Iceland…very underwhelming unfortunately

The whole country was underwhelming? I can't understand this. If you didn't want to see amazing scenery and wildlife why did you go there?
This is a photo of a literally frozen waterfall. How can you be underwhelmed by this? What were you expecting??

For me, Pisa. I wanted to take DS to Italy for a long weekend and Pisa was cheap to get to. Turns out there's a reason for that. At least he was young enough to be pleased with several hours in a park and a big ice cream.

Both Oslo and Stockholm are really boring. Oslo in particular- though I’m not sure anyone says it’s interesting tbf. Stockholm is half a day at best - maybe in the summer a full day as you could go on a boat to one of the islands. But it’s grey, cold, and just the opposite of vibrant. I don’t rate it at all.

also didn’t love Florence as much as I’d hoped, but love Rome and Venice. Been to Milan several times and there’s not much to do really so best to get yourself on a train to Lake Como and then it’s much better.

yes to Canberra being boring - it’s like Milton Keynes. Soulless and very uninspiring architecture.

my fav place is New York - anyone who doesn’t like it will not be my friend - it’s where life happens! I adore it.

I liked Stockholm! Its unusual. Three days of a visit would do me though.

I wasn't impressed with New York. I saw violence on the subway on the first day that I was there, and the second day. It is pretty dangerous

Great thread, I’ve loved visiting so many suggestions on here and couldn’t imagine actually finding anywhere boring, frustrating maybe if you land at the wrong time, tired and hungry and no where is open but not boring. A couple of my favourite places in the world have been mentioned as boring.

THEN someone mentioned Bicester Village and yes that day was insanely boring.

My favourite cities are Stockholm and Berlin. I must be weird. 🤣

Berlin is gorgeous. It's not my 'favourite' city, but I can see how it might be someone's.

But I loved Rome!, never been to Berlin so can’t say, I didn’t enjoy Iceland…THAT IS OK…I’m ok with that. I loved lots of places…Paris, Rome, Vienna, Barbados, greek islands, Perth Australia, Edinburgh, London, Grenada, New York, Vermont…why would you assume I can’t find interest In other places JUST because I didn’t love Iceland?

Just struggling to see how you could look at volcanoes, glaciers, craters, lakes full of icebergs, geisers, whales, puffins, ponies, the Northern lights/midnight sun etc etc and think “this is the most boring place I have ever visited”. Obviously you’re entitled to that view but I’m equally entitled to find it baffling.

But you’ve switched from talking about it being boring to saying you didn’t enjoy it, which is a bit different.

Turkey

It was the men in Turkey that made it bad for me

Lol I meant a holiday destination. I would actually love to visit Centre Parcs but I only do holidays solo and I would look and feel very odd going to such a family orientated place alone!

Whilst I see your point, I have to say, as a member of a seasoned CP family, I do love it when I go with just my Mum for a spa day and tag a night's stay on. We love long, lazy lunches with cocktails and quiet late night laps of the lazy river when all of the kids have fecked off 😂

IMO, a stay at one of the new locations with hotels for a couple of friends would be a good option.

Yes. I'm not even a big nature person but Iceland is on my bucket list. Plus Reykjavik has a dildo museum! Something for everyone.

oldmanandtheangel · 25/01/2026 15:08

Malta I found exceptionally dull and I did travel all over.
Germany on a Sunday in the early 90s. (my only visit)

Berlin is gorgeous. It's not my 'favourite' city, but I can see how it might be someone's.

Of all the places that I've been to, I really disliked Berlin.

Looking back, I wonder is it to do with my own family history. Maybe that influenced my feelings.

My grandfather was locked up by the Nazis and nearly died. There are so many important Nazi sites in Berlin. Everywhere you walk, there are historical tours going to the site of Hitler's bunker etc.

I just had a horrible feeling in Berlin, like I wanted to get out

Luckyingame · 25/01/2026 15:09

Calabria.
Never more, if I lived for thousand years.

oldmanandtheangel · 25/01/2026 15:10

My ex says Boredom On The Water instead of Bourton.
I like it, especially the crystal shop, but there is very little there
Pretty but only a quick visit .
I was very bored with Moreton in the Marsh

Smiling2022 · 25/01/2026 15:10

Cornwall. Closely followed by Devon.

You found 2 whole counties boring?? You must be having a laugh 😆

Good lord why the pile on! Yes I saw the waterfalls…yes I was in the blue lagoon…yes I saw the geysers, it was all very much lovely albeit a bit “meh”(in my opinion) but on a whole it was my least favourite place I’ve been too, and I’ve spoken to lots of people who felt the same…it’s ok for me to think that.

oldmanandtheangel · 25/01/2026 15:11

Moreton - in - Marsh, rather. No 'the'. To be boringly pedantic.

Thundertoast · 25/01/2026 15:11

Rhyl.
Aberystwyth (unfortunately, would love Aber to be revitalised as its got such potential)

You know what, we all like different things so I do see why people wouldn't be into Rome, Tenerife, Lisbon etc, but to not find the Natural History Museum interesting... sorry gang, the idea of not getting excited over dinosaur bones or standing next to a stuffed bear to see how big they are, i just dont believe you sorry 😄 (lighthearted, I do get it!!)

HazelBite · 25/01/2026 15:11

Devon, it is beyond me why anyone would want to spend their holidays there.North Devon must be one of the most rainy places in this country.

I have to say, I know people that have been to Iceland and were underwhelmed.

A lot of them said that they couldn't enjoy it because it was so expensive.

Well for one, I didn’t see any Whales or puffins, nor did I see northern lights. I found Reykjavík very boring. And on a whole I didn’t enjoy it.

OMG I'm so sorry. That is completely understandable. I will say that I found the Holocaust memorial there absolute chilling and terrifying.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 25/01/2026 15:13

Switzerland. I lived there for a bit. Beautiful. But incredibly boring. Nicknamed Shitzerland by the ex pats who I knew living there.

Edited

It would have been very odd if you could see Wales from Iceland!
