views - just a stupid thing to do, whereas the couple were continuing their dreams and had planned. I’d been thinking Yvette was a better bet than Boris to organise/press for their release but obviously that’s off the table now - so awful.

The world to visit is getting smaller again - Russia and Syria off my dream trips a good while back, and now wish I’d taken an opportunity to do a trip to Israel from Cyprus a few years back but thought I’d do it a different time, but Ukraine off a relative’s actual planned trip a few years ago and currently Dubai for this year, whatever I think of that, it is disappointing.

That would require putting some thought into it.

As was said in a earlier post, they have made quite the u-turn from threads that Starmer was sending their sons to war with Russia.

Excellent news with very welcome u-turn by government in House of Commons this evening, pledging to restore the Electoral Commission's independence. Democracy is strengthened by having an independent regulator.

(Labour had previously omitted from its legislative plans acting on this.)

It’s amazing, isn’t it? Almost as if they can’t remember/decide what they think from one day to the next.

DuncinToffee · 03/03/2026 09:00

Trump is complaining that the relationship is not what it was

I am glad to hear that.

Poll today, Greens highest polling, Reform lowest since April 25.

There is a "Media pushing Starmer to war" thread running and it is quite heartening. Even those who are anti-Starmer are supporting his stance.

That poll is pretty bad for Labour @DuncinToffee . Hopefully they might start listening.

PandoraSocks · 03/03/2026 09:31

The seat model for that poll is mad. No-one could form a majority government, even in coalition.

RFM: 227 (+222)
GRN: 135 (+131)
LDM: 92 (+20)
CON: 59 (-62)
SNP: 48 (+39)
LAB: 40 (-371)
PLC: 20 (+16)
Others: 10 (+5)

Well that should be the end of Blue Labour (or it ought to be).

the self same people who want to get rid of the foreign aid budget and who don't accept an asylum system, want the UK actively bombing the ME. Make it make sense!

After a charming weekend with friends (and their adult just started Uni grandchildren 😧) for a a milestone birthday (not mine !), vague themes emerged from those born this side of the millennium.

  • Reform ? "Just a political party"
  • Greens are the only party that are not seen to be reheating yesterdays dinner.
  • Nigel Farage is far funnier when he loses than when he wins.

The latter point seems to be a product of everything existing in the multiverse of social media.

Anecdata obviously. But I did find myself wondering if that would have been what an 18 year me would have thought.

It would be funnier if the country could en masse privately agree to game the polls so Farage thinks Reform are going to win only to lose spectacularly. Its not possible to have that sort of coordination. But it would be really really funny.

That may well be happening. I know if I was 18, I'd might well say "reform" to a pollster for a laugh

Meanwhile here is a rare clip of a GB News presenter really grilling a Restore spokespuppet - it's a review by MaxRobspierre 😀

I dunno. It happened with the census when a statistically significant number said their religion was Jedi.
