Just that. Interested to see if anyone says what I'm thinking...

Sutton Hoo was the most underwhelming place ever. I was expecting more than a field

It IS more than a field! You can literally see the shapes where the excavations took place (fabulous Theatre in the forest in the summer, too).

BooksandCats123 · 25/01/2026 14:45

Jura Scotland, pretty but boring.

Norfolk 🫣

Ha Ha! Yeah, OK, that’s a valid answer.

And I know of what I speak, since I’ve lived there for 35 years.

Maybe that’s why I used to travel so much. 😃

Gahr · 25/01/2026 14:46

I haven't been to any holiday destinations I find 'boring', there is usually something of interest to be found. The closet was probably Lisbon, everyone raved about it. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't get the hype, either. The food and shopping were mediocre and the museums weren't great, either (the fashion museum was closed for refurbishment when I went)

christmassytimeagain · 25/01/2026 14:47

I absolutely love Liverpool. They’ve spent a fortune on the city centre and it shows, no empty shops, fabulous hotels, restaurants bars and shopping

Quite specific, and actually I love a museum but the British Museum, dear god I have hated that place since I was a child.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/01/2026 14:47

Bulgaria.

Portmeirion. It looks lovely but the reality is all the buildings are hotel rooms. There are 2 shops selling overpriced homewares and a couple of places to eat. There isn't actually anything to do and it only takes about an hour to walk round the whole place.

I live locally. It's nice, but expensive. One of my favourite part of it was actually the surrounding gardens & woodlands rather than the buildings, as nice as they are in the sunshine.

Olderkids · 25/01/2026 14:47

Wick. Booked three nights to visit John O’Groats and surrounding area which was three nights too long. Looking for good places to eat and Tesco cafe appears in the top 5!

SurferRona · 25/01/2026 14:47

Barcelona. Most of Spain (excl. the Alhambra. Fascinating).

Didcot Railway centre.

Eh?

It's fine

Brussels.

Another vote for Brussels. Soooo boring.

Natural history museum. Cannot understand why people rave about it.

I agree. I’ve been on many school trips there and dread it every time.

Statsquestion2 · 25/01/2026 14:38

Or people just have different tastes in things…it’s almost like we’re not all the same…imagine?!

I don’t think anyone is suggesting that we should all like the same things, but if someone can’t find anything to interest them in Rome or Iceland or Berlin then I genuinely can’t imagine that they find anything interesting at all.

McChubble · 25/01/2026 14:49

Canberra!

DefinitelyNotMaybe · 25/01/2026 14:49

Aberystwyth. Even typing it makes me want to neck some sertraline.

Stancan · 25/01/2026 14:49

I can't believe people are saying places like Valencia, Rome and Brussels! So much culture and history and different foods. For me it was centre parcs - so ordinary (except for the spa).

Yes, I’ve been to Belgium lots of times and Brussels is dull. Day trip territory for sure

BnuchOfCnuts · 25/01/2026 14:49

I went on a ‘Mystery Coach Tour’ and we ended up in Windsor one day and Stratford Upon Avon the next. I have no interest in the Royal Family or Shakespeare so found the whole weekend extremely dull. Also Windsor was very run down, I was shocked.

VioletandMauve · 25/01/2026 14:50

Tenerife. Awful place

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 25/01/2026 14:50

Stonehenge

Violetparis · 25/01/2026 14:50

Rural Norfolk

Notmytelescope · 25/01/2026 14:51

Trieste! Tried and failed to find anywhere to eat a meal - not even a pizza. Walked for miles and miles right into the centre and nothing was open.

Bude in Cornwall. Beach is simply glorious but the town is a dump of epic proportions.

Depends what you want. We stayed in Bude every year when the kids were younger - we mostly did day trips around Cornwall, but as they got older, we let them go out on their own to the shops, for ice cream, to play mini golf. It felt safe and there was plenty to keep them occupied. It's no worse than many seaside towns imo.

purpleygrey · 25/01/2026 14:51

oh and duxford museum. That was awful too. Once you’ve seen one plane you have seen them all.
