How many glasses of water do you have a day?

If a glass is a pint?

I’ve drank almost three pints today and will probably have another three before bed. I don’t have to force myself or anything, I’m thirsty if I drink any less than this a day.

DH thinks it’s excessive and my family are always teasing me about drinking a lot of water. I don’t understand how they’re not more thirsty.

How much do you drink?

I mainly drink water so about 1 - 1.5 litres of water and then a couple of other drinks like tea with oat milk, peppermint tea, green tea or lemon and ginger tea. I’m quite active, run 3 times a week, do a couple of gym classes, walk the dogs etc and find that’s enough fluids for me.

Speak to your doctor if you’re concerned.

I drink 5 mugs of tea a day (about 1400ml) plus 3 small glasses of water with tablets (about 450ml)

So almost 2l,but not all just water.

If you are craving water as in needing to gulp lots, you might want to get yourself checked for diabetes.

Thank you. I’ve always been the same. I couldn’t imagine eating a meal without a pint of water to wash it down. No other symptoms of diabetes.

About 1.5 litres, not because I’m thirsty but because I believe it’s a healthy thing to do.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 15/02/2026 17:40

Am like you, constantly drinking. Had a diabetes test and Im at the upper end of 'normal' but still just within. Always been like this though even when I was very slim.

Do get a medication- related dry mouth though so I sip constantly partly because of that.

ThisHonestJoker · 15/02/2026 17:40

None. Only coffee, Would only drink water if I neede to take tablets.

In what way do you feel thirsty OP?
Do you have a dry mouth alot of the time?
Needing to 'gulp something down' with after meals isn't normal for most I don't think?
I do think everyone's normal is different.
I often have my last drink of the day at work, so before 5pm.
Its not deliberate, it just might not occur to me to have a drink once I'm home.

I also dont have a drink before I get to work. Though thats mostly just my routine. I get up, we get ready, we leave the house.
I have breakfast at work mid morning maybe.

Just thirsty. I don’t think I get a dry mouth, I just feel thirsty. I could never eat my evening meal and go to bed without a drink, I’d be choking.

I'm absolutely amazed by the number of pp who say they never drink water!

I make a pot of coffee for breakfast , have a cup of tea at lunch time and make a pot of tea in the evening.

But I do try and drink water during the day - not full glasses but sips of it all day. And I have a glass of water by my bed at night and try to drink at least one glass during the night, sometimes more.
I feel very aware I don't drink enough water. I always take some out with me when I leave the house.

I recently had cataract operations and drinking lots of water in the recovery period was pivotal. So I've upped my water intake accordingly.

PauliesWalnuts · 15/02/2026 18:20

Probably about 3 litres. I don’t like tea or coffee and I used to drink nothing but Vimto but after forking out a week’s salary on fillings last month due to a lifetime of scrummy Vimmy, I am trying to break the habit. So, a weak Vimto first thing then water the rest of the day. I drink it with every meal and before bed and get a bit anxious if I don’t have a drink of water with me for some reason.

ilikeeggs · 15/02/2026 18:25

I probably drink 3 pints of water a day and then 3 coffees and 3 teas.

justtheotheronemrswembley · 15/02/2026 18:32

I've never drunk that much water. In winter I'd drink maybe two small tumblers a day and one of those is when I take medication. The rest of the time I drink either tea or coffee - probably three or four of each, and I switch to decaf in the evenings. On a long car journey of a couple of hours I'll usually drink a bottle of water. In hot summer weather I will drink a lot more water, probably about two pints or thereabouts.

Starlight7080 · 15/02/2026 18:38

About 2 litres a day . Couple cups of tea.
I get a headach if I have not drank enough water . Plus I can tell the difference with my skin and my stomach if I have not been drinking enough .
Also its great for blood pressure and for other health reasons.
But I get a lot of people just really dont like drinking plain water.
Definitely hate having to pee so much .

2old4thispoo · 15/02/2026 18:48

I drink 2 to 3 litres of water a day.

Always surprised to read people only drink tea, coffee or juice

JBJ · 15/02/2026 19:03

I drink about 3 litres of water a day. Other than one cup of tea first thing, it’s the only thing I drink though.

lljkk · 15/02/2026 19:12

The tap water was famously not nice where I grew up so I have never liked water much, I'll reach for most other things first, hot drinks in winter preferably. I drink a lot of teas or juices. Probably almost no water daily in winter & a fair amount daily on hot summer days.

I've never quite understood people who need a drink with a meal.

I have a lot of high-water foods, like soups, too.

elQuintoConyo · 15/02/2026 19:13

One big glass in the morning (not a pint). 4-5 mugs of tea before 4pm, sips from a water bottle at work until around 7pm. Nothing after or is be up peeing all night - actually I do anyway, fecking menopause.

I also eat lots of fruit and veg, lots of water in that.

CherryBlossom321 · 15/02/2026 19:16

I can’t drink any fluid with a meal, it makes me nauseous for some reason. But throughout the day, five decaf teas, and probably two pints of water.

Crispbuttyandamugoftea · 15/02/2026 19:20

None, but lots and lots of tea and coffee (and wine)

catera · 15/02/2026 19:21

3 big mugs of tea and about 2l of water. I also get thirsty. If I’m exercising it might be closer to 2.5l

can’t have water at my desk so I tend to gulp a lot back on lunch!

Tiramisutoyou · 15/02/2026 19:22

Zero unless thirsty

Sweetiedarling7 · 15/02/2026 19:23

I have a 500ml glass at least x 5 daily. Very weak sugar free squash as I can’t take to plain water at all. Plus usually x 1 cup of tea.
Having had kidney stones last year I am very aware of how much I drink so I monitor it on nutracheck

CoastalCalm · 15/02/2026 19:24

3 litres minimum , today I’ve had half as squash though as was having a bored of plan day - I have kidney disease

wahwahwaa · 15/02/2026 19:29

Amazed by how much tea and coffee people drink! Wow.

I have no idea how much water I drink, I would guess around 2.5 litres. I drink it all day. Also can’t eat a meal without a glass of water. One coffee per day. Tea once in a blue moon.

MaryBeardsShoes · 15/02/2026 19:33

I must drink around 2.5litres of water plus two or three mugs of hot drink eg tea/coffee/herbal teas, and sometimes a glass of something alcoholic or fizzy.

Like you I always need a drink with a meal, plus I really worry about having bad breath and I get a weird taste in my mouth if I don’t drink enough. I also get a fuzzy head and very tired when I’m dehydrated.

Msmfailedusbad · 15/02/2026 19:37

I drink an excessive amount. To the point that I get anxious if i don’t have a glass on the go . But am now having medical investigations , aware it’s not normal, and have a few other symptoms that may point to an underlying condition unfortunately.

WeAllHaveWings · 15/02/2026 19:38

2-2.5L which is 4-5 pint glasses a day. Usually drink tap water at room temperature.

One when I wake up, and one at both lunch and dinner.

Then a glass sipped during day while working and another 600-700ml of clear protein drink sipped during evening.

I don’t drink tea or coffee.
