@NuffSaidSam
i am genuinely curious what makes you think Iceland is exciting?

I found the active volcano and the hot water shooting up out of the ground quite exciting! Not to mention the Northern Lights, the volcanic beach, the waterfalls, the scenery, the snow!!

But I live in London so we don't have much in the way of volcanoes and geysers. I imagine if you live somewhere where they're commonplace it's not exciting for you.

The whole of Germany?! Because it's all the same isn't it? 🤣 Forget the fascinating history, beautiful lakes and mountains, impressive museums and castles, sports, music and no doubt much more. How can a whole country possibly be "boring"?

My uncle visited Germany a few times and always told me it wasn’t boring at all.

Despite that, he never stayed long.

Although that was in 1944 and he was at 20,000 feet.

Rituelec · 25/01/2026 14:54

As a child we frequented the Mary Rose museum on a regular bases and despised it, but an art gallery was the most boring school trip.

MrsAvocet · 25/01/2026 14:54

I can honestly say I have never been anywhere that I have found boring. Everywhere I've ever been has had something of interest. Probably the closest I have ever been to being bored on holiday is Cannes, and to be fair to the Riviera, I was on crutches recovering from an accident and it was absolutely red hot. I couldn't do most of the things we'd planned in advance and I was exhausted after hopping a hundred yards so spent most of the holiday sitting by the pool. But we were there for some of the international fireworks festival which was amazing and we ate some fabulous food so it wasn't all bad!

Apfelkuchen · 25/01/2026 14:54

Boring in a bad way, Madeira. Lots of impressive scenery, but made me feel claustrophobic and it was just, well, boring.

Despite being a huge 100mph explorer when I travel, the Maldives was boring in a good way. Far less to do or see than anywhere I have ever visited, but in a warm, beautiful hug kind of a way.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting that we should all like the same things, but if someone can’t find anything to interest them in Rome or Iceland or Berlin then I genuinely can’t imagine that they find anything interesting at all.

But I loved Rome!, never been to Berlin so can’t say, I didn’t enjoy Iceland…THAT IS OK…I’m ok with that. I loved lots of places…Paris, Rome, Vienna, Barbados, greek islands, Perth Australia, Edinburgh, London, Grenada, New York, Vermont…why would you assume I can’t find interest In other places JUST because I didn’t love Iceland?

Rituelec · 25/01/2026 14:55

I now live in Suffolk and I honestly find it so dull most of the time, though other people seem to love it.

Hervey Bay in Australia is our running joke as the most boring destination (and a particularly awful night in a youth hostel). We went there to visit Fraser Island, which was worth visiting, but the town of Hervey Bay was dire.

Best place in Aus for whale watching. You can (or could 10 years ago) with humpbacks!

DualPower · 25/01/2026 14:56

Malaga, Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Lanzarote, Tenerife

DoItTwoDay · 25/01/2026 14:56

The chocolate museum in Bruges.

I love chocolate, I enjoy 'the history of...' type things in general and i'm fairly easy going and easily pleased.

Fuck me. Dry as dust, absolutely soul destroying after 15 mins.

What did you like about Berlin? I remember thinking that it was very grey and depressing.

Well obviously the history is fascinating, checkpoint Charlie, the wall, the museums. The Jewish museum and the topography of terror. Heartbreaking and I admit not for everyone.
Charlottenburg Palace was beautiful and I took a river boat from there back into the city centre which was magical. Nice weather helped.
Amazing galleries and museums, the reichstag, Brandenburg gate, unter den linden …
I do like a decent German doner kebab as well 😆 I like how they have made them into a perfectly legitimate lunchtime sandwich option.
I stayed in a nice hotel near the zoo, which is one of the best in the world. Shopping was decent too, I was very near the Bikini Berlin mall which was excellent.

Haugesund, Norway

tescofishcakes · 25/01/2026 14:57

Both Oslo and Stockholm are really boring. Oslo in particular- though I’m not sure anyone says it’s interesting tbf. Stockholm is half a day at best - maybe in the summer a full day as you could go on a boat to one of the islands. But it’s grey, cold, and just the opposite of vibrant. I don’t rate it at all.

also didn’t love Florence as much as I’d hoped, but love Rome and Venice. Been to Milan several times and there’s not much to do really so best to get yourself on a train to Lake Como and then it’s much better.

yes to Canberra being boring - it’s like Milton Keynes. Soulless and very uninspiring architecture.

my fav place is New York - anyone who doesn’t like it will not be my friend - it’s where life happens! I adore it.

Barcelona. Most of Spain (excl. the Alhambra. Fascinating).

Barcelona? You have to be kidding. There is so much to do and see there. Amazing museums, the beach, great food, good shopping. I would go there every holiday if I could, sadly my husband isn't as obsessed as I am but he still likes it.

Good to know about Stockholm. I loved Copenhagen but I am wary of the Nordic countries as I like heat on my holidays.

Stancan · 25/01/2026 14:59

Actually I've thought of somewhere else...Tunisia. wasn't much to do there other than the hotel and beach. As a teenager it was very dull.

That’s a shame, Tenerife and Lanzarote have the most amazing national parks. Timanfaya and Teide are both stunning.

NotMeAtAll · 25/01/2026 14:59

My favourite cities are Stockholm and Berlin. I must be weird. 🤣

Crinkle77 · 25/01/2026 15:02

Harrogate was pretty boring. Not much to do there at all.

SabrinaThwaite · 25/01/2026 15:02

I have a very low boredom threshold for car museums, which unfortunately is not shared by DH. I know if he is suggesting a weekend break destination then there’ll be some kind of car museum involved. I think the worst one was the Shelby Museum in Vegas as there was no option of leaving DH to it and doing something else instead.

I can see why people find Stonehenge disappointing - I too remember the days when you could clamber around on the stones.

RosesAndHellebores · 25/01/2026 15:02

The Vendee, closely followed by the bit of Devon around Torrington, particularly Westward Ho, not forgetting the Algarve.

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/01/2026 15:03

Gloucester. Just grim. Luckily I live near enough to get home in just over an hour
Oban. It's OK for a quick stop while we wait for the ferry to Mull, but we once got holed up there for 2 days while our car was fixed after a breakdown. We had "done " it in an afternoon.
