Just that. Interested to see if anyone says what I'm thinking...

It would have been very odd if you could see Wales from Iceland!

I dictated that message and then corrected it…give over..

Eggybreadwithnuts · 25/01/2026 15:14

Would you mind elaborating? I am a Winter Woman and absolutely hate heat. I would choose Alaska, Canada, NYC in February etc etc. You'd think Iceland would be high on the list... but for some reason (nothing to do with expense) Iceland just doesn't grab me and I don't know why!

Yeah but it’s personal choice. I love Iceland. The scenery is amazing. Like being on different planet. I’m Canadian so happy with both cold and heat and many parts of Canada are stunning.

For me places that were ‘worse’ or didnt live up to the hype are Bruges, Stonehenge, a lot of Spain (don’t love the landscape), Belgium generally, Sorrento….

Places that were ‘better’ than I thought - Edinburgh, Utrecht , Azores, Venice, Rome, Luxor

Switzerland. I lived there for a bit. Beautiful. But incredibly boring. Nicknamed Shitzerland by the ex pats who I knew living there.

Ah I love Switzerland! I think that the people who live there are so lucky.

I work in an international language school in the U.K. The Switzerland students are always shocked at how much restrictions teenagers have in the U.K. In Switzerland they can drink legally from 16.

Not tight or wrong, but it definitely seems very relaxed and free in Switzerland

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 25/01/2026 15:17

Fuertaventura. Discovered there that I really like to go to places where there's lots of nice varied scenery and you can swim from the beaches. Not the place's fault so much as it wasn't the kind of holiday for me.

Chemenger · 25/01/2026 15:17

Stockholm has the Vasa museum, that alone stops it being boring (I know I said maritime museums were boring earlier but the Vasa is breathtaking).

Slightyamusedandsilly · 25/01/2026 15:18

I'd love it for a week's holiday @Samanthajane5 (summer, not winter, I'm not a cold weather type). Sunbathing by a lake. But no longer. Not enough to do.

NotMeAtAll · 25/01/2026 15:18

I have no interest in sun holidays, but I had to spend a few days in Mallorca at a holiday place and it was just -nothing. The island itself is great.

UnctuousUnicorns · 25/01/2026 15:19

Belgium. Holidayed there once, never again. Cynical, overpriced, and soulless. Once paid 40 Euros (in 2003) to get into a tourist attraction - not a problem in itself - but then they had the brass neck to also charge people to use the fucking toilets inside. A country you couldn't pay me to return to.

Is there a car museum in Stockholm?

Asking for a friend…

Samanthajane5 · 25/01/2026 15:20

Other boring places in my opinion.

Skopje, North Macedonia
Tirana, Albania

hollyivy123 · 25/01/2026 15:21

Kidderminster

Rhyl.
Aberystwyth (unfortunately, would love Aber to be revitalised as its got such potential)

You know what, we all like different things so I do see why people wouldn't be into Rome, Tenerife, Lisbon etc, but to not find the Natural History Museum interesting... sorry gang, the idea of not getting excited over dinosaur bones or standing next to a stuffed bear to see how big they are, i just dont believe you sorry 😄 (lighthearted, I do get it!!)

My husband jokes with our son that he’ll take him to Rhyl if he’s being a bit misbehaved!

justtheotheronemrswembley · 25/01/2026 15:22

Weston-super-Mare.

Paris in the pouring rain on a bank holiday when absolutely everything is shut has to be up there as well.

Tabitha005 · 25/01/2026 15:23

Dearg · 25/01/2026 13:53

Mull.

@Dearg yup, same! And I love the west of Scotland. The most exciting thing that happened to us on that part of our journey around the Mull peninsula was getting a flat tyre. Campbeltown was especially dull… a town at the end of its life.

Launceston. It was shut.

I've driven through it when it was open. You didn't miss much.

Why would immigrants remain in a country they don't like?

Kingsleadhat · 25/01/2026 15:27

Guernsey. Top attraction was the tomato museum

Why would immigrants remain in a country they don't like?

Because people complain everywhere they go. Any immigrants that I know that live in the U.K complain about the shit weather, and how expensive things are

Carnac in France, drove about an hour to get there and it’s literally just a field full of fairly small stones!

Really? My kids loved it (they were mad on Asterix at the time) And we thought it was really interesting. We did go to lots of other sites on the day too.
Now DH used to be a mad keen birder. The number of holidays based mainly around birding sites used to piss me off royally. So many days slogging around muddy rspb reserves shushing the kids or sat by a muddy field because he'd "just be two minutes"
The Pen museum in Birmingham. I collect on a small scale, fountain pens, so thought it woukd be good, but this is nibs-just metal nibs, the manufacture, marketing and history of nibs.

AliasGrape · 25/01/2026 15:29

I don’t think I’ve ever been bored on a holiday. I mean I’ve been bored at times, but found an entire destination/ country/ region etc boring? No.

I’ve even managed to have fun in Rhyl (for a couple of hours admittedly, not a fortnight).

I remember my mum jumping at the chance of a trip out literally anywhere as ‘well it’s a change of scenery at least’ and I think I’ve turned into her.
