How many glasses of water do you have a day?

If a glass is a pint?

I’ve drank almost three pints today and will probably have another three before bed. I don’t have to force myself or anything, I’m thirsty if I drink any less than this a day.

DH thinks it’s excessive and my family are always teasing me about drinking a lot of water. I don’t understand how they’re not more thirsty.

How much do you drink?

People drink when they’re thirsty. How can drinking tap water be a fad?

People forcing 3 L down a day is not quneching thirst- it’s ridiculous

Multiple scientific studies have shown that water helps migraines. Not for everyone obviously, and not completely. And it’s still annoying to have people suggest solutions you’re definitely already well aware of. But water does not make no difference whatsoever to migraines.

I probably drink the least 'water' among my friends, some are real water drinkers of a great amount, we all suffer with ongoing migraines.

Im not saying no one needs to be hydrated but I think it take less than we think to do that and doesnt improve the myriad of things that it claims to.

I drink more than that every day, usually drank from the tap in a glass. I drink it because I’m thirsty. I have been doing so for over 20 years. What is the problem?

It's the obsession with 'hydration', not being able to go anywhere without a massive water bottle and the massive sales of single use plastic water bottles. That's the fad.

Fizbosshoes · 15/02/2026 22:56

I think drinking water rather than having a diet than contains water is the difference.
Previously I think (but stand to be corrected) water intake included water in fruit vegetables, food like soup for example and other drinks like tea coffee or squash....so you didnt necessarily have to drink 8 glasses of water.

Now it has become a thing you must drink <insert amount> of water per day. Partly probably marketing from evian or other brands but with more processed foods and more salty foods, it might be the case we need more water than previously....although im sure it varies from person to person.
On similar threads ive read people feel dehydrated if they dont drink eg3 or 4 litres of water/day. I dont know if I could even drink that much water a day at all , or without needing the toilet every 5 min!

I don't remember anyone,, adults or children, drinking water when I was young.

I got fed up trying to teach children who were too busy slurping water or juice out of huge bottles on their desks, to listen to me half the time. Not to mention books ruined when said bottles leaked in their schoolbag.

Goodness knows how we survived with out all this obsessive water drinking.

LilyLemonade · 15/02/2026 23:03

I might drink half or maybe a whole small glass of water with lunch and same with dinner. I don't like drinking water very much. I drink 3 mugs of coffee a day and around 3 or 4 cups of tea. I don't tend to get thirsty either.

thepurplepenguin · 15/02/2026 23:03

At least 2 litres of water and 800ml of tea. Sometimes a soft drink with dinner. Probably another 500 ml of water if I've done a long run or hard cardio class.

My mum is convinced there's something medically wrong with me because she drinks like two half cups of tea and one teeny weeny glass of water a day. I think it's what your body is used to.

I remember being incredibly thirsty at school.

I find the more I drink the more I feel thirsty. Have an real oral fixation so need to sip drinks, smoke, vape, chew etc all the time.

Strokethefurrywall · 15/02/2026 23:20

I live in the Caribbean and don’t even drink that much water and I’m ridiculously active.
I've only recently started lugging around my “emotional support Stanley” as I train everyday and wasn’t replenishing nearly enough in electrolytes. So my water always, always has electrolytes because I’m not big on sipping plain water unless it’s hot.
When I’m not training, I survive on tea and black coffee.

Some people need loads of water and get dry mouth or thirsty easily, others like me, really have to force themselves to drink enough fluids. It’s not rocket science. People are different, who knew.

Thecows · 15/02/2026 23:34

4ltrs a day is just insane

Needspaceforlego · 16/02/2026 00:15

Op if you've been doing this a very long time, it almost sounds like a habit, or something. It certainly isn't your body needs it.

I never feel the need to wash food down other than salty or sugary stuff.

CanIHelpItIfImALittleTense · 16/02/2026 00:23

I'll drink water when I work out. Maybe a glass at night occasionally if it's very hot.

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/02/2026 00:26

Over three litres a day. But I don't drink anything else (no tea, coffee, fizzy drinks and only juice if out for breakfast!). Plus the odd wine - always taken with water

ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 · 16/02/2026 00:29

I have about 4 coffee's and atleast 2 litres of water and a pint of diluted weak juice

DeftGoldHedgehog · 16/02/2026 00:32

How is your wee? That's the test. If it's clear or very pale yellow then you are drinking too much water. I have about 4 x 500ml glasses of water a day and two small black coffees.

I have to drink during a meal. Im thirsty. It is not a habit. Not salty or sugery either

Previously I think (but stand to be corrected) water intake included water in fruit vegetables, food like soup for example and other drinks like tea coffee or squash....so you didnt necessarily have to drink 8 glasses of water.

Recommended water intake still includes all water consumed. Including water in food and other drinks. You don’t need to drink 8 glasses of water a day if you are getting water from other sources. Even meat is mostly water.

VivienneDelacroix · 16/02/2026 00:40

I drink about 6 pints of water plus two or three hot drinks. I just feel very dry without it. A friend one said to me "oh yes, you're quite arid!" 🤣

Ohfudgeoff · 16/02/2026 00:46

ChubbyPuffling · 15/02/2026 17:17

I drink 5 mugs of tea a day (about 1400ml) plus 3 small glasses of water with tablets (about 450ml)

So almost 2l,but not all just water.

If you are craving water as in needing to gulp lots, you might want to get yourself checked for diabetes.

3 regular tea, 1 or 2 decaf tea (~1200ml)
1 large glass of very weak cordial (~300ml)
And about 500ml in my water bottle across the day.

You are being daft. I drink 3L+ fluids a day and I don't force it down. I need it, because yano, I'm thirsty?

Everyone is different.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 16/02/2026 00:55

I drink about 6 to 8 x 8oz glasses a day. I checked with my nephrologist (I’m a kidney donor) and he said people don’t generally drink enough water, and the amount I’m drinking is good.

When I was being tested to donate, the amount of water I drank made a significant difference to my kidney function tests.

Rayqueen2026 · 16/02/2026 01:17

None I hate the taste of water hot drinks for me

Flomingho · 16/02/2026 02:56

About 2-3 litres of water each day and 3 coffees and peppermint teas. Find keeping water intake up harder in winter though.
