How many glasses of water do you have a day?

If a glass is a pint?

I’ve drank almost three pints today and will probably have another three before bed. I don’t have to force myself or anything, I’m thirsty if I drink any less than this a day.

DH thinks it’s excessive and my family are always teasing me about drinking a lot of water. I don’t understand how they’re not more thirsty.

How much do you drink?

Probably about two litres of water.

But I don’t drink any other drinks, I don’t like tea or coffee, don’t have juice or fizzy drinks, or alcohol. And I’m quite a headachey person, I notice if I don’t drink enough.

User253853 · 15/02/2026 21:40

I drink quite a lot. Two mugs of hot drinks in the morning, about 10 large glasses of water throughout the day and about 3 more glasses during the night.

Fizbosshoes · 15/02/2026 21:41

I grew up in the 80s/90s I dont remember ever having water as a kid, or my parents drinking water. My dad used to drink up to 12 cups of coffee a day! 😳🤣

firstofallimadelight · 15/02/2026 21:42

I have 3 pints of water which is roughly 1.5 litres. Then I have 3 decaf coffees and 2 teas/ green tea which is around 1. 2 litres. Sometimes I have extra water or a kombucha which takes me to around 3litres

I know!
i grew up on milk, milky tea, squash or pop. Nobody drank water!

Tiramisutoyou · 15/02/2026 21:44

We do not need all this water - it’s a fad - your body is a finely tuned instrument - you don’t need to keep flooding it and washing it out

That’s because it’s not needed

it’s a stupid marketing ploy to get people to pay £3 for a bottle of water at the airport - absolutely ludicrous

can’t believe people fall for it and carry those stupid big water carriers

Tiramisutoyou · 15/02/2026 21:46

RaraRachael · 15/02/2026 20:06

None.

I'd be forever running to the toilet if I drank 5 pints of water a day.

That’s because it’s going straight through doing nothing for you

That’s quite a broad statement. There’s lots of reasons some people need to drink more than they think, WLI is an example.

Pollqueen · 15/02/2026 21:47

Lots. I drink a lot of water

I always laugh at the 'you should drink 6-8 glasses per day' surely that depends on the size of the glass, which they never define!

Op do you eat lots of ready meals or have lots of salt because lots of salt or salty food does make me thirsty.

No, I never ever buy ready meals. Never put salt on my food (I use other herbs and spices). I get McDonald’s now and then maybe every month or so. Order takeaway maybe twice a year.

I try and cook from scratch, although will buy the odd sandwich for lunch or bag of sweets or whatever.

I love drinking water. About 8 glasses here. I get dehydrated if i hardly have anything

Fizbosshoes · 15/02/2026 21:51

I got to the loo probably 5 times during a working day if I even have a litre of water (and 500ml of other drinks) Id be on the loo half the day if I drank 2 or more litres!

Im quite small , I think i saw a calculation that I need 1.3 litres which is more in the realms of realistic for me

IceOnTheLake · 15/02/2026 21:51

Drinking excessive amounts of water is a modern trend. I've just checked and fior my weight, 2 litres of fluid (that includes in food) is what I need on a normal day, more if it's hot or I'm very active. Any more just goes straight through and is pointless.

Of course there are examples but not ordinarily

it just gets weed out and washes through all the minerals you need

out body tells us when we need water through thirst

Exactly!

Pasta4Dinner · 15/02/2026 21:53

About 3-4 big glasses of water, unless at gum then more. On top I have about 8 cups of tea!

My MIL did not believe in drinking liquids. In the last few years of her life it caused massive issues with her kidneys and definitely shortened her life.

saltandvinegarpringles · 15/02/2026 21:54

None. I have coffee, fruit juice or Diet Coke.

Why would I sit feeling thirsty when I could have a drink?

likelysuspect · 15/02/2026 21:56

No plain water or cold drinks. Tea, coffee or hot water with a splash of milk

Very very rarely thirsty except if I eat shit (like tonight have eaten chocolates so now that sugar will make me thirsty the worst thing for thirst I think is sugar)

Not necessarily, you need to be drinking high volumes in short periods to be impacting electrolytes, drinking steadily throughout the day steadily maintains hydration, even high rates or urination doesn’t mean the water was pointless. I’ve looked into this a lot when I was struggling with low blood pressure (more sensitive to dehydration), since upping my intake I’ve seen a huge improvement in my skin and digestion.

People have always drank liquids.

Yes they fought wars and marched the length of the country on beer and wine

all this water drinking is ridiculous

cantankerousoldcrone · 15/02/2026 22:00

Maybe one glass. Mostly just drink tea and coffee.
